The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 50 - Dangers Lurking
Gunner.
Mum and Dad were still tidying up the library, but Artemis had already left. They had piled the books up on the floor and the broken shelves were gone.
“Are you both alright?” I asked walking into the room.
They both turned and looked at me at the same time.
“Yes, we’re okay” Dad grumbled,
“Were you affected?” he asked,
“What do you mean? Like, by her powers?” I questioned,
“Yes, did you feel them” Mum asked urgently,
“I don’t know, it was a weird feeling”.
Mum rushed forward and grabbed my hand, pulling me down on the couch to sit next to her.
“Gunner, she has Gravitokinesis. Do you know what that can mean?” Mum asked leaning towards me.
“Ah... she can make things fly around the room” I said sarcastically.
“No son, if she can access the full extent of gravity, then her powers are almost limitless” said Dad with a very serious frown.
“Is that a bad thing?”
“No baby, but it is very dangerous. With your True Mate bond heightening her emotions and the unpredictability of these powers, she will either lead the entire Were species into a new age of greatness or she could wipe us all out completely. Did you feel anything when she was accessing her powers?”
“Uh, I don’t know what I felt. I felt heavy, like I was being pulled into the ground, but my head was like flying into the air. When I held her, I just felt lost, like I was in the dark”
They looked at each other with raised eyebrows.
“What?” I demanded with a grunt.
“We talked it over with Artemis and have all agreed that because of your True Mate bond, and your ability to share your powers with each other, it is very possible that you too will be able to access the powers of the Goddess” Mum said sternly,
“Wait seriously?”
“We aren’t sure, there has never been a male Triple Goddess as the powers are only passed from mother to daughter. But because you aren't inheriting them it means you’re not a God or Goddess and could instead access them through your True Mate bond. However, if you use the power, you may offend the Moon Goddess causing her to retaliate against you” Mum continued,
“Couldn’t that hurt Zee? If I use her power, would the Moon Goddess retaliate against only me, or her as well?”
“I can’t answer these questions, Gunner. There has never been anything like this recorded in our history. A True Mate bond is rare enough on its own, but adding a Triple Goddess to the mix is just unheard of”.
This was the first time I had ever heard my mother sound so unsure. She knows everything about Were-kind and the legends of our species. To hear her speak with uncertainty was nerve-racking.
Everything has changed so fast, I really haven’t had a moment to take it all in and think about it. There have been some weird feelings, like sudden surges of emotions. Her control over her wolf and the speed in which she is learning is unusual. But there was nothing to indicate that Zee had powers. Last night's sexual marathon was definitely not what I was expecting. I’ve only slept with someone once before, and it didn’t feel anything like what I have with Zelena. With Zee it’s almost animalistic, there’s an urge and this unrelenting desire to always be near her and to touch her. With Zoe it was uncomfortable and forced and just felt unnatural. Is that the bond, or the powers, or is it just love? I have this constant nagging feeling of fear. With this new revelation comes an unending list of threats and dangers.
“What are we going to do now?” I asked with a heavy breath,
“Do about what darling?” replied Mum,
“About Zee and her new status, we can’t keep her hidden from the pack forever, they deserve to know”
“Of course they deserve to know, but it is Zelena’s choice as to when they find out” Mum said soothingly.
“But what about after that? You know that this news won't stay here, it will travel worldwide. When the other packs find out, and they will, they’ll come for her and not all of them will be friendly”
“They can try” growled Dad.
“You will help then, help me protect her?”
Mum pulled me into her arms and squeezed me tight.
“You don’t even have to question it Gunner, baby” she squeaked.
“Zelena is a Triple Goddess, yes. But more importantly, she is your True Mate, and she belongs here with you, the pack will fight for her if need be” Dad said firmly placing his hand on my shoulder.
“Okay good” I said pulling myself from my mother's arms,
“Dad, I need your help”
“With what?” he asked,
“We need to get Zee’s father and take him to the cabin. If he knows anything more about Zelena and her mother, then we are going to find out”
“You’re sure?”
“Definitely” I answered with a strong nod.
Dad stood up a little taller, straightening his back and squaring his shoulders. He nodded his head in agreement, with a deep grunt.
“Okay, well I’m going to go and get dinner started, you two can talk business” Mum said softly as she stood up and headed for the door.
“We will take Spartan and Cole with us” Dad announced. Even though I had already assumed as much. They are Beta and future Beta after all.
“What about Smith?” I questioned,
“He will stay and watch over the girls in the house. Mazz and Julian will guard the pack”
“Do we need the extra guards?”
“We don’t know anything about this man and how he came to raise the Triple Goddess, but it can’t just be an accident”.
I hadn’t thought of that before. Why was a human raising a Were? And not just any Were, the Triple Goddess. Dad's right, it’s not just coincidence, there’s more going on here.
“Okay, I agree. When?” I stated,
“As soon as possible, it’s like you said, we can’t contain this for long and we need all the information we can get”
“Well, tomorrow then, while Zee is training with Artemis. From what I understand he doesn’t have a job, so he’ll probably be at the house”
“Okay. Call Cole and Smith, tell them to come to the hall”.
Dad sat back in his chair and closed his eyes, he was flashing with Spartan, Mazz and Julian. I flashed Cole and Smith,
***Cole, Smith, I need you to come to the house immediately***
***Dad just told me, we’re on the way*** Cole answered right away.
***I’m in the forest, I'll be there in a minute I have to change back***
***Why are you wolfing?***
***I needed to get away from my mum, she’s extra clingy today***
***We’ll be in the hall***
***Gotcha***
***Okay***
Dad opened his eyes and looked at me, I nodded my head and we both got up and walk to the hall at the back of the house
