The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 55 - Training

Zelena.

I reached my arm behind me but there was nothing there. I pushed myself up and looked at the other side of the bed, no Gunner. The slit in the curtains revealed the sun was only just starting to light the sky. Gunner was gone already, gone to get my father. The thought sent a lump to my throat and a pain to my stomach. Oh god, my father. I slumped my face back into the pillow and groaned loudly. I really hope he can tell us something about my mum or about me. Any info on this goddess thing will be accepted.
Wait, I flew up on the bed. Training with Artemis today. Why am I excited by that? I mean it could turn out to be the one thing in my life that I can actually control, right? Considering my hormones, my species, my unknown past and basically my entire future are all out of my control. I could maybe have just this one thing.
I sat up on the bed and swung my legs over the side. As I let my legs hang there, I closed my eyes and listened to my body. It felt tired and weak, another night of sexapades with Gunner had taken its toll. But I just can't help myself around him, his body is too seductive. Everything about him is irresistible to me. From the way he smells, to the way my skin prickles when he touches me. My body aches for him when he's not around and my mind is clouded by constant visions of him. A small hot throb sounded in my core as I pictured Gunner in my head.
I’m not going to shower this morning, I want to be able to smell him on my skin all day. I pulled on a pair of jeans and a navy blue top that clung just a little too tight for my liking. I’ve put on a little extra weight from Gunner and Roe constantly over feeding me. I have a bit more of a curve to my hips now and my breast were filling out a little. I like it.
I slipped on my boots and made my way down to the kitchen for breakfast. As I walked through the door, I got a nose full of bacon and my mouth began to salivate immediately.
“Good morning my sweet girl” Roe cooed,
“Good morning” I smiled at her as I reached for the tray of bacon and pulled it close to me. She turned around and leaned against the counter, watching me intently.
“Big day for you, love” she said softly,
“Mhm” I hummed with a mouth full of bacon.
“Are you nervous, about training your gifts?”
I shook my head and tried to speak but a piece of bacon fell out of my mouth, Roe laughed. I swallowed my food and smiled at her.
“No, I’m not nervous. Actually, a little excited” I said with a little bit too much cheer in my tone.
“Well, good. Just take it easy sweet thing, don’t push yourself”
“I won’t, promise”.
Roe stepped forward and cupped my cheek. She looked at me adoringly, the kind of way I imagine a mother would look upon her daughter. It sent a warm feeling spreading through my body, I felt loved. I smiled fondly at her for a moment and then looked away, growing a little uncomfortable with the prolonged show of affection.
“Well, I’m off” I said standing up,
“Okay darling be careful” Roe cooed as she turned back to the sink.
I headed out the front door and down the porch steps. The morning air was still fresh but was warming up quickly. A few pack members were wandering around the village, they nodded and smiled and greeted me as I passed them. Artemis lived in a small wooded cabin at the very far corner of the clearing, away from the rest of the pack. His cabin was shaded by a large tree and had vines crawling up the walls, bright wildflowers grew at the front. Depending on the way you look at it, it could either be a magical cabin lost in the woods or a haunted witch’s home. As I stood staring at the little wooden house my nerves started to grow and butterflies took up flight in my stomach. I heard a snapping twig behind me. I whipped around and found Smith with his hands up in surrender.
“Hey killer, it’s just me” he chuckled,
“Hey Smith” I breathed out with a half-smile,
“You scared me”
“Aw, I’m not that ugly, am I?” he said with a over exaggerated pout. I giggled softly and a blush burned across my cheeks. He knows all too well that he is stunning. He stood up a little taller and he pushed his chest out slightly at my reaction.
“Well, let’s see what you’re made of” he chuffed as he walked to the door of the cabin and knocked loudly.
“Come in” Artemis called out. Smith pushed the door open and motioned for me to go in. I hesitated for a second but walked through the door with Smith closing it behind me. It was dark inside and smelled of moss and wet leaves. The walls were covered with flowers and what looked like herbs. There were a lot of small plants scattered around the floor. Artemis stood before me and bowed holding his hand out in front of him.
“My Goddess” he whispered. Smith looked at me with his eyes wide and mouth pulled down.
“Hi Artemis, shall we get started?” I said uncomfortably,
“Yes, my Goddess” he turned around and stood up straight a walked to a rug laid in the middle of the floor. He motioned me over and sat down on a pillow crossing his legs, I followed his lead. Between us sat a large silver bowl. I looked around the cabin again, noticing small statues of heavenly bodies and wooden wolf carvings. Some looked kind of old and tribal, others looked beautiful, almost regal.
“My Goddess” he snapped me back to attention.
“Please, could you call me Zelena?”
He pursed his lip into a straight line and his eyebrows frowned together.
“Or not, that’s fine” I quickly rushed out and his face relaxed slightly. He stared at me blankly, not saying a word. I burned under his intense gaze, like he was trying to see into my soul.
“Sooo, what now?” I said slowly trying to break the silence.
“First close eyes and relax, take big breaths” I did as I was told closing my eyes and breathing deeply, but the relaxing part was hard, I could still feel his eyes on me.
“Relax now” Artemis snapped. I opened one eye and glared at him.
“I’m not going to relax with you snapping at me” I said coldly, he was visibly embarrassed and turned his eyes away from me. I took a few deep breaths and kind of let my body relax, like I was melting into the floor.
“Good” Artemis whispered,
“Now you listen to me, only my sound. Keep big breaths and think of moon”.
I pictured the moon in my mind, its shape and colour. I saw its pale shape sitting in the clear blue sky during the daylight. Then I pictured the moon in the night sky, surrounded by stars. I saw the light that it brings and could feel the glow on my skin. A flush of light air blew over my body, I felt weightless and peaceful.
Feeling completely relaxed I sat waiting for Artemis to tell me what to do next, but he was silent. I opened one of my eyes but he was no longer in front of me. I opened my other eye and immediately realised I was no longer sitting in front of Artemis, I was now floating above him. He and Smith were staring at me, gobsmacked. All I could do was blurt out a shocked laugh and I fell to the floor landing hard on my hip. I turned to Smith ecstatic and proud.
“Did you see that?” I screeched at him,
“Pretty hard not to see” he said with raised eyebrows. I turned back to Artemis with a huge grin.
“What’s next?” He breathed heavily as he stared at me, quickly shaking his head to focus again. He reached behind him and placed a rock in the bowl.
“You lift rock”
“Ah okay, I lift the rock” I paused,
“How do I lift the rock?”
“What did you think before? When you float”
“I was thinking about the moon and its light in the night sky”
“Okay, then think of moon. Moon is mother, she guide you”.
I looked down at the rock and focused on it the best I could. I thought about what the rock would feel like in my hand, if it was cold to touch or warm. Then I started I wondered if this rock were like the rocks on the moon, would they be similar in any way?
The rock slowly began to lift out of the bowl, rotating in mid-air. My excitement grew as I watched the rock rise. A smile took over my face and my heart began to race. The rock started to spin faster until it suddenly flew upwards breaking through the roof of the cabin and off into the sky.
“What the?” I stuttered as I looked at the small hole that the rock created. I looked back at Artemis with an apologetic smile. He was staring at me intently, taking in my face and studying my expression.
“S-sorry” I mumbled.
“You let emotion take over, rock fly away. You stay balanced and calm, rock obey” he said firmly, not taking his eyes off me. His accent was at times hard to understand but his point always managed to get across.
“Again” Artemis said placing another rock in front of me. This rock was small and round with a greyish white colour. It instantly reminded me of the moon. The rock lifted out of the bowl easily as I looked it over. Twirling in the air it moved closer to my face, as I moved my eyes slowly around the room, the little white rock followed. As I felt my excitement grow the little rock jerked a bit. I breathed deeply and relaxed my mind and the rock continued to glide through the air smoothly. Without thinking about it I lifted my hand out in front of me and the rock slowly came to rest in the palm of my hand. I looked up at Artemis again and this time his expression had changed. His face had softened and I could tell he was trying to suppress a smile.
“Very good my Goddess, you have this” he lifted his hands to his head and then shot it around in front of him,
“You move with mind”
“Telekinesis” Smith chimed in from behind me. I had forgotten he was there, I didn’t know he could go this long without talking.
“Yes” Artemis nodded.
“But I thought my powers were related to gravity?” I questioned tilting my head to the side.
“Yes, that too, you use two together”
“I have two powers?”
“Yes Goddess, maybe more, don’t know yet”
“We think she has the Dragons Eye as well” Smith chimed in again.
“Drakos-Mati” Artemis asked, moving his eyes to Smith. Smith nodded his confirmation.
“Very good, very strong and very power, lots of power” Artemis nodded, struggling through his broken English.
I sat up a little straighter, maybe a little too excited by this revelation. Two powers, maybe three, that we know of. This is kind of amazing, I never would have imagined m life going down this path. I slipped the little white rock into my back pocket, I want to keep it as a memento.
