Twin Moon - Chapter 283 - Run Away
Zelena.
I laid on top of the bed, unable to sleep. The soft and steady breathing of the twins was enough to keep me calm, but not enough to soothe my racing mind. Too many questions and so much uncertainty. What happened to Tobias, why was he lying to me? Where did Whiskey go, and when will she be back? Who or what is behind Alpha Doyle’s visit? Why does everyone seem so afraid that he is a half-breed but not that Alyse is? Is it possible that nobody knows Alyse is a half-breed? No, that can’t be right. I saw her, which means others did too. Does Whiskey remember everything now, is that why she left? When will Gunner be finished with Doyle? What is up with Tobias? Now I'm just going in circles. I need to get up and do something, I can’t keep torturing myself like this.
I pushed myself up and climbed out of the bed. I grabbed the baby monitor and went to the door. I swung it open slowly and looked over at the twins as I stepped out into the hallway, being careful not to wake them. As I turned around, I smacked face first into Gunner’s chest.
“Shit” I whispered yelled,
“Why does everyone need to stand so damned close to me. I'm going to break my fucking nose one of these days” I cursed quietly as I rubbed my nose.
“Babe, I'm sorry, I didn’t mean to” Gunner rushed out apologetically. He leaned down so that we were at eye level and watched me rub my nose with a worried expression.
“It’s fine” I grunted. He studied me for a moment before standing up straight again. He held onto my shoulders and leaned back slightly.
“What’s going on, you’re a mess of emotions right now” he said accusingly. I frowned and pushed his hands away.
“Am I not allowed to feel now?” I snapped, perhaps a little too harshly. Gunner seemed surprised at my outburst, as he watched me with wide eyes.
“Of course you are. I just want to make sure you’re okay” he said softly. Fuck, I hurt his feelings.
“Sorry” I grumbled half-heartedly,
“I just don’t know what's going on right now” I said looking up at him. He stepped forward and placed his hands on my hips. He pushed himself into me and kissed the top of my head.
“I’m sorry too” he said with a deep breath.
“It’s hard to breathe sometimes with all this going on. It's like there is never a break in the drama” Gunner said with an exasperated tone.
“We’ll get through it” I said as I pushed him back a little so that I could see his face. He smiled down at me softly,
“Together?” he said while staring into my eyes,
“Together” I agreed. Gunner leaned down and pressed his lips gently to mine. Before he got the chance to move away, I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him in place. He got the idea and leaned himself into my body. I pressed against the wall with Gunner's heated body flush up against mine. I moaned softly as I rolled my tongue with his, deepening the kiss. All the worries and the unanswered questions disappeared, if only for a few moments. Gunner grabbed the back of my thighs and lifted me off the floor. I wrapped my legs around his waist and arched my back. Gunner growled lowly as he pushed his tongue into my mouth. Gunner’s hands grabbed my butt firmly, while my fingers twisted into his hair. We were locked together in this heated kiss, nothing else mattered in that moment. But we can’t escape reality for too long. I moved my head away and sighed as Gunner peppered kisses down my neck.
“Why’d you come up here?” I asked. Though I could be tempted to keep ignoring it for a little while longer. Gunner grunted and kissed my neck back up to my chin.
“Just a little longer” he mumbled into my sensitive skin. It seems that he too wants to escape the drama for a little while longer. I chuckled as he hit a ticklish spot under my ear lobe. Gunner growled playfully and sucked my lobe into his mouth, teasing it with his teeth.
“Gunner” I giggled and pulled my head away from his delicious lips. He sighed dramatically and leaned his head against my forehead.
“Let's run away. You, me, and the twins. We can leave all the mess behind and live on the land, wild and free” he said with a grin,
“Make our own little tribe?” I teased joining in,
“Oh my love, you doubt my abilities. We’d make our own little town” he said as he licked my bottom lip and growled.
“Yeah right” I laughed,
“And will you be birthing all these town residents?” I asked pointedly. The joyful look disappeared from his face and a sad one took its place.
“I’m sorry I missed it” he said solemnly.
“Missed what?”
“The birth of our pups”
“Oh, Gunner, it wasn’t your fault”
“But it is. I'll never be able to get that moment back”.
I moved my hands to cup his cheeks and kissed him softly. I had completely forgotten about my own sadness at Gunner missing the birth of the twins. The moment he returned home it all became a nonissue. I never really stopped long enough to think if he was doing okay with it. So much has happened since he got home, that I haven’t even been able to ask him about it. I've neglected him, again. I sighed and pulled away from his tender kiss and leaned my forehead on his.
“There’ll be more opportunities, I have no doubt” I smiled sweetly and pecked his lips just once more.
“I love you, so damn much” Gunner chuffed as he slowly let me down.
“I love you more” I quipped back.
“Impossible” he said with a smile and pulled me into his body for a tight hug. I enjoy being in his arms, smelling his scent, and hearing his heartbeat. I could stay here forever. But reality will soon come back to grab us from our little love bubble.
“What happened with Doyle, did he tell you why he came here?” I asked, which immediately soured the mood. Gunner stepped out of the hug and frowned,
“Yes, but also no. Doesn't matter, I don’t believe him for a second” he grumbled angrily.
“Is your mum finished with the survivor?” I asked quickly, moving on to my next bunch of curiosities. Gunner’s eyes hardened and he squeezed my hip.
“Yes, that’s why I came to get you” he said firmly.
“Oh, it’s not good, is it?”
“I don’t think so”
“Well, my sexy Alpha, let’s go find out then” I said as I took his hand.
“After you, my beautiful Luna” he chipped back. As I stepped in front of him to walk down the hallway, a loud slap echoed through the space.
“Ouch!” I screeched as I grabbed my backside and turn on Gunner with a frown,
“To be continued” he said with a wink.
“You’re insatiable” I mumbled to myself as I rubbed my butt cheek and stomped down the stairs. I veered left to go straight for the living room, expecting that is where Roe would be.
“This way” Gunner said, taking my hand and leading me to the hall. Why would we be being to the hall? That's used for serious stuff, official type stuff. I thought we were just talking to Roe about what she learned from the survivor. The moment we walked through the door, I felt the tension wash over me. The head of the table was left clear for Gunner, the seat at his left for me. Smith was already waiting in the seat at the right of Gunner, with Lupus next to him. Smith must be stepping up more for his Beta role. I know he had been having a hard time taking it on. He had been letting Lupus take on a lot of the Beta duties, maybe because he knew what it entailed. Smith was never trained as a Beta. That was destined for Cole. I was happy to see Felix in the room, I've always liked Felix. Daniel was here too, the new Delta. Along with Lunaya, Alyse, Elaine, and one of our commanders. No Tobias though, which is unusual.
Gunner pulled out my chair and I slowly sat down while staring at all the waiting faces. Gunner sat down and immediately pulled my hand onto his lap.
“You asked for this gathering, why are we here?” Gunner’s voice called, dripping with authority and roughness. Roe stood up and Lupus gently patted her hip in a show of support.
“I’ve gotten the Russian Were to tell me some info about the attack on his pack” she said softly. Her eyes flicked over to mine briefly before she dropped them again. I didn’t miss the glimmer of fear she was hiding in there though.
“And, what did he tell you?” Gunner asked, this time his voice sounding much more gentle.
“He said a monster came, the Besomar, and it killed everyone” Roe said, still not lifting her eyes.
“Besomar?” I asked,
“That’s what he called me when Doyle brought him in”.
“Yes” Roe nodded.
“What is a Besomar?” Felix asked from across the table.
“It’s like a demon” Roe choked a little on the word ‘demon’.
“He thinks a demon attacked his home?” Gunner scoffed.
“Besomar is an evil spirit. It is said that the person or animal that Besomar possesses, is no longer themself, but a vessel of pure evil. Besomar is the strongest, and can cause the most chaos, out of all other evil spirits combined” Roe said in all seriousness. Daniel snorted and quickly covered his mouth with his hand. Roe, Lupus and Gunner all glared at him at the same time.
“I’m sorry” he coughed as he swallowed his laugh,
“We’re telling ghost stories now? You can’t be serious” he exclaimed sarcastically. His tone and face were smothered in animosity and disbelief.
“I know I'm still new to all this, but weren’t True Mates considered to be a myth as well?” I asked while eyeing Daniel. His expression changed and he frowned slightly.
“That’s different” he grumbled and turned away.
