Mother of the Moon - Chapter 188 - Conversations
Lunaya.
“You’re not?” Zelena asked, sitting up straight. Clearly Alyse had piqued her interest.
“Nope”
“So what pack are you from then?”
“We don’t have a pack. We are Omega’s”
“You are?” Zelena asked, her voice raising an octave,
“Yes Zelena” Alyse giggled. Zelena thought for a moment, lowering her eyes to the table. She looked back up at Alyse and tilted her head to the side,
“Gunner told me about Omega’s. They don’t have a pack or an Alpha. So, where do you live then?” she asked slowly,
“We are roamers, we don’t have a home in one place” Alyse answered with a curt nod.
“But then what do you do? Like, where do you sleep and all that?”
“Roamers, roam. We visit packs all over the world, and with their permission, we stay on their territory for a little while. Or we camp in the wilderness. Sometimes, not often, we seek out empty or abandoned houses” Alyse explained. I like that she is so comfortable talking with Zelena about this. I like that Zelena seems so interested in our lifestyle.
“Don’t you get sad or lonely, not having a home?” Zelena questioned as she leaned back into Gunner’s embrace,
“Roaming isn’t for everyone. It can get tiresome, and it can be sad sometimes, not having a place to call home. But I am never lonely, not with Nae at my side” Alyse smiled up at me and squeezed my thigh again. I gazed at her beautiful green eyes and ran my finger down the tip of her nose.
“Aww, you’re Mates” Zelena said with awe as she smiled at us adoringly.
“We are” I answered, while keeping my eyes on Alyse. I looked back to Zelena, who had her eyes closed and her head leaning back on Gunner’s shoulder. Gunner held his arm around her waist with his hand spread across her stomach. The other one twirled a tendril of her hair around his finger. It filled my heart with love that they were okay again. After his crazy stint and attacking her, it seems like it is all in the past now. But this darkness inside Gunner will have to be eliminated. I will help him do it. I was trained for it.
“Did you eat enough?” Gunner whispered into Zelena’s ear. I don’t think he meant for us to hear, and I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Zelena placed her hand over his on her stomach and nodded. The way in which they both held their hands there, so gently and so protectively. It had me sitting up straighter in my seat. I snapped my eyes to their hands, then to Gunner, then Zelena, and back to their hands. Zelena scoffed down that steak like it was the greatest thing on Earth. She had an animalistic, wildness to her when she ate. I know that feeling, I experienced something just like many years ago. Gunner attacked her out of the blue, he had been acting overly possessive and protective, according to his family. I remember someone else once acting like that with me. Alyse sat forward and squeezed my thigh. I turned to her, and she had a knowing look on her face, she had already put the pieces together. I turned to Zelena and deadpanned,
“You’re pregnant” I blurted out. Zelena choked and sat up straight. Her wide eyes finding mine immediately.
“Excuse me?” she squeaked. Gunner snaked his arm further around her waist and pulled her into him closer. A protective and possessive motion. Something I remember all too well with Micha. His protective instincts increased tenfold. He was a warrior, so he was already very protective. But the second he could sense his pup, he wouldn’t let anyone get close to me without a warning growl. Gunner’s an Alpha, so his instincts would be higher still.
“I said you’re pregnant. Am I correct?” I asked her. My heart was thundering inside my chest, I was worried they would be able to see it beating against my chest cavity, or even hear the heavy drumming. Zelena was silent, while Gunner peered at me over Zelena’s shoulder. He had his mouth and nose pressed into the back of her neck.
“I uh... I'm...” she stuttered, while her eyes flicked back and forth between mine and Alyse’s anxious gazes. Zelena turned her head to look at Gunner. She didn’t ask him out loud, and it didn’t appear like they were flashing, the question was held in her stare. Gunner closed his eyes and very slowly nodded his head once, giving his permission for Zelena to continue. Zelena turned back to Alyse and I and shrugged her shoulders.
“I am, yes” she said softly. My smile split my face in two. I'm going to be a grandma! I had to dig my fingers into the cushion of the booth seat, just to stop myself from jumping up and embracing her in an all-consuming hug. I can’t believe I'm going to be a grandma! I couldn’t move, because I didn’t trust my body. I couldn’t talk, because I didn’t trust my voice. All I could do was stare at my child with my ridiculously huge smile.
“Congratulations Alpha, Luna. We are so unbelievably overjoyed for you both” Alyse said, her voice thick with emotion.
“Thank you” Zelena breathed out and melted back into Gunner’s chest.
“How far along are you, do you know?” Alyse asked,
“Uh not sure, I haven't seen a doctor yet. But I'd guess a couple of weeks” Zelena answered. Then her eyes went wide and she grasped her stomach.
“Gunner” she whispered as her head snapped around to look at him,
“I need to see a doctor. Galterio, he tried to hurt him, we need to make sure that he’s okay” she rushed out. The panic in her voice was evident, as was it clear from the way her small body began to shake. My lips curled back into a snarl, and I could feel a growl starting to bubble in the pit of my stomach. That bastard tried to kill her pup, my grandpup. He is lucky that he’s dead, because I want to resurrect him just so that I can murder him myself. My anger was on a steadily increasing burn. Alyse squeezed my thigh and pressed her lips to the side of my face and flashed me,
***Calm down, love. He's dead now***
***I want to hurt him, really fucking hurt him***
***Well, you can’t, he’s already gone. Let go of the rage, she needs love right now, not anger***
Gunner cupped Zelena’s cheek and pulled her head to meet his lips. He kissed the tip of her nose and pressed his forehead to hers.
“The pup is fine, you still have your cravings, and your healing ability is still diminished. None of that would have been happening if he succeeded” Gunner told her in a soft soothing tone. The love her showed her was beautiful. In that moment it made me miss Micha. I have Alyse, and I'm grateful and appreciative of her. But my pregnancy and those experiences were shared with Micha, and I would give anything for him to be here to meet his grandpup.
