The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 74 - War part 2

Gunner.

We burst through the trees and I could clearly see the circle of hunters closing in on Zee and Tobias’s wolf. The wolf beside me growled angrily and launched forward, charging at the hunters. He was running right towards one of the traps. I ran as hard as I could and tackled him to the side just as the arrows fired. I hissed at the pain in my shoulder as we rolled through the dirt landing behind another cabin, he looked at me growled. I pointed at the arrows now poking out of the ground where we were moments ago. He nodded and growled lowly. I put my finger to my lips and glanced around the corner of the cabin.
Zee had her hands out in front of her, waving one of them out and back. A hunter went soaring through the air with one of her movements. Tobias was in front of her, protectively growling and snapping but he didn’t attack. I looked closer and noticed the bullets stopping mid-air and falling to the ground at their feet. Zelena had put up her force field. Tobias couldn’t get out to attack and the bullets get in. That’s my girl.
To the right of them I could make out a few bare-chested men on their knees, Tobias’s men. There were hunters standing behind them with knives to their throats. Why hadn’t they killed them? One older man was standing close to them but facing Zelena, watching her intently. He was in charge, he stood with a cocky authority to his posture. I ducked back behind the cabin and looked at the grey wolf.
“Zelena has a force field up around her and Tobias, we can’t get to them and neither can the hunters” the grey wolf tilted his head to the side as I spoke. Not everyone knows the extent of her powers yet, they have only seen the bare minimum. If this wolf is one of Tobias’s then he would have no idea how far her powers can go.
“She won’t be able to hold it up for too long. One of the hunters have a few of Tobias’s men on their knees in human form, with knives at their necks. It looks like he is using them to bait Zelena into dropping the shield”. The wolf’s growl rumbled through his body as he started inching forward. I held him back as I continued.
“You need to free the wolves and then start taking out the hunters. I’ll take them out as I go, but I need to get to Zee.” The wolf nodded and launched out from behind the cabin, I followed after him running out towards the ring of hunters. I jumped through the air landing on the back of a hunter. I dug my claws into his neck and jerked my hand to the side, the rip of his flesh was evident by the blood that squirted from his neck. He fell forward and I quickly turned and rolled across the dirt to the one next to him. I sliced my claws through the back of his knees, he screamed out and fell to the ground. The sound of his cry alerted the others to my presence. I looked to the next hunter and he was slowly turning his gun to me. I jumped up at him wrapping my knees around his neck, I twisted my body around and threw my feet back to the ground. The force of my twisting body snapped his neck, a move I learnt from a Marvel movie. His body flew through the air and landed behind me with a thud. The new hunter in front of me now had his gun pointed at my face and ready to fire. He suddenly dropped the gun as his face scrunched up in pain, his feet lifted of the ground and his body twisted and contorted in the air. It took just a few seconds, too quick for him to even let out a scream. His broken and mangled body hit the ground and I turned to look at Zelena. She was floating just above the ground and her eyes were glowing a bright yellow.
The growls and howls behind me let me know that the grey wolf has succeeded in freeing the other fighters. A shot zoomed past me, close enough to feel the heat from it. I looked ahead of me and the hunter standing there took a quick step back in fear. I lunged at him grabbing hold of his head with both my hands, I twisted his neck with a loud snap and threw his body at the hunter that was behind him. The next hunter flew back across the clearing slamming hard into a cabin wall. Another two beside him were sent flying up into the air and came crashing back down at incredible speed. Their weak bodies popped like jelly filled balloons at the impact. A wolf zoomed past me tackling another hunter and digging its teeth into his neck.
I took a quick look around, the wolves were effortlessly taking down the last of the hunters. Zelena was sending two more of them flying through the air in the direction of one of Felix’s traps. The hunter’s bodies bounced along the ground and then disappeared into the hole filled with spikes. I looked back and saw Tobias’s wolf standing over a hunter, his large paw was pinning him down. It was the man that was watching Zelena, the one in charge. I quickly ran over to them,
“Tobias Stop!” I screamed. He whipped his head to look at me and growled baring his teeth.
“I want that one alive” Tobias looked back down at the hunter and pressed his claws into his skin, leaning down to his face, Tobias snapped his teeth. He let the hunter go and stepped back to Zelena’s side. He growled at two of his wolves to step forward, changing into their human form the two men then grabbed the hunter and lifted him to his feet. The hunter had slashes across his chest but was otherwise fine.
With the situation under control here I took the minute to check in with the others. Not being in my wolf form meant I can’t flash the commanders.
***Cole report***
***We’re good here at the south***
***Smith report***
***Clearing out the stragglers in the east***
***Cole report on the commanders***
***Yes Alpha***
***Dad***
He didn’t answer my flash.
***Dad report***
Still no answer. My stomach tightened and a panic started to build
***Has anyone got eyes on my father?***
There was a moment of silence that seemed to go on for ever, before an answer came from Cole,
***My dad has him, he’s wounded pretty bad but still alive***
***Get him to the house immediately***
***Yes Alpha***
***And the commanders?***
***They are all clear***
With the news of my father’s injuries the rage inside me increased tenfold. I turned to look at the surviving hunter. I stalked towards him slowly, a growl rumbling in the back of my throat made my whole body vibrate.
“Why did you come here?” I snapped at the hunter. He was older, with a short silvering beard and streaks of grey through his dark brown hair.
“You know why” he chuckled. Yeh, I know why. Zelena.
“Why do you want the Triple Goddess?” I roared. The hunter just smirked at me, staying silent. I stepped closer and threw my fist into the side of his face. Growls of excitement came from round me.
“Answer me” I growled. The hunter spat blood from his mouth and looked back at me with a grin. I lowered my head and growled a warning, if he isn’t going to answer he isn’t going to live.
“Gunner” Zelena’s voice came from behind me. I held my hand out to silence her.
“Talk hunter” I warned him, one last time.
“Her power can destroy your filthy kind. Her line can end you all” he snarled, venom dripping from his words. I chuckled at him and he looked at me surprised.
“You don’t know her at all” I smirked. These hunters thought that Zelena would turn on us, on were-kind. It was the abuse from one of their own that ensured she would never side with them. Thanks to the years of torture and abuse at the hands of a hunter, Zelena knew them for what they really were. Heartless monsters. I couldn’t hold the laugh in any longer, I began to chuckle out loud. They have no idea what she is capable of, and they thought she would do their bidding.
“She is a werewolf, she is our family. You thought you could turn her into one of you, turn her against her own kind?” I leaned forward and laughed hard.
“Baby are you alright” Zelena called out. I looked back at her, she was confused but almost smiling at my reaction. She quickly brought me back to reality. No I wasn’t alright. They tried to take her, my Mate. They wanted to hurt her and use her. My rage exploded inside me, the fire flowed through my arms and legs. I stood up straight and stepped closer to the hunter. I grabbed his head with my hands and forced his face to look at me.
“She will never be your weapon” I snarled. With a quick flick of my hands I snapped his head to the side and his body fell limp in the arms of the fighters. They let him go and his body slumped to the ground, dead.
I turned to Zee and took three large steps towards her and pulled her into my arms. I sniffed at her hair, taking in her delicious scent, citrus and cherry-blossoms. She wrapped her arms around my waist and buried her face into my chest. The contact of her skin calmed me instantly. With the adrenalin gone, the pain in my arm was staggering. She pulled her head back and looked over my face.
“You’re bleeding” she snapped, grabbing my chin and turning my head.
“Your ear, Gunner” she gasped releasing my face.
“I’m okay Zee, don’t panic” I told her trying to sound soothing. I failed though and she could tell. She looked over at my shoulder and noticed the blood and bullet hole. Her eyes glowed yellow and her hands on my forearms felt like fire.
“They shot you” she growled. Her body started shaking and her eyes burned into mine. She was pushing her rage onto me and I wanted to give over to it. I could feel her anger coursing through my veins. The urge to kill everything around us pulsed through me. I did the first thing I could think of and smashed my lips against hers, pulling her body into mine and forcing her lips apart. I kissed her hard and fast, tasting her with my tongue. She hesitated but began to kiss me back, moving her lips with mine. The rage gradually died down, and our burning bodies cooled. I pulled my lips away and she sucked in a deep breath.
“I’m okay Zelena, I need you to stay calm” I whispered keeping my forehead pressed against hers.
“I’m sorry” she said softly,
“Don’t be sorry my love, just try and keep your cool okay”
“Okay” she breathed out.
