Twin Moon - Chapter 295 - Underestimated
Whiskey.
Tobias hit the deck like a sack of shit. A pulling sensation tugged at my heart. Like the shriveled piece of brown beef thumping in my chest was going to suddenly come to life and feel something for the big dumb oaf. Yeah right. Once he was down, the fighters that he waved away all charged at me in unison. Some shifted into their beasts, others tempted fate on their human legs. It didn’t really matter either way. They were all going to die by my hand one way or the other.
I cut each of them down easily, and all the others that tried their luck with me. It appears these animals are just as dumb as all the other stupid dogs that I’ve fought. Never learning where they lay on the food chain. Never realising that they’re doomed from the moment they decide to fight against me. They’re all the same. Single minded, foolish animals. The fight had us slowly moving through the village, leaving a breadcrumb trail of bodies along the way. They just kept coming, one after the other. I was surprised that they didn’t attack in one single wave. That's what all the other packs have done. It made it so much easier to kill them all in one fell swoop. This tactic though, the constant drip, drip, drip of fighters, it’s becoming annoying. It's not that I'm tired. I don’t get tired. But I want to find Zelena. These fucking mongrels are slowing me down.
I swung my arm up and let the blade of the axe tear open the stomach of the dog that just jumped for me. It yelped and dropped to my feet. I looked down at it as it tried to drag its body away, leaving a trail of blood and guts behind it. I lifted the axe to my face and inspected the blade. It's no Sao blade, that’s for sure. But I'm really starting to like this little beast of a weapon. I may have to look into hatchets in the future. A shiver ran up my spine and the air pressure changed, it felt heavy. That wasn’t done by me, I've been keeping the air thin. Taking their oxygen makes the big dumb animals slower, weaker, and more sloppy with their movements. I looked around at the few wolves that were left. Not many of them now, and their numbers a shrinking by the minute. As I scanned the semi-circle I had made myself, I caught sight of a figure standing at the edge of the barn. Excitement bubbled in my stomach at her furious expression. The thumping of feet on the dirt made me aware of another incoming attack. I turned quickly, just in time to catch the small wolf by the neck before it landed on top of me. I flashed my teeth and jerked my fingers and wrist. Once I felt the crunching of its neck under my grip, I tossed the wolf back across the clearing. I turned back on Zelena, who was watching where I threw the dog. The pathetic look of concern on her face proved to me how weak she was. She was scared, scared for that stupid mutt, scared for herself. Her fear surrounded her. Ending her life will bring me so much pleasure. The thought alone brought a smile to my face.
I could feel the excitement in me building. The unquenchable thirst for her blood. The insatiable hunger, the uncontrollable rage. All for her. The Bitch. My ‘sister’. The air around me grew thick as the power grew. I could feel the coldness slithering along my skin. It only worked to increase my hunger.
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted movement. A slow and fat little dog was trying to sneak up on me. Tsk, tsk, tsk. So stupid. I glowered at Zelena, mentally begging her to charge at me, to begin this fight that I am so desperately excited for. The fear in her eyes was overflowing. She pulled her hand from Gunner’s and stepped toward me. I followed along and made the same move. Gunner’s body flinched, drawing my eye to his. He seemed to be flexing or tensing, or something. The air around me fell still and the sounds of the forest, the cries of pain, and the scent of fear all but vanished. I zeroed in my gaze on Gunner, this was his doing, his magic. I shifted my burning gaze to Zelena and licked my lips. Come on little bitch, let’s do this. Her eyes shifted to my right, the same direction that the fat dog was approaching from. The thumping of paws on dirt came next. They never learn. As the sound grew louder, I swung my arm out, letting the blade of the axe slice across the dog's body. It yelped in pain, letting me know I got it good. Without wasting another moment, I spun on the ball of my foot, swinging out with the axe once again. As my body turned, the axe lodged into the neck of the falling wolf. The power of the blow just about cut the dog's head clean off, an image that brought another satisfied smile to my face.
A scream filled the air and the ground shook beneath my feet. I was hit by what felt like a wave of water. I turned away and covered my head with my arm. The pressure of it was intense, unlike anything I could describe. When Zelena’s angry voice filled the air, filled with so much pain and anger, I turned slowly to gaze upon her once again. As my eyes met hers, and I caught those pitiful tears brimming along her golden glare, I couldn’t help but laugh. She is nothing. Crying over a dog. Showing her pain so openly, for all to see plain as day. She is weak. Why was everyone so afraid of her? All those years I spent learning and training. All the punishments that I endured, just to prepare me for what? This? Her? It all just seems like a waste now. Zelena could cut off one of my legs and stab out one of my eyes and I will still destroy her without fail. It would be as easy as scratching my own arse.
Before I knew it, I was laughing. I was laughing harder than I ever had before. Just thinking about my wasted life, about how simple it will be to kill her, the famed Triple Goddess. Such a disappointment.
“You!” I huffed out between laughs. Her! She is meant to be the pinnacle of my mission. Killing her is meant to be the great finale of my life.
“You’re the best they have. You’re the one that’s going to stop me?” I wheezed as I looked around me. Surely this has to be some kind of cosmic joke. There has to be more to it than this. It's too easy.
“Stop this now” the bitch screamed. She may be a quick and easy kill, but it won't make it any less enjoyable for me.
“Or what?” I snarled. What could this pathetic tick possibly do to me.
“What are you going to do, dear sister? You think you can stop me, you think you can beat me? Do you want to give it a go?” I teased her, seeing if she was dumb enough to take the bait. She was hesitating. But she wants to, I can see it on her face. Her eyes darted around the clearing before coming back to mine. Her expression changed then. She’s made up her mind, she’s going for it.
Her arms lifted, outstretched toward me, and it was like she had an invisible hold on my body. My arms and legs were pinned and unable to move. I lifted off the grown as I pushed and pulled at my limbs. This is just what Gunner did to me, the invisible force field. So, they share a power. I wasn’t able to free myself from Gunner’s, so if they truly are the same, wasting my energy now would be pointless. I eyed the happy couple as they approached me. I wonder if Gunner was gifted his own powers, like Zelena and I, or does he tap into hers somehow? Curious. Gunner was right at her back, staying close. But he was not focused on us, he seemed to be off in his own little world.
“I underestimated you” I whispered. Fuck, I didn’t mean to say that out loud. I forced a smile and pushed again at the pressure keeping me captive. My legs moved, my arms too. Only slightly, but I can move them, so maybe the all-powerful princess isn’t all she’s cracked up to be. A flash of fear passed through Zelena’s eyes, and I knew I had her then. I pulled all my power forward and threw my arms free with a great gust of wind. The force of my power sent both Zelena and Gunner flying off in different directions. Zelena’s hold on me fell and I dropped back to the ground, landing effortlessly on my feet. Gunner was quick to recover, turning on me with his teeth and claws ready. I prepared myself to charge for him when Zelena’s movements caught my eye. A shiver of icy coldness slipped over me, and I was suddenly filled with power and energy once again. The black smoke curled around my body, leaving that trail of frost that I love to feel. I felt the jagged edges and frosty texture of the new weapon in my hand. I don’t know how I summoned it, but it sure feels right.
