Twin Moon - Chapter 247 - He Came Back To Me

Zelena.

As soon as the name left Daniel’s mouth, I flew from the room at lightning speed. My feet barely touched the ground as I ran through the house. A stampede of footsteps thundered closely after me. I ran out the front door and all the way around the building to the driveway, not stopping or pausing for anything. I saw the SUV parked in the middle of the drive, bugs were splattered across the front grill and up along the wheel arch and fenders. He must have been driving through the night. I strained my eyes to peer through the dark tinted glass. My heart tightened and I gasped. There he is. His hair had grown, and he had a short beard now, but it was definitely Gunner. Tears fell from my eyes as I looked over his figure in the car. He was looking down at the passenger seat, but slowly lifted his head. His eyes connected with mine, and a whimper burst from my lips. He's here, he’s really here. He came back to me.
He didn’t move from his seat, not at first, he just sat there staring at me through the windscreen. I smiled and half laughed, half sobbed. I lifted my arm to wave to him, like the awkward idiot I am. In a blink, the car door was flung open, and his large frame was running full speed toward me. I reached my arms out for him and tried to run, but I was so overcome with emotions, my legs gave out from under me before I could even take the first step. Gunner’s strong arms wrapped around me as I dropped. He caught me easily and pulled me into his body. I wrapped my arms around his waist and squeezed tight, just to be sure he was real. He is so warm and firm, and just large. I've missed having him in my arms.
“Zelena” Gunner whispered as he nuzzled his face into the top of my head. I could feel him breathing me in, becoming familiar with my scent again. I lifted my head to look at him, his bright blue eyes looked back down at me.
“I missed you” I sobbed with a smile. Gunner wiped his fingers over the tears on my cheek and smiled back at me,
“I missed you more” he said sweetly. I was lost in his gaze, making up for lost time. I couldn’t see a hint of black anywhere in the startling blue. Without warning, Gunner grabbed me from under my arms and lifted me into the air, holding me high above his head. He spun us around quickly, making my long loose hair flutter around my face. I laughed out loud with joy and excitement. Gunner, my Gunner, was finally home. Back in my arms where he belongs.
Sparks of electricity danced across my skin, just like they have always done when Gunner touched me. Overwhelming happiness flooded my brain as I looked down at his beautiful face. Gunner’s face was split in two with the largest smile I had ever seen on him. The depths of his eyes sparkled with all the love that I remember they held. He pulled me into him once again, and I wrapped my legs around his waist. He grabbed my face and smashed his lips to mine. I curled my arms around his neck, determined to never let him go again. My face was wet with tears, and they dripped onto our lips as I kissed him feverishly. His hands moved up and down my back as I rolled my tongue with his. I moaned happily into his mouth as the sparks sent shivers down my spine. Gunner paused and pulled his face away from mine. I pouted and he chuckled, then he looked down at my now flat stomach. He held my back with one hand and placed the other on my belly.
“The pup?” he asked urgently. I smiled and cupped his face. I pressed my lips to his, and held them there for a moment. Then did it again and again, moving my lips all over his face, smothering him in kisses. I leaned my forehead against his and sighed with happiness.
“The pup’s fine” I told him in a whisper. He exhaled with a long breath of relief. He moved his hand to cup my cheek and wiped the tears away.
“Thank the Goddess” he huffed. I chuckled to myself and he pulled his head away to look at me with a raised eyebrow.
“More than you know” I smiled mischievously. Oh boy, he is in for a big surprise. He went to ask me something, but I held my finger over his lips, to cut him off. He sucked my finger into his mouth and nipped at it with a playful growl. Oh Goddess, have I missed him. I giggled and flicked his nose before quickly pulling my hand away.
“Do you want to come and see?” I asked and looked into his brilliant blue eyes. My word, I have missed those eyes. I don’t want to go another day without gazing into these beautiful eyes.
“Heck Yeah” he exclaimed. He pulled me into him for a tight hug, and I pressed my face into the crook of his neck. I took a deep breath, inhaling his delicious scent. Warm sunshine, forest leaves and love. Everything I remember him smelling like. But there was something else too, something I couldn’t place, but it felt very familiar.
“Gunner, my baby boy” Roe cooed loudly with a soft sob, as she came running over. I stayed in Gunner's hold as he greeted his parents, I wasn’t ready to let him go just yet. And I don’t think either of them would mind.
“Hi Mum” Gunner said back cheerfully. One of his hands disappeared from my back, and I felt Roe squeeze herself in next to me for a hug of her own.
“You’ve missed so much” she told him, as she rubbed her small hand in a circle on my back.
“I don’t doubt it” he scoffed with an amused chuckle,
“Son” Lupus rumbled. He grabbed Gunner by the back of his neck and pulled his head forward to press their foreheads together, I lifted my head slightly and watched as they embraced each other. I have been selfish in my own grief at his absence. I didn’t give enough thought to everyone else that would have been missing him as much as I was.
“Hey Dad” Gunner said back with a wide smile, once they separated,
“We’re happy you’re home, my boy” Lupus smiled and tapped Gunner’s cheek lightly. Something I've seen him do often.
“Me too. Hi everyone. Sis, Smith, Lunaya” he said to everyone that had been in the hall with me just a few minutes ago. Everyone except Tobias, he must still be inside with the twins.
“Come inside and meet your pup” I said excitedly and jumped out of his hold. I smiled brightly up at him and then winked at Roe. I took Gunner’s hand and went to pull him towards the house. He resisted and pulled me back, I flung around and looked up at him with a frown. I thought he would be running for the house to see his pup. Is he not excited?
“First I have to tell you something” he said cautiously. My stomach dropped and I felt sick.
“What? What happened, did you lose your wolf, did something happen, what is it?” I demanded urgently. He smiled softly and ran his thumb over my quivering bottom lip.
“Nothing like that my love. My wolf is fine, the darkness is gone” he said with a smile. The tears started again and I threw myself into his arms.
“You did it” I cheered through my happy sobs.
“I did” he said back.
“I knew you would” Roe murmured sweetly,
“I didn’t have a single doubt” Lupus bellowed proudly. I could hear the others behind me muttering happily amongst themselves.
“Come on then, I have something I need to show you” I told him eagerly and tried to pull him by the hand again,
“Wait, I haven’t told you my news yet” he said and pulled me back.
“Can it wait, this is important” I said with a frown,
“She’s not wrong” Lupus chuckled,
“So is this” Gunner said firmly. I was getting frustrated, what could possibly be more important than meeting his pups for the first time?
“What?” I grunted annoyed. He looked over his shoulder to the car, just as I heard one of the doors open. Who else was in the car with him, I didn’t see anyone else.
