Mother of the Moon - Chapter 180 - Mother?
Zelena.
Gunner’s large arms held me tightly. Soothing me. The warm skin of his chest pressed against my wet cheek, and I found myself nuzzling into him. I was rubbing my face against him like an affectionate cat. Gunner kissed the top of my head and then moved to my forehead, and cheek, corner of my mouth and neck. His tongue ran over the puncture wounds on my neck, cleaning the skin of my blood. Then he continued with his soft kisses, over my collarbone and chest. His lips moved down my body until he was on his knees in front of me. His ear pressed against my stomach as his large hands cupped my lower abdomen. I ran my hands slowly through his hair as he listened to his pup.
“You have a bump” he said softly and turned to press his forehead to my stomach, being careful to avoid the open wounds from Galterio’s claws.
“I can’t have a bump, it’s only been a couple of weeks” I chuckled,
“Women don’t start to show until they’re like three months or something” I told him. He looked up and smirked at me.
“Not Weres my love. A she-wolf's pregnancy only lasts three months”. My heart stopped and I thought I was going to chuck. Three months? He can’t be serious. How am I meant to get myself ready for parenthood in just three months? Well less than that now.
“Are you joking?” I asked dumbly,
“Not at all” he smiled and kissed my belly. He gently ran his tongue over the ripped flesh of my stomach. I was about to argue, thinking it was gross. But the second his tongue made contact with the wound, I felt soft tingles. Like little bubbles popping around the bloody flesh. What is this? I watched as Gunner swiped his tongue carefully over each wound. And unlike anything I had ever seen before, it looked like they were healing magically. The skin became less red and inflamed, and the large holes seemed to shrink.
“How did you do that?” I asked him, astounded,
“I helped heal you. Your body is working hard growing and protecting our pup, so your healing ability has slowed. I just gave you a boost” he said, like it was totally obvious. He gently pressed his lips to my stomach before he stood up again.
“All this time, that’s why I was feeling so crazy” he laughed to himself with a shake of his head.
“What are you talking about?” I snapped, sounding slightly harsher than I intended.
“I’ve been so wild, so possessive and dominant”
“I noticed” I quipped, but he ignored my little jab,
“I can’t believe I didn’t realise it. I could sense my pup, that’s why I was so possessive. Plus, I bet you’ve been craving hardcore. I would have picked up on that too. Fuck, I'm so stupid. How didn’t I see it?”
“Craving?” I questioned. Has he completely forgotten that I'm new to all this? Were anatomy, pups and she-wolf pregnancies. It's all foreign to me.
“Yeh, pregnant she-wolves go nuts for meat. If you don’t keep up a steady intake of raw or cooked meat, you’ll get sick. You'll get violent and aggressive too”. I thought about what Gunner was saying. All the little remarks and snide comments that Galterio made over the last few days, they made sense now. He knew why I was acting like a ravenous animal. I wasn’t losing my mind, my pup was just starving is all.
“I can’t believe I didn’t feel how ravenous you were. Baby, I'm so sorry. Shit! I nearly bit your head off for just smelling like another male for fucks sake” he grumbled and wrapped his arms around my waist,
“Don’t remind me” I mumbled quietly. Gunner grabbed my chin and lifted my head to look at him.
“I will never be able to apologise enough for that Zelena. I swear I will spend the rest of our lives showing you how sorry I am” he said earnestly while staring deeply into my eyes. His dark eyes were showing hints of his normal blue, but they were still so dark. Are mine the same I wonder?
“I forgive you” I whispered, while looking at the black whisps swirling around in his iris.
“Don’t. Not that easily” he said firmly. A rush of anger swept through me, it made me shiver. It wasn’t mine though, it was from Gunner. He was angry with himself. Maybe me too, I don’t know.
“Don’t forgive me! I don’t deserve it” Gunner growled and pushed me out of his arms.
“Look at you Zelena! You're fucking covered in blood. That fucker nearly killed you, the both of you. None of that would have happened if I had just fucking realised what was going on” Gunner stomped back and forth in front of me. His rage was clear, I could almost taste it. It tingled over my skin, and the darkness inside me loved it. I shook my head, trying to clear the dark haze away. We can’t do this, get mad at each other, we have to think about the pup now. But holy shit I love the way it makes my skin crawl.
“Gunner” I growled lowly. He glared at me and stopped marching.
“Why are you so weak? Why can’t you hate me?” he yelled. His anger flew over me like a wave of icy water.
“I am not weak” I growled back. His lips curled back, and he snarled. The black whisps of smoke slithered from the tips of his fingers and began to crawl up his arms. I let go of my hold on the darkness and let it flow through me. Just like Gunner, it curled up around my arms. Kissing my skin with sharp icy sparks of electricity. I felt my body lift off the ground as the dark magic filled my chest.
“STOP!” a loud and echoed voice rang out. It sounded like it came from inside me, as well as all around me. The voice was full of pain and anger, it hit against my chest, shaking me to the core. It rang through the forest and seemed to hang in the air for a long time. I didn’t just hear it, I felt it. I turned my eyes to the side, as did Gunner, both of us searching for the source of the powerful voice. My eyes found it almost instantly. I mean, it was hard to miss. My feet touched back down on the ground, and I felt all the anger get sucked out of me.
Tobias stood before us, tall and strong. His gigantic muscular arms folded over his chest and his dark eyes glared at me. Where the heck has he been? His powerful aura seemed to glow. He has always been strong and powerful, but this was something else. His normal dark chocolaty skin glistened under the early morning sun light. It was the figure standing next to him that caught me off guard. Now this I was not expecting. Her usual serene face was pinched with concern and her beautiful eyes were narrowed and angry.
“Mother?” I said meekly.
“Yes, daughter of mine” Selene answered me.
