The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 59 - A Monster
Zelena.
I blinked my eyes open and looked about the room, I was back at the pack house in mine and Gunner’s bedroom. I sat up on the bed, where was Gunner. I swung my legs over the side of the bed just as the door opened.
“Oh, Zee you’re awake” Gunner rushed over and kneeling in front of me, he buried his face into my stomach and wrapped his arms around my waist. I brushed my fingers through his hair and little shots of electricity ran up my arms.
“How long have I been out?” I asked,
“Coming on five hours now, Artemis said you wore yourself out” he replied looking up to my face. I grabbed his cheeks and kissed his forehead. I looked into his worried silver eyes and he stared at me with his usual adoring look, but something had changed. Deep in his eyes he was trying to hide something. I pulled him back to my stomach and rested my head on top of his. A flash of memory came back to me and I saw Hanks deformed and broken body laying only the floor before me. I gasped at the memory. How could I do that, how could I let myself get so angry that I would not only kill someone but do it so violently. I started to pant rapidly, my chest tightened, I couldn’t breathe. Tears fell uncontrollably from my eyes and a sweat appeared on my brow. Gunner looked up to me and swiftly picked me up in his arms and cradled me in his lap.
“Shh it’s okay, you’re okay. It's over now little wolf” he said trying to calm me down. He stroked my hair and rubbed his finger up and down my arm.
“I-I-I killed him” I sobbed hard into Gunner’s chest. I’m not at all sorry for the death of that monster, he deserved it no question. But this dark side that managed to take hold of me and cause me to lash out and do something so savagely violent, it was terrifying.
“It’s okay my love, it’s over now” Gunner soothed. He rocked me in his arms as I continued to sob and shiver. I can’t get the image out of my mind. I'm a monster, just like he said I was.
“I’m a monster” I wailed.
“No, baby, a monster would not feel remorse. You are anything but. Even after all that you heard and everything he did to you, you still feel guilt for giving him his just dessert. That is not a monster, that is a Goddess. You little wolf are a Goddess” he spoke with such confidence and conviction it was hard not to trust his words. I slowly started to calm down and after a while my breathing normalised.
“Did I hurt you?” I asked softly,
“When I pushed you back?”
“No, my love, I wasn’t hurt. It just felt like I was pushing against a wall.”
“Okay good”
“It was a surprise though. You had so much control and so much power. How did you learn to do all that after just a couple of hours?” his voice hitched a little, he was trying to stay cool, but I could tell he was impressed if not shocked by what he saw.
“Artemis is a good teacher”
“Ha! No shit” he laughed, his warm chest bouncing under me.
“Well, he demanded that I give you a full feast to get your strength back, so let's go stuff your face” Gunner lifted me off his lap and stood up off the bed. He took my hand and went to pull me out the door but I pulled him back to me, wrapping my arms around his waist for another hug.
“Thank you” I whispered,
“For what?”
“For not running away from me, for not being afraid”.
Gunner sighed and picked me up into his arms, I wrapped my legs around his waist and held his shoulders. He cupped his hand on my cheek and smiled at me.
“I’m not going anywhere” he pulled my face to his and pressed his lips to mine ever so gently. I felt a slight pang of heat in my stomach, my heat was still not over. But right on cue to kill our moment my stomach screamed at us. He chuckled and put me down again.
“Come on” as we got to the top of the stairs he stopped and faced me.
“If they act weird around you please don’t take it personally” he said cautiously.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, Dad and Cole and Spartan, they were there, they saw you using your powers”
“They’re afraid of me now?” I said lowering my head. Of course I would do something to ruin this good thing I have here. I guess I knew it couldn’t last forever, I suppose I'll be kicked out now. Gunner put his hand under my chin and lifted my head again,
“No, no, no, the opposite. They all feel a lot more protective of you now. They were in awe you actually”
“Wait seriously?”
“Seriously”
“Even Cole?”
“I don’t know why you think he doesn’t like you, he just isn’t as open as everyone else”
“He never even speaks to me”
“Well I have a feeling that may change” he said with a smirk,
I huffed and started stomping down the stairs. Gunner came up behind me and grabbed me around the waist and ran me down the rest of the stairs. He started tickling my sides make me laugh and squirm in his arms.
“Don't stomp away from me missy” he laughed pressing his fingers into my ribs.
“Stop you’ll make me pee” I screamed with a giggle, fighting against his strong arms. He started to nibble and lick my neck and earlobe and I squealed with joy.
“Say you’re sorry” he chuckled into my hair,
“Never” I giggled trying to free myself from his hold. He pressed his fingers into my ribs again and I yelled,
“Okay, I give, I give. I'm sorry” I squealed, now panting. He slowly put me down and turned me around to face him. His smile covered his whole face, reaching up to his eyes. He looks so young and carefree when he smiles like that. He stepped forward and cupped my cheeks. As he bent down to kiss my lips, I stuck out my tongue and licked him from his chin up to his forehead. I laughed and ran for the kitchen door,
“Oh no you didn’t” he chuckled chasing after me.
