Twin Moon - Chapter 208 - Undeniable Bonds
Zelena.
I don’t want to make things worse than I already have.
“Come on” Roe insisted. I shuffled forward and slowly sat down on the end of the bed. After a few awkward seconds of silence, Roe finally spoke.
“You know, I wasn’t born into the Tri-Moon pack” she said with a faraway tone,
“You weren’t?” Nat snapped,
“No. Lupus found me at an allied pack when he was on a diplomatic visit” Roe began to explain,
“You’re my Mum! How did I not know this?” Nat asked, interrupting her. I could tell she was surprised, annoyed even. That is a weird thing for her to not know. I wonder if Gunner knows.
“Because it’s not something we share openly” Roe answered her,
“Why?” I asked,
“Our meeting was somewhat complicated” Roe answered,
“I didn’t know that” Nat said sadly,
“It’s not something either of us are very proud of”
“What happened?” I asked,
“Well, Lupus had just become the Alpha of Tri-Moon and was out visiting with the Alpha’s of the aligned packs. The moment we saw each other, something changed in the both of us. We aren’t True Mates of course, but it sure felt that way at the time” Roe said as she recited her memories fondly.
“I was still quite young, and I thought my life’s plan was already set. Boy was I wrong” Roe chuckled and grabbed Nat’s hand and held it in her lap.
“I already had a Mate when I met your father”
“You did?” Nat screeched,
“I did. In fact, I was Mated to the Alpha of the pack I was born in”
“Mum! How could you never tell me this?” Nat yelled and jumped up from the bed.
“First of all, don’t you raise your voice at me. Secondly, like I said, it wasn’t something I was proud of, and not really something you needed to hear until now”
“You cheated on your Mate” Nat scoffed angrily. That was enough to get Roe fired up. She stood from the bed and stood in front of Nat.
“Watch who you’re talking to girl, I am still your mother” Roe scolded,
“Sorry Mum” Nat whispered sheepishly. Roe pulled Nat into her arms and held her for a hug.
“No. I did not cheat on my first Mate. But I did break his heart” she said softly. The mother and daughter held each other for a minute before letting go.
“I want to tell you this story, I think it could help you with your current predicament. But no more screaming, understood?” Roe asked while looking over Nat’s face. Nat sniffed and nodded, then they both sat back down on the bed.
“I loved my first Mate. He was handsome, charming, kind and he made me feel like the most important person in his world. But I always thought there was something missing. That thought only became reality when I met your father. There was this pull, this animalistic urge to be near him. It was unlike anything I had ever felt before. That was what I was missing with Ambrose” Roe paused and smiled at me, she reached out her arm and motioned for me to move closer. I shuffled along the bed until I was sitting right beside her. She then lifted her arm over my shoulder and held me to her, then pulled Nat’s hand onto her lap with her other hand.
“I was so torn up with all my contradicting emotions. Plus, I didn’t think that I had a choice. I was Mated to the Alpha, I thought that if I ended our Mateship in favour of an Alpha from an allied pack, I would start a war. But your father was persistent. He would find or create ways for us to be alone together, even if it was just for a few seconds. And with each moment that we spent together, even in the presence of my former Mate, our attraction towards each other grew exponentially. In the end I realised I no longer had a choice. My heart belonged wholly to Lupus and if I stayed with Ambrose, I would have been miserable, which in turn would have made him miserable. I couldn’t do that to him, I loved him too much to make him suffer like that. I went to my mother for help. She was upset of course, but not at the fact that I wanted another, she was upset because she knew I was going to leave my birth pack. In her eyes, there was no choice. Destiny chose my Mate, chose Lupus, and there was no going against destiny. Together, my mother and me, we sat down with Ambrose, and I told him everything. It was hard to hurt him so much, and I did hurt him. He was furious, he even wanted to kill your father. But somewhere along the way, I don’t know when or how, he came around. He wished me well and he let me go. It worked out for the best. He met the she-wolf of his dreams and together they made the most wonderful family and ran the pack together. To this day our packs are still allies”. Roe sat quietly as both Nat and I digested her story. It was a true Romeo and Juliet fairy tale. I always knew the love they shared was more than anything else I have witnessed. Their history just proves it true. They are truly destined.
“What pack did you come from?” I asked her,
“I was born in a little pack called Lua Chei” she answered me fondly,
“Oh, they were here for the party, weren’t they?” I asked her. The name sounded familiar, I think I may have seen the Alpha at the party. I knew of the Alpha-daughter, Analah. She went back to New Zealand, to Luna Eclipse, when the Alpha Hina left.
“Yes, Ambrose was here with one of his sons” she said with a nod,
“I met the Alpha’s daughter, she came here with Lunaya”
“She did, yes” Roe smiled.
“Mum?” Nat said softly,
“Yes darling?” Roe answered and turned to face her,
“Why now, why are you telling me this now?” Nat asked. Roe placed her hand on Nat’s cheek and sighed,
“I think you know the answer to that question already sweetheart” she cooed softly. Nat stared at her mother for a moment, then she burst out into tears and threw herself into Roe’s arms.
“I don’t know what to do” Nat sobbed. She pressed her face into her mum's shoulder and squeezed her arms tightly around her back. The fear and sadness coming off her was choking me. Nat cried and cried, muttering about Smith and Lace and how confused she was. All I could do was sit quietly and watch. After a few minutes Nat had calmed down enough to start making a bit more sense.
“You feel something for Alpha Lace?” Roe asked her gently,
“I don’t want to, I love Smith” she blurted out,
“I know honey, but you love the Alpha too, don’t you?”
“I think I do. Everything about him is addictive. I crave him, his presence, his scent, his touch. I go to sleep thinking about him, I dream of him, and then I wake up thinking about him again. How could I do this to Smith, he has been so good to me” Nat sobbed and started to cry again.
“Nat, you told me once that Smith wasn’t your forever Mate. Maybe you were right, maybe you have found you forever Mate now?” I said softly as I ran my hand over her arm.
“But Smith” Nat choked,
“Smith is a big boy, he’ll be okay” I said encouragingly,
“You think so?”
“I do. And it’s like your mum said, there’s no going against destiny”
“That’s easy for you to say. The first Were you ever met was your True Mate. You haven’t had to deal with something like this” Nat scoffed,
“Natalia!” Roe yelled angrily,
“No, it’s okay” I said and waved off Roe’s anger,
“She’s right, I got lucky when it comes to Gunner. But I do know a little about making hard choices, and a little more about destiny and following the plan it sets out. Nat, I love you. You are the sister that I never had, and my first ever girlfriend. As much as I hate the thought of you leaving, I hate the thought of you throwing away a bond like the one your mum and dad share more. If Alpha Lace is what you really want, then you should follow your heart. Smith will be okay, he’ll understand. You can’t give this up just to spare some hurt feelings”. Both Nat and Roe watched me as I spoke. Roe nodded along, and more tears fell from Nat’s eyes. She wiped her face and turned to look at her mum when I finished. Roe lifted her hands and smiled,
“Don’t look at me, she said it better than I could have” she chuckled and nodded at me,
“You think I should be with Lace?” she asked,
“I really do” I answered confidently,
“Me too” Roe chimed in. Nat dropped her head and played with the hem of her shirt. After a few seconds, she lifted her head and sighed.
“I better go find Smith then” she said sadly,
“I think that’s for the best” Roe said encouragingly as she stood up. She kissed my forehead again and gently patted Nat’s cheek,
“Now, excuse me, I have a roast in the oven” she cooed and strode out of the bedroom. I shifted over to Nat and placed my hand over hers.
“You really think I should do this? Leave Smith, my home, my family?” she asked as she stared into my eyes anxiously,
“I think you should get to feel the kind of love that makes the ground beneath you shake. I also think that that kind of love doesn’t exist between you and Smith. But Alpha Lace. He is your Earth-shaking love”. Nat twisted her fingers through mine and lifted my hand to her cheek,
“I’m sorry I said those awful things to you. You know that I love you too, right?”
“I know Nat, and it’s okay. Now will you go claim your Mate please” I chuckled and tugged on her ear. She smiled warmly before pulling me into her arms for a tight hug.
“I love you sis” she said softly into my ear,
“I love you too”.
