Mother of the Moon - Chapter 151 - Help Me

Zelena.

“Gunner, stop it, please” I pleaded. But it was no use. There was no getting through to him, not like this. Tobias is too far away to flash for help, and Gunner is the only other person I have flashed with. I don’t know what to do, I can’t use my powers on him. Not again. Not after the last time. I looked over Gunner’s shoulder and saw Smith and Nat standing together further down the beach, they were too far away to be able to hear us. They were watching Gunner and I, but still totally unaware of the situation. And then it dawned on me. I have become close with both of them. Nat is like my big sister, and Smith is my bestest friend. We are meant to be able to flash with the ones we have a special bond with, that’s why I can flash with Tobias. In a last-ditch effort, I called for them, reaching out with my mind.
***Help me!***
No response. Gunner tightened his hold and shook my body. I looked back to him, and his canines were now fully extended. I sobbed and tried to kick him, but my bare foot hitting his shin had no effect.
“Stop it” he growled and lifted me off the ground so that my face was in line with his.
“Who is he, Zelena?” he demanded. His hot breath slapped against my face, his claws buried into my skin. I looked back to Smith and Nat and they were walking slowly through the water towards us.
***Smith!***
I flashed. With all the power I could, calling on every tiny aspect of our bond. He stopped in his tracks and looked up at me with a tilt of his head.
***Zelena?***
Smith’s voice echoed in my mind. I cried out a sob and struggled in Gunner’s hands. He caught where I was looking, seeing my eyes on Smith and it only enraged him further.
***Smith, help me!***
I screamed through my flash. He took off running just as Gunner tipped his head back and roared. The sudden burst to my eardrums startled me and I screamed out loud. As Gunner’s head came back down, he glared at me and growled. His head came forward and before I had a chance to react, his teeth sank into the side of my neck. The pain was excruciating, worse than anything I had felt before. The other times that Gunner had bitten me was during an intimate moment, and that pain was almost pleasurable. But this... this was all pain. I felt like my body was on fire and my insides were trying to tear their way out.
I lifted my arm and Gunner went flying away from me. I dropped to my knees and grabbed my neck, as I pulled my hand back to my face, it was covered in blood. Gunner landed in the sand at the feet of Nat and Smith. He quickly snapped back to his feet in a crouched position and growled with his full canines bared.
“Gunner what the fuck are you doing?” Nat screeched and grabbed at his shoulder. He snatched her hand away and used it to throw her across the beach. She screamed as she flew through the air before thumping back onto the sand, her head hitting against the ground first. That was all it took, that was enough. Smith ran to Nat’s side as Gunner charge back towards me again. Just as he was about to reach me, I put up my force field. Gunner hit it at full speed and bounced backwards. This did nothing to snap him out of his rage, if anything it made it worse. He roared and yelled as he smashed his fists against the invisible wall. Smith was approaching him from behind with his mouth moving, he was trying to talk him down. But when Gunner turned around to swipe at Smith with his claws, I snapped.
I dropped the wall and wrapped my power around Gunner’s body. I lifted him into the air, and he screamed for me to release him. He growled and barked and tried desperately to thrash about, but my hold was unbreakable.
“What the fuck happened?” yelled Smith from the other side of where Gunner was hovering. He shifted his gaze from Gunner to me and then his eyes went wide. He ran to me and dropped down at my side, he went to touch my neck but I pushed his hand away.
“What happened Zelena?” he asked urgently,
“He attacked me” I snarled up at Gunner. Smith looked from me to Gunner and back again,
“He would never” Smith said with a deep breath.
Gunner roared again and tried to fight against my hold. His rage was getting worse, and it was getting harder to push it back. If I didn’t get him to calm down, if I couldn’t bring my Gunner back, we could both get lost to the dark. I struggled to my feet, keeping my eyes on Gunner. I twitched and contracted my fingers and the power around Gunner tightened. He screamed out in pain and frustration. I moved the power further up to his neck and I let it tighten around his throat, I held it there until his screaming stopped.
“Zelena! Zelena stop!” Smith yelled and tried to grab my hand. I pushed his hand away and hissed at him.
“Zelena, your eyes are glowing. Please stop, you’re killing him” Smith begged me.
“I’m not going to kill him” I snapped.
I just wanted to knock him out, a minute without air should put him on his ass. Gunner growled and coughed for a little longer than I expected, then he was quiet. As I lowered him to the ground, I felt sick to my stomach. My body felt weak and tired. Smith rushed to Gunner’s side and checked his pulse. He looked back to me and nodded his head, indicating that Gunner was okay. My head began to spin and my vision went blurry. I was falling, slowly heading face first into the sand, when my body was flung upwards and I landed against a hard chest.
“Put her down” I heard Smith growl. I tried to refocus my eyes and look at the face above me, but I was just too tired and I didn’t have the energy. My body went limp in the arms of the one holding me. I took in a deep breath before I passed out, cologne and wet earth filled my nose.
