Twin Moon - Chapter 296 - The Dragon
Whiskey.
I swung my arm towards Zelena, letting fly the spear of black ice. It got her in the upper right side of her chest, sending her flying back to the ground. A proud smile filled my face as another weapon materialized in my grip. I was about to hit her again when I was sent flying back through the air. I dropped the shard of ice and used my own power to cushion the landing. Gunner was poised and ready to attack. Zelena was still laying on the ground, I knew she was going to be easy to be rid of, just one hit and she was out.
I pulled on that dark feeling inside me, tugging on the string of power that was in me now. Another icy shard appeared in my hand, and I hurled it toward Gunner. He dodged to the side, missing the spear, and then charged toward me. I didn’t even need to think about it now, the weapons just came to my hands as I thought of them. I leaned on my back foot and steadied my feet, then I hurled dagger after dagger at Gunner. One hit his shoulder, but it didn’t slow his charge. Just three steps from reaching me he dropped his shoulder and poised to shoulder barge right into me. I summoned the air and pushed myself off the ground and over his head. I landed and swirled to watch Gunner slide along the dirt, trying to stop himself before hitting the side of a cabin. As he turned to face me, his teeth bared, and his face screwed up with anger, I saw where two daggers had hit. One on his shoulder and the other on his forearm. The area had black blood seeping from the wounds and black spider veins slowly spreading under his skin. Isn't this a nice surprise, it would seem that the black magic works like a poison.
Gunner came for me again, slower this time, his heavy feet stomped as he marched my way. He raised his arms with his hands clenched into fists, and stopped just in front of me. Hand to hand it is then. I matched his stance and smirked, ready and set for him to throw the first blow.
“It doesn’t have to be this way” Gunner hissed through his clenched teeth.
“So everyone keeps telling me” I answered with a giggle.
“Please, Whiskey, don’t do this” he pleaded dejectedly. His face dropped and his big beautiful blue eyes begged me. For just a second my fists unclenched, just slightly, but enough for the hesitation to sweep through me. I swallowed hard, my mouth suddenly felt awfully dry. My heartbeat thumped hard, so hard I could hear it. Could he be right, could Gunner still be my reason to quit my mission? As I watched him, reading him, waiting for a sign of some sort, I caught the movement of his eyes. He looked at something behind me and his face instantly hardened. I snapped my gaze quickly over my shoulder to find what he saw. There she was, fucking Zelena. Of course, I will never be able to compete against her for his attention. The way he looks at her, the way he gravitates toward her. She is his everything, I am now, and always will be, nothing to Gunner.
I squared my shoulders and re-clenched my fists. The snarl on my face was for me, my own disgust. How could I be so naïve, so stupid, to even entertain the idea. My lips curled back and a rumbling growl bubbled up from my chest.
“Let’s do this” I snapped as I leaped forward, colliding my fist with the corner of Gunner’s chin. He stumbled back from the blow but quickly recovered. We traded punches as the both of us moved about the clearing. I imagine it would have looked like a well choreographed dance. I must admit, Gunner was well trained. He’s big and a little clumsy, and he could not match my speed, but he has power behind his hits. He is not at my level of combat, but he still managed to land a few good hits.
Gunner was leading in for an uppercut, I ducked in the last second and drove an ice dagger into his abdomen. He grunted and stumbled back, quickly pulling the shard from his body before it evaporated into smoke. I pushed off the ground and flew through the air, coming to land with my fist on his eye socket. I recovered with a jab to his ribs and another hit to his nose. Then, he was down. Gunner tried to stand again, but he was weak and disoriented. Now is my chance.
I walked over and stood above Gunner’s failing body as he knelt before me. I was ready to land the final blow while he glared up at me. He was panting hard with his hand grasping at the fresh wound in his side. Blood was dripping down his chin and his eye was already looking red and angry. He held so much hatred in that glare. It poked at my cold heart, trying to make me feel something. But all I felt was contempt. I hate him. I really do. Just as much as I hate Zelena. This was personal now. Maybe it always was, and I just didn’t know it until now. It had always just been about the mission, I don’t know when that changed. Gone were the thoughts of desire and envy, the idea of wanting him. I want nothing from this beast, nothing but his death. I lifted my arms, holding the sword shaped icicle in both hands. A sneer fell across my face as I snarled down at the so-called mighty Alpha. There is no other on my level. I am more than any other beast could ever hope to be. There is a reason that I am undefeated. There's a reason that no one has ever been able to come face to face with me a walk away. It's because I am the ultimate killing machine, I am the apex predator. Once I have finished here, with this pathetic dog, I won't stop until the entire Were species has been wiped from this earth.
The sky slowly lit up all around us, pulling me from my delicious dreams of grandeur. A bright blue light came from around a cabin, half blinding me as it did. I shielded my eyes with my arm and hissed as the light approached. As it got closer, I could start to pick up on the makings of a shape. A long winding tail whipping around behind it, a strong and outstretched neck, razor sharp teeth inside a large open mouth, and above that two glowing crystal blue eyes. Two large and intimidating wings spread out across the sky, lighting it up in a bright blue glow. It was a fucking dragon.
The glowing light dimmed, just enough for me to find a small human frame within the dragon's glow. It was Zelena. The dragon was with Zelena. How could this be possible?
