Mother of the Moon - Chapter 122 - Arriving

Lunaya.

Sleep was near impossible, I think I may have drifted off for a total of two hours. The anticipation of the day to come was too much for my brain to handle. The things that Astéri was saying, the things that she said she did and was able to do. Only one other daughter has ever had that much power before, and that was Selena, the first daughter. My mind was alive with the possibilities, the potential that she could have. There is still so much that I don’t know but there is definitely a lot that I could teach her. If she accepts me. If she allows me to teach her, a whole new world of power could be opened up for her.
We didn’t leave Lua Chei until after ten in the morning. A fact that annoyed me more than I care to mention. As much as I wanted to yell and scream and stomp my feet, I held my tongue. Astéri and her daughter are already doing us a great favour by helping us get into Tri-Moon, I couldn’t risk angering them, not when I’m this close.
We’ve been on the road for roughly eight hours and we’re nearing the border. With each kilometre that we get closer, I get more anxious. Alyse sat with my hand in her lap, stroking her fingers across my skin. She could feel my nervousness. I think at this point it was noticeable to everyone in this car. Which was Alyse and I in the back seat, Elaine and Analah in the front. The other three were in the car in behind us.
I wound down the window, hoping that some fresh air would make me feel a little better. The sun had long set at this point, so I couldn’t see much, especially while we were driving. The air flowing through the window had a hint of sea salt mixed with pine and wet earth. It was a relaxing scent. Full of nature and wildness. The car began to slow down, by a lot. We hadn’t passed a town yet, a few farms yes, but we hadn’t reached a town. Which must mean the pack live on the outskirts or further out.
I pulled my head away from the window and looked between the front seats and through the windscreen. About eight men stood across the road, blocking the path of the car. Elaine stopped about twenty meters away from them. I sniffed at the air from the window, they’re Weres. The border patrol. Security measures. As we sat in the car watching the men on the road, a few wolves ran up alongside them. With more off in the tree line. One of the wolves changed form, right there out in the open. But if I can smell them, I imagine they smell us too. The man that changed pulled on a pair of loose short and stepped closer to the cars. He waved at us to get out.
“Exit the vehicles” his firm voice demanded. We did as we were asked. Elaine and Analah in front with Alyse and I behind them. I felt Cleo come up behind me, with Venus and Phoebe on either side of her.
“State your business” the Were called. I looked the man over, as he stepped towards us, a few of his men flanking him. He has a tall build with long arms and legs, taunt muscles flexed on his chest and stomach as he walked. His light brown hair hung shaggily over his forehead and his eyes were dark. Not in colour but like he was holding something dark behind them. He is a young one, still a teenager, early twenties at the most. But the aura of power he emanated was obvious. Beta.
“I am Analah, Alpha-daughter to Alpha Ambrose of Lua Chei. We were invited to the festivities tonight” Analah announced taking a small step forward, Elaine matched her step, not letting her go alone or appear to be the leader.
“Alpha Ambrose and his Luna were invited, and Alpha Ambrose has already arrived. He said nothing of his daughter coming, or any others” he called eyeing each of us carefully, his eyes landed on me for longer than I liked.
“So, give me a reason why I shouldn’t kill you where you stand?” he growled, turning his eyes back to Analah.
“My father has been notified of my arrival and is on his way to the boarder to confirm our identities” Analah replied, maintaining a perfectly authoritative tone.
“That may be so, but I doubt that you are all daughters of Alpha Ambrose. Now I ask you again, state your business here”.
This time Elaine stepped forward, Phoebe quickly went to stand at her side. The rest of us shuffled closer as well, trying to remain inconspicuous.
“I am Beta Elaine of Luna Eclipse. We have come to offer our greetings to the newly risen Goddess” she called out loudly, loud enough for all of the Weres gathered to hear. I guess Luna Eclipse aren’t so worried about staying hidden away from the world anymore. The young Were stilled, I could see the surprise on his face. But a look of recognition settled in his eyes. He knows about them, maybe he was told stories as a kid, but he definitely knows something.
“If it weren’t for your tattoo, I would be inclined to call you a liar. Do you have proof of this impossible claim?”
“Only this” Elaine said as she pulled an envelope from her back pocket. She held it out in front of her, for the Were to take. He walked forward until he stood right in front of Elaine. He is a tall kid but Elaine is still bigger. He took the letter and opened it, pulling out a piece of paper.
We stood quietly as he read over the letter. I looked over the young man, his youth was more present in this close proximity. Fresh face and untouched skin makes him appear innocent, just a greenhorn. But his eyes told a different story. His eyes held pain and anguish. There is so much darkness hidden behind his firm glare. A shiver ran up my spine and my skin broke out in goosebumps. Something strange hung in the air. A spark, a heaviness. An energy. I could feel the electricity run over my body. No one else seemed to notice, except Alyse, she noticed the change in me.
***What is it?***
***I’m not sure, I think something is happening***
***What kind of something?***
***I don’t know, I can just feel something strange***
***Like a bad feeling?***
***No nothing like that, it’s an energy in the air***
***I don’t feel anything***
***I think it’s her, my child***
***You really think so?***
***I do. Something is going down ***
***Like what?***
***There is magic in the air. The Goddess is around us***
Alyse gasped audibly, catching the attention of Cleo. I looked around in the air. There is definitely something going on, some kind of force or power. A small breeze ruffled the tress and swirled across the road. It curled its way around my legs and up over my chest and neck. A soft whispered voice kissed at my ear, so quiet I almost didn’t hear it. ‘Our daughter’. My heart jumped and my stomach fell to the ground. That voice, that angelic celestial voice. It can only belong to one being. The Moon Goddess. She is here, and she is calling me forward.
“She’s here” I whispered out loud. Elaine snapped her head back to me, her eyebrow raised.
“Nae” Alyse called softly, stroking my face.
“She’s here, I feel her”.
The man lifted his head from the letter and gazed at me curiously. He let his eyes travel to Alyse who was watching me intently, still stroking my face and trying to comfort me.
“Who’s here?” he ask, no he demanded.
“My child” I answered him without hesitation.
“And who might that be?” he questioned turning his body to me and crossing his arms across his chest.
“The Triple Goddess” I said firmly, not backing down from his gaze. This boy doesn’t scare me, not in the face of my daughter. He huffed and barked out a contemptuous laugh.
“Fuck off” he spat pushing the letter back into Elaine’s chest.
“You won’t keep me from her. I can feel her, through the trees. She’s calling to me” I growled stepping forward, now only inches from the boy.
“I said, fuck off. Her parents are dead, so go spin your bullshit somewhere else”
“Who told you that?” I demanded, my voice raising in power and volume.
“The one who raised her” he answered glaring into my eyes.
“They were wrong. I am right here”
“Tell me her name, her hair colour, her eye colour. Tell me anything about your supposed child”.
My lips curled back over my teeth and my claws pushed at the tips of my fingers. A growl ripped from my throat as my anger burst forward.
“Lunaya, be calm” Elaine barked at me but I ignored her.
“My child was stolen by hunters as a babe, I would assume her looks have changed since then, unless you’re telling me the Triple Goddess is an infant. Even her birth name may have been thrown away for all I know. I will see my daughter and you won’t stop me. If I have to fight my way to her, then it is a fight you will get”.
