The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 65 - It's time to go
Gunner.
Mumbled and hushed voices grew louder as I spoke until I was near on yelling the last few words. I lifted my hands trying to get them to settle down again.
“Please, quiet down. Please let me finish” I called over the crowd.
“Zelena has the mark of the Goddess, yes, but she also wields her powers. She is, without a doubt, the Triple Goddess”.
The crowd was silent, so silent that you could hear an ant fart in the forest. Zelena stepped forward a little and grabbed my hand, squeezing it tight. I could feel her nervousness. The pack then burst out in inaudible cries and calls, I could only make out a few of their words.
“Bullshit”
“Impossible”
“Prove it”
I turned to look at Zee, her face was pale and she was biting her lip. Her eyes were full of worry and panic.
“Zelena, my love, will you come forward and show your pack the mark of the Goddess?”
She hesitated at my request but slowly stepped forward in front of me. At the sight of her coming forward, the crowd became quiet again. Zelena turned her back to the pack and lifted the hair off her neck, exposing her Goddess mark. After a minute she let her hair fall back down and turned to face them.
“I know this is a lot to take in, believe me, I struggled with the revelation myself” Zelena’s voice carried like Christmas bells around the village. The entire pack was enchanted by her. Listening intently to every word.
“I understand your scepticism, I truly do. So, if you require further proof, please just watch” she quickly glanced at me and winked with a smirk. She slowly lifted both her hands into the air and stretched them out in front of her. From between each of the pack members, small rocks floated into the air above their heads. The pack remained silent, their eyes all following the rocks. Zelena spun her arms around and the rocks mimicked her action. They twirled and flew through the air in a circular motion. While standing close behind her as she used her gifts, I could feel the raw power dripping off her. There was a subtle glow to her skin and serene softness to her aura. So completely different to her persona in the cabin, still angelic, but also gentle.
Zelena flexed her fingers as she spun her arms, before slowly bringing them to a halt. She calmly lowered her arms and the rocks followed suit until they hung in the air, just above the heads of the pack.
“Please, take them” she called out. Different hands begun to reach up and plucked the little rocks from the air. Amazed and surprised voices were heard as they each examined their rocks. Zelena brought one over to me and it hung in front of my face. I took it from the air and turned it over in my hands. It was now a perfectly smooth marble shape.
“Wow” I exclaimed, looking back at my mate.
“Goddess” a woman’s voice called. And then another and another. Soon the whole pack were on their knees calling to Zelena, calling out to their new Goddess. I stepped forward and wrapped my arms around her waist, burying my nose into the crook of her neck. I couldn’t be more proud of her.
“They love you” I whispered. She placed her hand on the back of my head and turned to offer me a soft kiss.
“Yes, now they do, but will they still love me after we tell them of the danger that I have brought on them?” she asked softly.
“Of course they will” I assured her, kissing her once more before standing up straight and facing the pack.
“Please quiet down” I called out waving my arms.
“Please, quiet, there is one last thing” I called a little louder. Zelena raised just a single hand and the pack was silent. I looked at her with a raised eyebrow and she shrugged her shoulders. She already had more control over the pack then I did. Clever little wolf.
“As overjoyed as I am that you have accepted your new Luna as your Goddess, unfortunately, there is no time to celebrate just yet. A threat is fast approaching our pack and we must act quickly. Hunters are coming. They wish to take your Luna, but we will not let that happen.” I spoke loud and clear, my voice carried through the village. Angry voices and remarks were hauled from the crowd, not aimed at Zelena or me, but instead at the idea of hunters coming to harm their new Luna. It was clear then that the pack would join in my mission to protect Zelena, without hesitation.
“Measures are already underway to ensure your safety and to put an end the incoming threat. This afternoon two transport vans will be taking the young, the old, the weak and anyone else who wishes to go, to alternate housing away from the village. It is only temporary, but it is necessary. Please pack only essentials and be ready by three o’clock. Any of you that wish to fight for your pack, please make yourself known to your new Beta, Cole Thomas, son of former Beta Spartan.” I pointed to Cole who took a step forward.
The pack stood still for a few moments, taking in what I had just told them. They slowly started to peel off and headed in different directions around the village. A large group stood waiting at the bottom of the steps, waiting for Cole. I turned and put my hand on his shoulder.
“Take note of who wants to stay and report back to me in a few hours” he nodded his head in agreement. Holding Zelena’s hand I began to pull her with me back to the door.
“My Luna” Cole said to Zee as he bowed his head in respect. She gently touched his shoulder and gave him a half smile before hurrying over to my side.
“Did you see that? He called me Luna” she whispered excitedly as we went back into the house. I smiled and wrapped my arm around her shoulder, kissing the top of her head.
“Go get your bag packed and ready, I have some stuff to do before I see you off” I told her, gently pushing her towards the stairs. She spun around and glared at me.
“I don’t need a bag, I'm not going to the other house” she said sternly.
“Uh, yes, you are” I replied stepping toward her.
“No, I'm staying here, with you” she took a step back and crossed her arms across her chest.
“Zelena, I’m not arguing about this. You will go with the other woman and children to where it’s safe”
“I’m not arguing either and I'm not hiding. They are coming for me and I’m going to stay and fight” she huffed.
“Exactly Zelena” I shouted,
“They are coming for you, for MY Mate. I'm not going to let you put yourself in danger so that you can prove how strong you are. I’m not going to risk you getting hurt. You will go with the others and that’s final” my anger was growing as I yelled at Zelena. The fire in my stomach was slowly spreading. She glared at me, not saying a word. I could feel her anger radiating off her skin. She quickly flicked her wrist at me and I flew back across the floor hitting the door. I stumbled on my feet but quickly regained my balance. I looked over at Zee and growled a warning to her.
“I will stay, and I will fight” she spat across the foyer. I started to walk towards her with my eyes lowered, glaring from under my lashes. She held up both her hands and I was stopped mid stride, she put up that force field, just like the one in the cabin. I banged my fists on the invisible wall and pushed as hard as I could.
“Let it down” I screamed with another bang of my fist. She shook her head with a wicked smirk. I placed both my hands against the wall and pushed, I yelled in frustration and pushed again with all my might. Zelena suddenly slid back along the floor, staying on her feet. I felt a wave of energy fly from my hands and a heaviness in my legs. My skin prickled and a warmth spread through my fingers. Zelena dropped her hands to her sides and stared at me with a blank expression.
“That is enough you two” my mother's strong voice echoed from behind me. I quickly glanced at Mum’s angry face and looked back over my hands. Did I just do that? I looked back to Zelena and she was still staring at me, shocked and a little frightened. I ran to her and picked her up in my arms, squeezing her tightly into my chest.
“I’m sorry, baby, I'm so sorry. I didn’t mean to” I mumbled into her neck. I can’t believe I just used her own powers against her, I could have hurt her. I'm so fucking stupid.
“Gunner” she breathed out,
“Gunner, you just used my power” I put her on her feet and she grabbed my hands, turning them over in her hands, examining my fingers and palms.
“How, how did you do that?” she asked. I didn’t know how to answer her, because I didn’t know how I did it. I know what I did but how is another story.
“It’s your bond” Mum said from behind us,
“Because your True Mate bond allows you to share your gifts, now, that apparently includes the powers of the Goddess too”
“But you said it could be dangerous if that happened” I said concerned.
“I did, and it still may be. But I also said this kind of pairing has never happen before, so we don’t know what to expect”.
I looked back down at Zelena and cupped her face in my hands, lifting her chin to look at me. My beautiful little wolf, my Goddess. So strong and precious. The safest option for her could only be one thing.
“I’m sorry my love, you can stay, but you have to promise to stay close and do as I say” She smiled and wrapped her arms around my waist, pressing her cheek into my chest,
“I will I promise” she squealed.
I don’t like it, not one bit. But she has proven herself strong and capable. The use of her gifts will help protect her, plus I will die before letting anything bad happen to her. She will be safest by my side.
