Twin Moon - Chapter 239 - The Sister I Chose
Zelena.
I stood at the head of the table, holding baby B. in my arms. Tobias sat to my right, with little G. happily asleep in his arms. Next to him was Lunaya and Alyse, then Felix. On my Left was Smith, taking on his new Beta role. Next to him was Lupus, Roe and Nat. I debated calling Daniel, Gunner named him Delta before he left. I would have thought that he’d give Felix the title, seeing as how experienced and trusted he is. But Felix is the head commander now, he can’t be head commander and pack Delta. I like Daniel well enough, he seems capable and smart, I just don’t know him too well yet. This is about my pups, and I won’t tell just anyone about this, regardless of their rank. Only the ones I deeply trust. Felix fits into that box, Daniel doesn’t, at least not yet.
“What's going on, sweet girl? You look all frazzled” Roe asked softly,
“I have to tell you all something, something important” I said with a shaky voice,
“You can’t be pregnant again already” Smith piped up jokingly,
“Not unless you and Tobias have something to share with the group” Smith chuckled. Tobias growled threateningly, the deep rumble shook the table. Lupus smacked Smith across the back of the head and hissed,
“That’s not fucking funny” Lupus scolded.
“What? Shit on me for trying to lighten the mood, feels like someone's kitten just died” he snipped back.
“Smith, give it a rest” Nat groaned annoyed.
“Lena, I was meant to leave for Howlers an hour ago, do I need to be here for this?” Nat asked.
“If I have to be here, then you have to be here” Smith fired back.
I couldn’t help but pick up on the hints of frustration in their voices. I have never asked everyone together like this before. What makes them think this is all just a big joke. Smith and Nat began to bicker, while Roe tried to get between them. Felix shook his head and rubbed his temples and Tobias went back to cooing at baby G. The whole careless attitude of the room was starting to get on my nerves. I carefully handed B. to Lupus, who took him gladly. I looked around at all the important people in my life, bar one. The only ones looking at all interested were Lunaya and Alyse. I took a deep breath and slammed my fists hard into the table. The edge of the wood cracked and splintered as it snapped off, landing at my feet.
“I am trying to tell you something!” I screamed.
“Zelena!” Lunaya and Roe both growled at the same time. I snapped my eyes angrily to my mother. I was heaving with rage and annoyance, my blood was pumping boiling hot, and I could feel my canines pressing at my gums.
“This is important” I growled back at Roe,
“And this table was crafted by Gunner’s great grandfather” Roe snapped angrily. My canines extended through my gums and my bones groaned inside my body. I could feel the sparks of electricity dance through my veins, and the airy feeling fill my head. A hand grabbed my wrist and squeezed.
“Calm” Tobias hissed lowly. The place where his skin touched mine was instantly cool, I could feel that same thrum of vibrations and the gentle feeling spread through me. My canines retracted and I cooled down. I looked down at him and smiled in appreciation.
“Thank you” I mouthed silently. He nodded his head once, let go of my hand and picked up G’s chubby little fingers once again.
“I’m sorry. I'm a little worked up” I said with a grunt.
“We hadn’t noticed” Lupus teased while looking down and smiling at a babbling B.
“Go on Zelena” Lunaya prompted. I looked at her and she nodded encouragingly. How have I gone this long without her in my life. How have I gotten by. I smiled weakly back at her and nodded.
“I suppose I'll start with something that most of you may already know” I began with a heavy breath and the room listened silently.
“Alpha Galterio from Origin Wolf was told about a prophecy, this is why he took me. He and Artemis thought that the prophecy was about a Triple Goddess with two Mates”
“Yes, we know about that. He tried to mark you, but it didn’t take” Roe agreed with a nod,
“What was the prophecy?” Felix interjected. I looked over at him and he bowed his head,
“If you don’t mind, Luna” he added quickly.
“Mum” I said turning to Lunaya,
“Mum?” Roe interrupted with surprise. She was still a long way from forgiving Lunaya and understanding her reaction to the twins. Hopefully she will understand it all in a few minutes. I nodded at Roe and offered a gentle smile. She pursed her lips and glared at Lunaya, but shrugged and leaned back into her chair.
“Go on” I said to Lunaya,
“Spawned by the one who gave us breath. Vanished from life but spared from death. The Ethereal one gives she who is promised. To wield the power of the Triple Goddess. Where the moon is three, two will come. Once the seal is made, destiny is done. With one comes death, pain and destruction. The other comes life, love and devotion. Peril will end and the wolf will thrive. But for peace to reign, only one can survive” she recited loudly for everyone to hear.
It was still weird hearing it for myself. I looked around the room at everyone's faces, all of them trying to make sense of it. My attention snapped to Tobias, I needed to know if he’s heard it already, if he knows about it. He looked pensive, but not surprised. I don’t know what to make of his reaction.
“Where the moon is three, does that mean Tri-Moon?” Felix asked. I lifted my eyes to him and blanked. I had never thought about that before. I looked at Lunaya and she started back at me.
“Does it?” I asked her,
“I... I don’t know. It could be. I have never been able to decipher that part. But it makes sense that it is speaking of a place” she answered with a half nod.
“There is no other pack that references the three phases of the moon. There is of course Crescent Wolf and Waning Wolf, but they only name one part of the cycle. Tri-Moon names all three. It would make a lot of sense” Roe said to Lunaya and myself.
“I agree” Lunaya replied with a nod.
“The start is obvious, the one who gave us breath, that means Selene” Roe said with certainty,
“As well as the next, vanished from life, because she doesn’t show herself to anyone anymore” Roe said with a nod. I assume she means anyone, besides me, but I decided not to voice that out loud.
“And the next part is clear as well, she who is promised, that means the Triple Goddess” Nat said to her mother, they were both now talking to each other while the rest of us watched and listened.
“Zelena, yes. Now, two will come, I assume that means the twins” Roe said pensively as she ran her fingers absentmindedly up and down her forearm,
“But the seal part, what does that mean?” Nat asked while deep in thought.
“The Book of the Goddess, the one that explains Selene and her lineage, it states that the mark of the Goddess can be placed on the wrist or the back of the neck. That could be the seal it is referring to”
“Which means that her destiny is set. As in, she will only become the Triple Goddess after her mark appears? Well, that’s already happened” Nat scoffed,
“Yes, but what does that have to do with the twins? Neither of them have any markings, we’ve checked, many times. If Zelena is the Triple Goddess, why or how does that affect her twins beyond continuing the line. That part doesn't make sense. G. can’t be the next chosen daughter, it’s too soon after Zelena. I'm just not sure, something isn’t adding up here” Roe said confused.
“I may be able to offer insight into that part” Lunaya said softly, she stood up and looked to me for approval. I nodded my head, telling her to go on.
“Zelena is also a twin” she said without hesitation. The room was silent, all eyes now searing into Lunaya’s skin.
“And you’re only telling us this now?” Roe snapped. She wasn’t holding back any punches, that’s for sure.
“I was always going to tell her, I just didn’t know how to” she snipped back,
“You already know?” Nat said looking up at me. I nodded my head and sighed,
“She just told me this morning” I confessed.
“Is this why you flipped out in the delivery room? Why you ran off all flustered and upset” Nat spat at Lunaya,
“It is” Lunaya nodded,
“And you didn’t think that would have been a good moment to bring this all up” Roe sneered angrily while waving her arms around.
“I was a little taken aback in the moment. I had to process it all. The prophecy was meant to be dead, I thought it died with my pack and my family. I never considered that Zelena was alive, or that she too would have twins. This is all a little unprecedented” Lunaya said quickly, she was starting to get flustered or anxious, I could hear it in her voice.
“You should have said something sooner, before the twins were born” Roe growled angrily.
“I know that! But what’s done is done” Lunaya growled back. G. started to stir and began with some soft wailing. All eyes turned to Tobias as he tried to calm her back down again.
“Now look what you’ve done” Roe hissed at Lunaya,
“You’re the one yelling” Lunaya hissed back.
“Stop it, the both of you” I said in a hushed yell.
“You’re as bad as each other. Yes Roe, you’re right, Lunaya should have said something about me having a twin a long time ago. But she has apologised and is trying to make it right. And she’s right too. What’s done is done. All we can do now is figure out how this affects the twins and what sort of danger they are in. If my sister is truly dead, then perhaps the prophecy is too. But if she is, by some miracle, still alive, then we have to find her” I said sternly. I let every ounce of Luna dominance seep into my words, and apparently, it had an effect. No one argued or disagreed, in fact, they all sat quietly with their heads down. I know now that this is a show of obedience.
“A sister?” Nat asked softly, finally breaking the uncomfortable silence of the room. I whipped my head to her and sighed when I caught the sadness in her eyes. I walked around the table and past Roe and Lupus. I pulled out the chair next to Nat and took her hands in mine.
“You are my sister. Also my best friend and one of my most favourite people. I may have another sister out there, or I might not. But Nat, you and me will always be sisters” I told her earnestly. She sniffed and smiled and pulled me into her for a firm hug.
“I love you sis” she whispered. I chuckled softly and squeezed her tight.
“I love you back” I said and pulled myself from her vice like grip. She may be a little pissed at me right now, but Nat is Nat. I will love her always, no matter what.
