Mother of the Moon - Chapter 88 - Home
Zelena.
When we arrived back at the pack house, I was surprised by how much it had changed. We’re in the midst of summer and everything looks greener and brighter. There were flowers and plants everywhere. No trace whatsoever of there ever being any kind of bloody battle here. We hopped out of the car and walked around to the front of the house. Lupus was sitting on the porch swing reading a book. He looked up as we stepped up onto the porch.
“Zelena” he half coughed.
“What on Earth are you doing here?” he called standing up and taking four giant steps forward to wrap me in a hug.
“Doc said I could bring her home” Gunner answered for me.
“Was that the doctor’s decision, or yours?” Lupus grumbled giving Gunner the side eye.
“Both of ours” Gunner shrugged.
“Mmhmm” Lupus hummed, not convinced at all.
I got an inkling at the hospital that Gunner was a bit harsh with Doctor Tenner while I was there, Lupus just confirmed all my suspicions. I managed to wiggle myself out of his strong arms and take a breath. Wow, Lupus has really opened up to me, hasn’t he? I mean, he was always seriously nice and sweet with me. But now, it’s more enthusiastic, and kind of fatherly, like he sees me as his own daughter now. I like it.
“I’m going to take her up to rest for a bit, before we tell the pack that she’s back. Can you try to keep her homecoming on the D. L.?” Gunner asked his father.
“Of course, take your time” he responded with a smile down at me. His eyes showing all too well that he knows we won’t be resting up there. I blushed and turned my face away. Gunner took my hand and led me through the foyer and up the stairs. I didn’t realise how much I missed what this house smells like. How could I miss something that I didn’t know I was missing out on? The smell of Roe’s cooking mixed with wildflowers mixed with wolf scent, it was exquisite. I breathed in deeply, enjoying each smell as it hit my nose. Mm, home.
We walked through the bedroom door and Gunner quickly slammed it behind him. Lunging forward, he scooped me up in his arms. I squealed with joy as he threw us both down on the bed. He attacked my face with kisses and his hands roamed over my body.
“Gunner, wait” I breathed,
“I want to have a shower first, I still smell like hospital” I groaned pushing his big head away from my neck. He growled loudly and rolled off my body, throwing his arms to his sides like a toddler having a tantrum.
“Oh, stop it” I giggled kissing his forehead,
“I’ll be quick”
“Ugh, fine” he moaned, emphasising the word ‘fine’. I rolled off the bed and ducked into the bathroom. As soon as I walked through the door, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and gasped. I’ve gotten so thin. I can see my collarbones protruding out and my cheeks look so shallow. All that weight I managed to gain in my first few weeks here, it was gone again. Is this what happens when you’re fed through a tube for three months. How I don’t feel as weak as I look, is beyond me. I brushed off my unnerving appearance and jumped in the shower.
The water was deliciously soothing. I let it run down my entire body, warming my skin and cleaning away the last of that sterile hospital stench. I tilted my head back and let the water beat down on my face. It is so good to be home, back with Gunner, the pack and the family. My family. The hot water washed over me, relaxing every inch of my being, I blew out a deep breath and I felt my body lift off the ground. I was no longer under the water of the shower but standing in a dark room. It smelt terrible, like damp and mouldy. I couldn’t see anything through the darkness, but I could hear soft sobs coming from the corner of the room. I stepped forward, toward the sound of the sobs but was instantly pulled from my vision. I stepped into the wall of the shower, thumping my face into the wall.
“Oomph” I grunted as I rubbed my hand over my nose and forehead.
“You okay in there?” I heard Gunner call,
“Yeh, all good” I shouted back. What was that? Another Drakos vision, but of what, a dark room? Who was crying and why would I take myself there? I turned off the tap and stepped out of the shower. I’ll talk to Gunner about it. I wrapped a towel around myself and walked out of the bathroom. Gunner was laying on the bed holding his phone over his face. He lifted his head and looked at me and sat up on the bed. Just as I was about to open my mouth, the bedroom door flew open with such force is thought it was going to fly right off its hinges. In the doorway stood Nat, with her eyes bulging and her breathing rapid.
“Nat” I gasped, pulling the towel tighter to my naked body. She took four running steps towards me and wrapped her hands around my body.
“You’re here. You’re actually here, I can’t believe it” she squeaked into the crook of my neck. I was pinned tightly in her grasp. My arms stuck to my chest holding the towel and her body pressed hard up against mine.
“I can’t breathe” I choked out. Nat didn’t loosen her hold but instead started sobbing frantically.
“I was so scared” she cried,
“I thought you were never going to wake up, I just got you and then I was going to lose you. It’s been so terrible without you here, Gunner is always grumpy, Mum hasn’t stopped cooking, Smith follows me everywhere, repeatedly asking if I’m okay, and fucking Tobias, don’t get me started on Tobias” Nat mumbled quickly through her sobs. She always talks a lot and really fast, especially when she is upset or nervous. I think it’s adorable.
“Nat, let her breathe will ya” Gunner growled walking over to us. He peeled her arms away and I managed to catch a giant breath. I smiled lovingly at Nat. Her face now red and wet from crying, her mascara was smudged over her eyes and her nose was bright pink. She smiled back at me and wiped her nose and eyes on the back of her hand. Then Smith appeared in the doorway panting. Smith had quickly become my best friend and always made me feel happy and safe. I stepped toward him ready to pull him in for a hug, but Gunner quickly stepped between us, blocking me and facing Smith and growled a warning.
“Gunner” I snapped angrily. This overprotective asshole I thought.
“You’re naked” he growled at me over his shoulder. I had forgotten that I was still wearing just my wet bath towel. Oops.
“Oh yeh, hold on” I grabbed whatever clothes were on the top of the basket by the bathroom door and ducked into the bathroom to change. I took a pair of my denim shorts and one of Gunner’s t-shirts, no underwear, stupid me. I walked back out into the room and wrapped my arms around Nat’s shoulder from behind and pulled her down to my level.
“By the way, I missed you too sis” I whispered as I kissed her cheek. She grabbed my arms and pressed her cheek to mine. I walked to Smith who was still standing by the door behind Gunner. I did a little turn and waved my hands over my body to show him that I was now dressed. He rolled his eyes and stepped to the side. Smith had a huge smile on his face and quickly stepped forward to wrap his arms around my body. He picked me up off the ground and spun me around.
“Hey Luna, we fucking missed you around here” He cooed as I spun through the air. He placed me back on my feet and rested his hands on the top of my shoulders.
“Hiya Smith” I smiled brightly at him.
“I know that you’re a bad ass Goddess and all that, but do you think you could not scare us all like that again?” he huffed with a smirk.
“I’ll do my best” I said with a soft punch to his chest. I looked at Gunner and he was watching us closely, keeping his eyes fixed on Smith’s hands. I remember what happed the first time I hugged Smith, Gunner nearly tore his head off. He has gotten a little better with the whole ‘no touching’ thing, but not exactly comfortable with it yet. I took a step back out of Smiths hands and stopped when I reached Gunner's chest. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed his nose into my hair. A soft growl vibrated through his chest as he pressed his lips to my neck.
“I told Dad not to tell anyone that we were back yet, how did you know we were here?” Gunner asked Nat lifting his head from my neck.
“Oh please” she huffed with a laugh,
“I sniffed her out the second I stepped through the front door. Did you really think that I wouldn’t smell her?” Nat laughed again, slapping her brother on the back.
“Of course you did, you’re more like a bloodhound than a werewolf” Gunner snickered. Smith roared with laughter, throwing his head back.
“You should see her face when I fart” he snorted. We all started laughing and a blushing Nat punched Smith’s shoulder.
“Stop, I just have a better nose than you lot” she whined, crossing her arms and stomping her foot. Her bottom lip dropped into a pout and her eyebrows pulled together, making her look much younger than she is. This just made Gunner and Smith laugh more.
“Ugh, whatever you heathens. Come on girlfriend, let’s get some food” she said pulling me from Gunners arms and dragging me down to the kitchen. The sound of Gunner and Smith joking and laughing followed behind us.
