The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 69 - A shared gift

Zelena.

As I stomped back down the stairs, I found Gunner talking with Tobias, Cole and a man I hadn’t seen before. He was a bit shorter than Cole and a lot older, but still clearly very fit and in good shape. His long light brown hair was tied back in a ponytail and his beard was well kept. As I reached the bottom step, all men turned to face me. Their faces were blank, but I could feel the tension in the air around them.
“What’s going on?” I asked walking to Gunners side.
“Smith is headed back, he reached the Crescent Wolf pack” Cole paused,
“And? Are they coming too?” I questioned. Cole looked to Gunner and the new man and back to me, his eyes dropped a little.
“Not exactly” Gunner inserted.
“Hello Luna, I’m Patrick, I've come from Crescent Wolf” the new man spoke, his voice somewhat breaking the awkward silence.
“Hello sir” I said softly. I felt an unease settle in my stomach. Something was wrong but they were all dancing around it, trying to avoid telling me.
“What?” I snapped looking at Cole then up to Gunner.
“Crescent Wolf were attacked, Patrick here came to ask for aid” Tobias finally spoke. Gunner growled softly at him. Attacked? A heaviness filled my chest, it had to be the hunters.
“Was it the hunters?” I asked,
“Yes Miss, we suffered a lot of casualties. Most of our fighters are gone, the ones that are left are leading the remaining pack to safe houses” Patrick said, his voice shaking slightly.
“Bring them here, we’ll help them” I said urgently. The unease in my stomach turned to guilt, I felt nauseous and anxious. Because of their search for me, the hunters have now attacked an innocent pack. What have I done?
“We can help, we have to help them. Oh god this is all my fault. Gunner please bring them here” tears were flooding my eyes. My arms were shaking and my legs felt weak, the panic overtook me and I felt like my feet lifted off the ground. I closed my eyes tight and when I opened them again, I was floating above the bloody scene. All I could see were dead bodies splayed out in a grass field. Small white houses, riddled with bullet holes, were lined up along a tree line. The grass below me was red with blood. I can see children’s bodies huddled together in the grass, not moving. Dead wolves with blood stained fur and torn apart human bodies scattered the grounds. The whole thing was horrifying. Off in the distance I can see walking figures, in a blink I was now floating above them. Men and woman all dressed in black carrying big bulky guns and crossbows and all sorts of other weapons. The hunters.
I gasped for air as I came to, I was laying on the foyer floor with Gunner holding my head. He took a deep breath and looked down at me wide eyed and confused. I burst into tears as what I saw played back through my mind.
“My Goddess! Goddess! Can you hear me little one?” Tobias’s rushed voiced echoed around the foyer as he knelt next to us holding my hand in his.
“Zelena, are you ok?” Gunner panted.
“I saw them, Gunner” I cried,
“I saw the Crescent Wolf pack, all dead” I sobbed loudly as he pulled me up into his lap. I pressed my face into his chest and let the tears fall.
“I know little wolf, I saw it too” he whispered stroking my hair.
“And the hunters, I saw the hunters”
“What does that mean, she saw them?” Tobias asked,
“She has Drakos-Mati" Gunner replied.
“Impossible” Patrick gasped.
“Does she really?” Tobias questioned again. It was frustrating me how they were talking about me while I was laying in front of them. Granted, Gunner knows a lot more about all this than I do, but they could still direct some of their questions to me.
“Yes, she took me with her. I could see what she saw” Gunner finally answered. Wait what?
“You saw it too?” I demanded, lifting my head to look at Gunner. He brushed his hand over my tear stained cheek and nodded his head.
“But how?” I sniffled,
“You shared it with me, not flashing but more like you shared your gift”
“The Drakos-Mati, the dragon story you told me in the forest?”
“Yes, clearly not just a story”
“You’re serious?” Tobias exclaimed. Gunner just nodded his head, not turning his eyes from me. Three confirmed gifts. More power to get control of. Oh my, this life is going to be a crazy ride. I recalled the vision I had. It was like I was flying, such a strange feeling. My body felt weightless and yet power coursed through me. The sight I looked down on though, was horrifying.
“It was awful” I whispered.
“I wish you didn’t have to see that Zee, I'm so sorry”.
The torn and bloodied bodies of the children hung in my mind. How could anyone hurt a child, Were or not. What kind of monsters are they? My anger grew and I could feel the heat in my skin rising.
“We’re going to kill them all” I hissed looking up at Patrick. I want to feel the life of the hunters leave their bodies as I crush them under the wight of my power. I want to taste hunter blood on my tongue and feel ripped flesh between my teeth. I want to end them all.
“Zelena” Gunner said cautiously. I stood up and took Patrick’s hand, staring directly into his eyes.
“I promise you I will kill them all, every hunter that hurt your pack. They'll pay with their lives”. I could feel the venom of my words, my fury was bubbling over and infecting the men around me. Patrick growled excitedly and Cole smirked, lowering his eyes. I turned around to face Tobias and Gunner, crossing my arms over my chest. Gunner was studying me cautiously, he could feel my rage through our bond. Tobias had his lips curled back baring his growling teeth.
“They’re coming, let’s do this” I said firmly. Tobias smiled and nodded. Gunner was red hot with anger but his eyes only held worry. The urge to sooth his anxiety pulled me towards him. I stepped into his chest and wrapped my arms around his neck.
“I need to do this, you need me to help you do this” I pushed him.
“Zelena it’s dangerous, you saw how ruthless they are” he pleaded.
“Don’t fight me on this Gunner, I will fight them with or without your blessing”.
He let out a slow breath and lowered his head. He knew my stance on this was too strong to argue, especially after seeing what they had done at Crescent Wolf.
“Okay, fine” he conceded reluctantly.
“I will not leave her side, Gunner. I give you my word” Tobias said placing his hand on Gunner’s shoulder.
“You better not let anything happen to her” he snarled snapping his head to glare at Tobias.
“I promise, I will earn your trust young Alpha” Tobias promised. I already know that I can trust him. The moment that our hands touched, and I heard the voice of the Goddess whisper to me, the guardian bond was undeniable. Now I just need to help Gunner understand it as well.
The front door opened a little and Lupus poked half his body through,
“The vans are ready to leave son” he said.
“Thanks Dad” Gunner called,
“Come and see them off, they’ll want to see you”.
Gunner took my arms from around his neck and kissed my hand before leading me out onto the porch. The village looked empty, I could see men and wolves gathered at the tree line towards the edge of the clearing. A few more people were headed to the front of the house, but there were no happy voices or laughter. No sounds of kids playing, or the smell of food cooking. Nothing.
