The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 75 - Family reunion
Zelena.
After cutting the power to the pack house at the switch box, the village was now dark. A small glow from the direction of the driveway, told me that the loud bang I heard a few minutes ago was an explosion. I stood in the clearing that Gunner had marked out for me. Tobias stood next to me in his wolf form. Four of his fighters were surrounding us, also in their wolf form. I feel like I should change as well, but I haven’t used my power as a wolf yet. I don’t even know if I can. My best bet is to stay as human.
A startled yelp escaped my lips when gunfire rang out around us. Shit, here we go. Tobias nudged his head against my shoulder.
***I got you little one***
I looked up at him wide eyed. He flashed me, how did he flash me.
***We can flash?***
***I assumed as much, being your guardian and all that, we have to be able to communicate***
***Oh, yeh of course***
More gunfire began to echo through the trees and I whipped around and stared off into the forest.
***Stay calm Goddess.***
***I am calm***
***I can smell you Zelena***
***Shut up, I said I’m calm***
***Okay, you’re calm***
I most definitely was not calm. I was on the verge of a full blown panic attack. There was so much shooting and it was coming from all directions. Oh god, what if Gunner gets hurt. My head was whipping around in all directions, following the sound of screams and gunfire. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I need to chill out a bit. I won’t do anyone any good if I end up a nervous wreck laying in the dirt. I sucked in a breath, held it for minute then blew it out. A warm calmness slowly spread through my blood. Ah that’s better. I felt a vibration in my hand and I snapped my eyes open. Tobias had lowered his head and my fingers were now twisting through his fur, he was purring softly.
***Feel better?***
I frowned at him but didn’t pull away, because I was indeed feeling better.
***How do you do that?***
***Do what?***
***Make me feel calm and safe***
***It’s my job now, as guardian***
***Yes, but how?***
***I don’t know little one, we just have a bond now. Not quite like the bond you have with your Mate, but not completely different either***
***We’re Mates too?***
***No, no, no. Not Mates, just bonded.***
***Uh okay, I guess***
A growl from one of the fighters pulled my attention. Tobias stood up straight and repositioned himself around me, he was growly viciously and looking off to the trees. The other fighters started growling too. I followed his line of sight and gazed at the tree line. The more I focussed the more I could see. Humans slowly started emerging from the tree line and started to spread out. A bark from the fighter behind us had me turn around, more hunters were behind us now too. We were slowly being surrounded. How did they even get passed the wolves at the borders?
“You must be Zelena” a voiced called from the other direction, I spun around again and my eyes landed on a man standing a step in front of the others.
“My how you have grown” he sneered. He wore black combat pants and a long sleeve black shirt with what looked like a utility vest, or maybe a bullet proof vest, over the top. His feet were apart and his hands were on his hips. They were still far away from us, but close enough for me to make out the devilish smile he wore under his smug bearded face. Tobias pressed his body against me, his growl echoed through the clearing.
“How do you know my name?” I called out to him. He chuckled and the sound felt so familiar to me. It sent a cold shiver up my spine.
“Well, I guess I’m your Uncle Trevor” he said sarcastically. Wait, my what now?
“Tell me mutt, where is my dear little brother?”
His brother? Am I meant to know who the fuck he is talking about? Who is this idiot anyway? The man shifted in his position a little and the moonlight hit his face. I know that face, well at least someone that had a very similar face. Oh shit, I almost burst out laughing. The dots all connected in my mind, Uncle Trevor, his little brother. I laughed out loud and it must have caught him off guard. he dropped his arms to the side of his body and tilted his head slightly.
“You mean Hank?” I chuckled. He didn’t respond, just stared at me.
“Sorry Uncle Trevor, Daddy can’t come out to play” I laughed again. Why the fuck am I laughing right now? I mean it’s a little funny that he thinks Hank is still alive, but this is not the time to be cracking jokes and laughing. Especially at a man who has me surrounded with big ass guns pointed at my head.
“Bring. Me. My. Brother” Trevor snarled from across the clearing. I stopped laughing instantly and glared at the man.
“Don’t worry, you’ll see him soon” I taunted. He seemed to have caught on at that point. He walked a few steps closer and I could now see his tightly balled fists. The other hunters followed his lead and closed in on us too. Tobias had his teeth bared and hackles raised, he was itching to attack.
“He’s dead” he said firmly, not asking me, just confirming the realisation out loud.
“He got what he deserved” I spat, disgusted at the thought that anyone could love Hank. The all so familiar warmth began to spread through my body as my rage increased.
“You’ll pay for that, dog” he snarled. Pure hatred was wrapped around his words. A smile pulled at my lips at the sound of his threat.
“We’ll see” I said confidently. The fire in my stomach was ready to be released. I was ready to unleash a world of pain on them.
Trevor waved his hand to his shoulder and the hunters fired at as from all directions. Small canisters landed on the ground close to our feet, purple gas seeped from the cans with a hiss. One of them landed between the legs of one of the fighters. He snarled and wheezed and fell to the ground, changing back to his human form. Tobias growled and stepped towards him, but I quickly lifted my hands, pulling up my force field. Tobias was behind the wall with me, but the other fighters began to attack at the sight of their fallen pack mate. They had moved out of the way before they too were entrapped inside my safety barrier.
One by one the fighters were engulfed in the smoke before they too fell to the ground, back in their human form. I watched on helplessly as the hunters pulled the half-conscious men from the ground and dragged them to a kneeling position in front of me. A small white spark lit up on the wall of the force field. I hadn’t noticed that Trevor had come close enough to touch the shield wall. He encircled Tobias and I, running his hand along the invisible wall. His mouth was moving, like he was talking, but I couldn’t hear a word from him. Weird. I looked around at Tobias and he was watching Trevor closely.
***Can you hear him?***
***Barely***
***I can’t hear a thing***
***It must be this wall thing you put up***
I felt a jolt of electricity and snapped my head back to Trevor. He was banging his fist against my force field. What an idiot, how weak does he think I am? If Gunner can’t get through it, then this dumb hunter stands no chance. I smirked at the man and his face reddened with anger. He took out a handgun from his belt and pointed it at me. Tobias growled and stepped in front of me. I flinched as he fired the weapon. I felt another burst of electricity, but that was all. The bullet didn’t penetrate the barrier. I let out a laugh and looked at Trevor. I could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.
***It’s bullet proof***
***You didn’t know this before?***
Tobias snapped his head around to me and glared at me with his piercing black eyes.
***I haven’t exactly had time to test all my powers***
He huffed and turned back to Trevor.
***Oh Goddess***
Trevor glared at me as he stepped back away from us, I could see the veins in his forehead ready to pop. He gave a crooked smirk and waved his hand to his shoulder again. The wall lit up in little white lights. I could hear a muffled hum sound as my skin was crawling with sparks. I looked around and realised the hunters had unleashed their full fire power on my force field. Not a single bullet broke through, it was impenetrable. I locked my eyes back on Trevor and watched as he slowly stalked along behind his men, stopping in front of the kneeling fighters. Oh god the fighters, they weren’t shielded.
The four men sat on their knees, completely naked I might add, each with a hunter pressing a knife to their throats. I growled at the sight, my lips curling back over my teeth. Trevor smirked and his mouthed moved, saying something that I still couldn’t hear. The lights on the shield and the electric shocks on my skin stopped. Trevor's mouth began to move again, how has this dickhead still not realised that I can’t hear him. I let out a frustrated breath and tilted my head at him.
***Tobias will you ask one of your men to tell this idiot that we can’t hear him***
Trevor’s head spun around to look at the fighter on the far right, he stomped towards him and collided the back of his hand across the fighter's face. Tobias and I both growled angrily.
***Max said he wants us to put it down***
I glared at Trevor and shook my head, over mouthing the word ‘No’ to him. He smirked and spoke over his shoulder to one of the hunters. That hunter grabbed the fighter Max by his hair and lifted his head up. He pressed the knife hard against Max’s throat, a small trail of blood trickled down his neck. My anger boiled over and I felt a wave of energy flow out of me. I flung my arm out towards the hunter holding Max, sending him flying backwards across the clearing. Trevor watch the hunter hit the ground and turned back to glower at me. He tried to hide the fear from his face, but his eyes gave it away. He waved his hand and the gunfire rained down on the force field once again.
I am going to rip this piece of shit hunter to pieces.
