Mother of the Moon - Chapter 146 - Interrogation
Lunaya.
“Touch me again and it will be the last time you have hands” Cleo growled at the young redhead. We were escorted back to the tent where we were right away surrounded on all sides. We could fight our way out, but that wouldn't solve anything and where would we go once we’re out? Fighting at this point would just complicate everything.
“What happened?” hissed Elaine quietly,
“I don’t know” I whisper yelled back. I don’t know why we are whispering, the guards outside could all hear us anyways. Alyse came to my side and pulled me down to sit beside her on a cot. She wrapped an arm around my waist and lifted one of my hands to lay on her lap. It was a good attempt at comforting me, but had no impact. Elaine’s furious frame loomed over me as she stood in front of Alyse and I. Cleo was standing in the far corner of the tent, watching on as usual. Venus and Phoebe sat on a cot opposite us, both of them keeping pretty quiet.
“Why did she collapse? Something must have happened” Elaine whispered harshly again,
“I told you I don’t know” I growled lowly.
“Did you feel anything? You're her mother, perhaps she was affected by some kind of cosmic bond between the two of you” offered Venus,
“That’s pushing it” Elaine snapped and glared back at her. Venus lowered her head and went quiet. That response from Elaine was completely unnecessary. For all we know Venus could be spot on.
“All I felt was nauseous, but that could have been nerves. I really don’t know what happened. I wish I did. I will find out one way or the other” I told them.
“Well, her Mate knows who you are now, and he said they needed to talk. It's only a matter of time until he tells her and I'm sure she will seek you out after that” Alyse said comfortingly. She's right. The look on his face when he stared at me and whispered ‘her mother’ has been playing constantly in my head. It screamed realisation. He knew it, and he was going to tell her. As much as I wanted it to come from me, she may take the news better coming from her lover. Now I just have to wait. Wait for her to come to me.
Hours passed since we were ushered away and confined to the tent. What little semblance remained of my patience, had long since shrivelled and died. I was ready to tear this tent apart and hunt my daughter down. Why did she not come straight to me? Does she not believe him, or is this the first stage of her rejecting our relationship? The not knowing is killing me. Voices outside the tent came just in time to stop me. I recognised two of them, one was Beta Cole and the other is Alpha Gunner, another voice was there as well, but I couldn’t place it.
“You can’t do that” Cole’s voice hissed,
“I can do whatever the fuck I want, this is my pack” Gunner’s voice growled back at him.
“Gunner you’re being unreasonable” the third voice commented.
“I just got her back, I'm not just going to hand her over to them, regardless of who she claims to be” Gunner grumbled,
“Just fucking talk to the she-wolf before you make any rash decisions. You don’t even know if that’s her plan” Cole spoke again,
“He’s right Gunner, you’re not thinking clearly. Try to let up on the possessive Alpha and think more as her friend, her Mate. You know it will hurt her if she finds out” the unknown voice pleaded. There was silence. By this point, all of us inside the tent were standing at the door and listening to the conversation.
“I don’t like it” Gunner growled,
“I know mate, but this can’t be your decision to make. It’s hers, and I think you know that” Cole said strongly. There was silence again and after what felt like an eternity, Gunner stepped through the door of the tent, followed by Cole and the redhead from the dinner. Another Were, a warrior by the looks of him, stood just outside the door. Gunner came to stand right in front of me, a deadpan expression plastered across his firm face. His hands were placed on his hips and the position of his stance was all Alpha. He is actually quite impressive.
“If you lie to me, I will kill you” he said firmly, Cleo, Elaine and Venus all growled softly at his threat. Gunner glared at them before averting his gaze back to my own.
“If you try to hide anything from me, I will kill you”. I didn’t respond, only stood tall and nodded my head.
“Speak she-wolf" he barked,
“Tell me you understand” he growled.
“I understand, Alpha Gunner” I answered him, my voice just as hard and firm.
“Very well, let’s start slow. Who are you?” he demanded,
“I am Lunaya, formerly of the Moon Light pack” I answered him. The redhead turned his gaze to the side of his Alpha’s head and his eyes blanked, he was flashing. Gunner blinked once and focused on me again.
“Moon Light, the pack from Alaska?” he asked,
“Yes”
“They were destroyed years ago”
“They were”
“There were no survivors, hunters killed everyone”
“Well not everyone, clearly, I am standing before you, aren’t I? You are also Mated to another survivor” I said matter-of-factly. Alpha Gunner didn’t appreciate my reply as he leaned forward with his teeth bared and growled.
“Careful” he warned. Cole placed his hand on Gunner’s shoulder and carefully pulled him back slightly.
“How did you survive?” he growled,
“I almost didn’t. I was shot multiple times, trying to escape with my baby. But the bullets were laced with aconite. They thought I was dead, that’s why they left. With her” I whispered the last two words, trying desperately to swallow the grief that was rolling through my chest. Gunner was quiet as he digested my words.
“How do we know you are telling the truth?” he asked,
“I suppose you don’t. I have no proof, only this”. I grabbed the necklace from around my neck and opened the locket before handing it to Gunner. He studied the picture inside for a while before turning it to me. I looked over the photo once again, as I have thousands of times before. Micha and I standing side by side with his large hand placed gingerly on my swollen belly.
“This is her father?” he said pointing at Micha.
“It is” I said as I took the locket from his hand. I traced my finger over the beautiful pale face of Micha as a tear rolled down my cheek.
“May I see?” Cole asked, stepping closer. I smiled and held the locket out for him to take. He looked at the photo and breathed in harshly.
“Gunner, she looks exactly like him” he said softly.
“I know” Gunner grumbled back. Cole passed the locket to the redhead, who had the same reaction. Gunner’s eyes searched me, burning into my face. He was looking for any signs of threat or dishonesty, for something to prove that I was lying. However he would find nothing. I am just a mother looking for her stolen daughter. After a while the scent of anger from the Alpha was increasing steadily.
“Why now? Why are you only coming to her now? She was taken as a baby, so you’ve had what, eighteen years to track her down? Why are you only coming to her now that she has risen as the Triple Goddess? Is this some kind of power grab? What do you want with her?” Gunner demanded. I stared at him blankly, confused about his question. What do I want with her? What does he think I want with her? He actually thinks I'm here to hurt her, my own child.
“Excuse me?” I snarled,
“I’m not going to repeat myself” he snapped back,
“You think I want her for her power?” I asked dumbly,
“Why else would you wait this long?”
My chest exploded in a fiery burst of fury. The nerve of this damn boy. I don’t care who’s Mate he is, I don’t care if he’s an Alpha. I want his blood.
***Nae, be calm***
Alyse flashed me and stepped forward reaching for my hand. But it was already too late. I saw red and I was ready to kill.
