Mother of the Moon - Chapter 117 - The Day Of
Zelena.
A loud bang on the door had us both flying upright in surprise.
“What the heck is going on in there?” Nat’s voice screamed from the other side of the door.
“Nat?” I called back.
“Do you want to tell me why all the doors and cupboards in the house are flying open and closed like someone released a hoard of possessed demons loose in the house?” she screamed again. I looked at Gunner with a terrified and embarrassed look on my face. His stared back at me with wide eyes and an open mouth. At the same time, we both burst out laughing again. I laughed so hard that tears streamed out of my eyes. I heard Nat mumble something along the lines of ‘you guys are gross’ as she stomped away.
“Okay, okay, okay. I’m convinced, that was a really good wakeup call” Gunner laughed and fell back onto the bed. I stared at the door and laughed as well. My laughing stopped abruptly as it dawned on me. Everyone in the house knows what we have been doing this morning. And seeing as it’s the day of the party, there are a lot of extra people in the house. Holy shit-balls. I felt the embarrassment flood my cheeks with hot flush. Gunner lifted his head to peek at me and it only set off another round a laughter from him.
“You’ve turned so red” he choked out between breaths.
“Gunner, it’s not funny. Everyone will know what we were doing” I said hitting his chest.
“Relax, we’re Mated, they already know that we have sex. A lot of sex. And with how often we do it, it would be weird if you didn’t smell like sex anymore”
“Okay yes, that’s true and also not helping the situation. And I smell like sex? Seriously? Not the point. The point is, losing control of my powers, is no longer confined to just our bedroom”
“Or hospital room” he interjected,
“Or hospital room. This is so embarrassing. I don’t want your parents to know that sort of stuff”
“Zee, who do you think taught me about the birds and the bees. They were just as bad at our age. Don’t worry about it. And besides, it was just a few slamming doors, maybe they will think it was from a fight or a nightmare or something”.
“Ugh, whatever” I groaned. Gunner sat up and crawled over to me. He planted a few soft kisses on my pouting lips.
“I love you” he cooed and kissed me again.
“I love you too” I sung in a mocking tone.
“You smell fantastic, don’t have another shower” he smiled and jumped off the bed and walked over to his dresser.
“Seriously?” I whined.
“Yes seriously. There are a lot of visiting males around the village and if the mark on your neck and now the mark on your back doesn’t clue them into the fact that you’re taken, the smell of me all over you should do the trick” he pulled on a pair of blue jeans and a tight black t-shirt while he spoke. I watched his every movement carefully. The way his muscles twitched and bulged with each lift or pull of his arms and legs, it made my stomach flutter and my lady bits tingle all over again. I know the possessiveness should make me angry or something, but it doesn’t. If anything, it makes me feel loved, safe and protected.
“I don’t know if I should be turned on or completely disgusted by your possessiveness” I teased him my arms crossed over my chest and a pout on my face.
He smiled and leaned over the bed so that his face was only inches away from mine.
“Why can’t you be both” he snickered and pecked my lips and stood up again.
“Come on, get dressed. We’ve got a big day before the party starts. I’ll meet you downstairs”.
Gunner dashed out the door before I could argue further. As much as I would love to go back to bed and sleep off the tiredness from last night’s round of sexual escapades, it wouldn’t be very ‘Luna like’ of me to sleep through the preparations for my own party. With a disheartened groan I pulled myself up and out of bed and went to the closet. I want to show off my new mark a bit, so I chose a pale blue strappy sundress that shows my back and chest and sits just above my knees.
I pulled the dress on and tied my hair up in a high ponytail to expose the mark on the top of my shoulder too. I did a little twirl in front of the mirror. Showing this much flesh would have made me wince and cower not six months ago. And now I'm flaunting myself for the entire village to see. Okay, so not flaunting myself, just being confident. Gunner may not like how much skin I exposed but he won’t beat me half to death like my father, well pretend father, use to. And now that I don’t have horrible scars and bruises to cover up anymore, I’m starting to like wearing stuff like this. I guess not being afraid of getting murdered at the end of every day encourages a little self-confidence and personal growth.
The pack house was alive with activity, she-wolves running back and forth and big burly men coming and going. Roe’s voice could be heard echoing through each room and hallway, calling out instructions and demands. I followed the sound towards the kitchen, the busy noise got louder and louder the closer I got. The kitchen was a maze of moving bodies and carts of food. I could hear Roe’s voice above all the others, but I couldn’t see her through the crowd of people.
“Roe” I called out, standing on my tippy toes. I don’t know why I bothered. With my short legs I’d need a step ladder to see over all these giants.
“Roe!” I called again with added volume,
“Zelena. What are you doing in here? You can’t be in here. Out!” she screamed over the rest of the noise.
“I just wanted to help” I yelled back,
“Not in here you won’t, now out”
“But…”
“OUT!” she screamed. A chorus of laughter filtered through the kitchen as I exited through the door. ‘Well now what?’ I thought as I jumped out of the way of a man carrying a large box. Maybe Gunner can use my help, so I headed for his office, but it was empty. Next, I tried the hall, but that was empty too. Maybe I can help outside with the tents or decorations or something. I wasn’t exactly expecting it to be less busy than the kitchen, perhaps the same. But boy was I wrong.
Standing on the porch, I scanned the chaos going on before me. The fire pit was like a bug zapper, drawing in all the bugs to congregate around it. The entire clearing down the middle of the village was full. Full of Weres, long picnic tables, tall standing tables, benches and more. All lined up and facing the stage, like some kind of wedding alter. Off in the side field beyond the last row of cabins is where majority of the tents were set up, other tents were scattered around the outskirts of the village. Again, way more than I was expecting. Just how many Weres have been invited to this thing? I spotted Nat weaving around the tables, placing decorations as she went. I ran down to catch her before she ran off again.
“Nat” I called, I hopped up onto one of the bench seats and waved at her over the top of all the other people. But of course I didn’t just get Nat’s attention, no, I got everyone else’s attention as well. Most of which were from our pack, and thankfully, they had gotten a lot better with not swarming me when I wondered around the village. I guess that the novelty of living with the Triple Goddess had worn down significantly. The visiting Weres though, a different story. Those that didn’t know for sure who I was, whispered and sniffed the air as I walked past. The rest, those that already knew me, or at least what I look like, they bent to a knee with their heads down and hands out.
“Nat wait” I yelled as I got a little closer. I smiled and waved timidly as I made my way towards her.
“Lena, what are doing out here?” Nat hissed and grabbed my hand.
“I came to help” I replied, a bit confused at her harsh tone.
“Ugh, you're not supposed to be out here. I’m not letting you set up for you own party” she grumbled with a shake of her head and started leading me back towards the house.
“That’s not fair, I should be helping with something. Your mum won’t let me in the kitchen, I can’t find Gunner and now you’re forcing me back inside. What gives?”
“Has no one told you yet?” she snapped and stopped walking, turning back to face me.
“Told me what? What the fuck is going on?” I demanded. My panic started to rise with my first thought being that something bad had happened.
“Babe, the new Luna isn’t meant to be seen until the ceremony, when you’re introduced to the pack”
“So what, I’m just meant to hide out inside until the party starts?”
“Well yeh, except you won’t be hiding out” she chuckled and continued pulling me back to the pack house.
“Okay, explain” I huffed.
“Mum and I have arranged something a little special for you, Gunner was meant to tell you. Obviously, he forgot. He’s been doing that a lot lately”.
I can’t blame him, a lot has been going on. Both with him and with the pack. Of course things are going to slip through the cracks. I am a little excited about this surprise though, even if my excitement is a little overshadowed by my guilt. I should definitely be helping with preparations.
“Anyway, no biggy, not too many people saw you thankfully. Head to my room and I’ll send your surprise up” Nat continued. As we reached the porch steps she stopped and turned to face me.
“I’ll be up in an hour or two”
“Nat, this isn’t right, I should be helping” I whined.
“I know your whole pay-my-own-dues thing and nothing-is-for-free mentality is hard for you to shake, but this is tradition, a kind of important one. Do you think you can just go along with it? Just this one time?” She was harsh and the bluntest that I have ever seen her. It kind of kicked me back a little.
“Wow, when did you become so straight forward?” I asked, reeling back a little.
“Don’t take it personally sis, I have a fuck tone of shit to do, and if my mum find’s out that you were out here, she will literally tear me a new asshole”.
I snorted and laughed a little harder than I expect. I have never heard Nat speak like that. She is always so sweet and innocent, a little sarcastic and sometimes cheeky, but not so ‘Wham’ in your face.
“Okay, I better be quick and sneaky then” I giggled.
“I’d appreciate that. Now go, you’re already behind schedule” she said pushing me up the first stair.
“I have a schedule?”
“Zelena, go” she chuckled and walked away.
I stuck my head in the front door and listened. Roe’s voice was still booming from the kitchen and the foyer was empty. I bounded through the door and up the stairs and made it to Nat’s room without anyone seeing me, well at least I think no one saw me. I took a deep breath and pushed open the bedroom door. Smack bang in the middle of the room was a giant leather recliner chair with a big tub, spa thing attached to the bottom. Oh, I know what this is, it’s like a spa for your feet. Shit yeh, this will be awesome.
“Finally, I thought I was going to have to come and find you” a feminine voice came from the bathroom, followed by a small woman carrying a hose thing. She plugged the hose into the chairs bath and turned the tap on.
“Hey hon, I’m Clary. I’m going to give you a pedicure and full foot treatment” she smiled and stood with her hands on her hips. She was just a tad taller than me with dark brown skin and deep brown eyes. Her hair sat in gorgeous nappy curls in an afro style, giving me a bout of major hair envy. She is beyond gorgeous.
“Well sit down girl, let's get this show on the road” she smiled and waved her hand for me to sit in the chair. I did as I was told, kicked off my shoes and plopped my feet in the water. My smile was splitting my face in two. I’m so excited for this.
“Come on ya'll” Clary called, and two more people walked out form the bathroom. One wheeling a cart with nail polish and other bits and bobs on it. The other carrying a big bucket with products and tubes and bottles, and a whole bunch of stuff I didn’t recognise.
“You ready for some pampering?” Clary asked and smirked up at me.
“Hell yes I am!”
