Twin Moon - Chapter 264 - She Cooks Good

Whiskey.

“It was their ascension ceremony” Gunner’s mother said proudly and ran her fingers over the glass of the frame.
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she” she cooed softly and took the picture back to the wall. She turned around again and smiled widely,
“Just as you are” she said cheerfully. She went to grab my hand but pulled back at the last second.
“Sorry” she mumbled and forced a smile then walked off to a door on the left. She held it open and waved me through. Her Mate and the two other women were already in there, sitting on tall stools at a very large bench. Unsurprisingly, the kitchen was as decadent as the rest of the house. Gunner’s mother was quick on her feet, shuffling through the kitchen and whipping out plates and bowls of food. After a few silent moments, she ushered me over to a booth table in the corner and placed multiple plates of food in front of me. She watched me with anticipation as I stared at the mountains of food. How do I know this isn’t a trick, she could be trying to slip me drugs, or even poison. I frowned at the food, thinking up a way to get out of this. There was a tugging sensation in the back of my mind, telling me it was okay, screaming out for me to trust her.
“Help yourself dear” the woman smiled down at me. She stood waiting, as she wiped her hands on a floral apron Wait, when did she even put that on, she wasn’t wearing that a second ago. After another moment she went back to busying herself in the kitchen. I watched her for a moment, whilst she flittered around cleaning up the benches. Her Mate and the two other women each had a plate in front of them, filled with the same food I had. But they weren’t hesitating, they were eating away happily. I suppose this would be an odd way to kill someone. Killing me while I was unconscious would have been more practical. This whole situation is making my head spin. I looked down at the food, my mouth salivated and my nose breathed in the smells on its own. It does look really good, and I am fucking starving. I don’t even know when I ate last. Though it's not uncommon for me to forget to eat. I picked up a piece of tenderized steak and sniffed at it. Barbeque sauce, garlic, a hint of chili and a lot of smoke. I can’t pick out any unusual scents on the meat, maybe it is ok after all.
“You don’t like barbequed steak, girl?” Lupus’ voice bellowed through the kitchen. I looked up to see him and the three women all watching me.
“You’ll never taste better cooking than Roe’s” he said with a proud smile over at his Mate. Roe, got it, her name is Roe. I frowned at him and then back down at the meat. What the heck. I placed the corner of the steak into my mouth and tore off a decent sized chunk. The flavours exploded on my tongue as the meat's juices coated the inside of my mouth. I chewed fast, too fast to enjoy the flavours. I put more in my mouth and chewed, once again not slowly enough to savour it. Before I realized, I was shoving the whole thing in my mouth greedily while reaching for other bits of food. I went full animal, smashing the food against my face and hoping I got enough inside my mouth. Soft chuckling pulled me back and I turned to the four adults. Each of them was watching me wide-eyed, while Lupus and the small woman, whose name I have forgotten, were laughing quietly.
“Stop it” Roe hissed and slapped her Mate on the back of the head. I watched with anticipation, to see how he would retaliate for her hitting him. But he did nothing just chuckled more openly. Since when do werewolves not fight back when attacked?
“Told you she cooks good, ay?” Lupus smiled before putting more food in his own mouth. He wasn’t wrong, it was some of the best food that I have ever eaten. But I couldn’t move past the fact that he ignored the hit his Mate landed on his head. Why wouldn’t he retaliate. I watched them for a moment, Roe leaned over the counter and kissed Lupus, he then hand fed her some of the food from his plate. She took it out of his fingers with her teeth and winked at him. It was like she never hit him at all. How odd. Lunaya and the small woman were still watching me. Lunaya’s eyes searched my face for something. When she didn’t turn away, I growled.
“What?” I snarled at the woman. She furrowed her brows and slowly stood off the stool.
“Nae” the small woman called quietly and tried to pull her back down onto the stool. She shrugged her off and walked towards me. She stopped a few steps away and stared at me. She was trying to hide it, but I could see the internal battle going on behind her eyes, she is desperate to say something.
“Do you know who I am?” she asked sternly. What a stupid fucking question, why would I know that, also, why would I care? Despite seeing her with the man from my dreams in that weird ass unconscious sleep thingy, I have never seen her before. Perhaps this was an intimidation thing. Alphas often asked me if I knew who they were before I killed them. Like somehow knowing their identity would stop me from ending their pathetic lives. They always seemed shocked or even hurt that I would tell them no, or that it didn’t matter. It seems like status means a lot to these beasts. I looked over Lunaya’s face and I realised, she was dead serious, she isn’t being cocky or boasting, she is asking a genuine question.
“Lunaya, not now” Roe hissed before shooting me a forced smile.
“No, now. I waited last time and look how that turned out” she grunted back at Gunner’s mother. What did she wait for last time and what do they want her to wait for now.
“Nae, please, give her a minute” the small lady pleaded as she came to stand by her side.
“We don’t have the time, you know that. You all know that” she shouted behind her to where Roe and Lupus were still sitting. I am completely lost as to what is going on here. These beasts are fucking weird.
“Well? Aurora, Whiskey. Whatever the fuck you’re calling yourself” she snarled at me. I wiped my arm over my face and hissed, standing up to face the tall woman. I have said a hundred times now, my name is not Aurora and I am sick to fucking death of hearing it.
“You fucking mutts must be daft as all hell” I snarled, throwing my eyes back to the very concerned looking small woman behind Lunaya,
“For the last time, my name is Whiskey” I shouted and slammed my fist down onto the table. Roe ran around from behind the counter and stood in front of Lunaya.
“She knows that darling, she is just being rude” Roe scolded while glaring at Lunaya over her shoulder.
“Lunaya, I understand your urgency, but she is not ready, clearly” Roe said quietly while facing away from me. It was a bold move for her to turn her back to me. I don’t know the bitch well enough to garner if it was a show of trust, or just disrespect. I will need to find out. Or perhaps she was trying to speak to Lunaya so that I wouldn’t hear her. Maybe she isn’t aware I still can hear her, my senses are strong and powerful, more so than any regular wolf. I know that she is talking about me, but why, what is it that they think I'm not ready for.
