Mother of the Moon - Chapter 171 - Artemis It Is

Lunaya.

Alpha Ambrose had already broken off from the group to cover the East. His son, Ares, and their warriors would head up to meet him and then their pack would cut them off from there. Alpha Lace took his men, and at the request of Alpha Marius, half of the Blue Moon warriors, to the coastline on the West. I can understand now why Tobias so easily handed his brother the Alpha title. Marius is a smart Were, very capable and wise beyond his years. He is cocky as all hell, but the devotion and loyalty he has is strong. I'm glad Zelena has such a strong alliance with that pack. With Alpha Travis’s warriors from Waning Wolf coming from the South, and Tri-Moon and Luna Eclipse coming from the North. Plus, the addition of the remaining Blue Moon warriors spreading out to pick off the stragglers. We will have them completely blocked off and surrounded. The sun was not far from rising, meaning the battle was imminent. We were all now in position. Before the Alpha’s broke apart, they made a blood bond. All six of them, even Hina, slit their palms and mixed their blood. Blood bonds are an outdated alliance ritual. But it allows the Alpha’s to flash, so in this instance, totally necessary.
My black and white wolf stood between Hina snow white wolf and Gunner’s massive silver wolf. Cleo stood just behind me, and Cole and Lupus were right behind Gunner. Unsurprisingly, Tobias has the biggest wolf I have ever seen. It's no wonder he was picked as the guardian. He is a tank on legs. Gunner handed out his orders to his pack. Let no one escape, kill or be killed, and of course, call him at the first sign of Zelena. Hina didn’t need to voice her orders. Her she-wolves were extremely well trained and prepared. They knew where to go and what to do. The first sign of sunrise began to sparkle over the horizon. Gunner was ready to sound the charge order when a howl rang out through the dawn air. It was filled with pain and fear, and it struck me through the heart. The pain shot through me like ice in the veins. It's Zelena. Gunner and the other Tri-Moon pack members knew it too. They all perked their ears forward and their shackles raised. Gunner threw his head back and howled in response, followed closely by Cole, Lupus, and the rest of the wolves. Hina, Elaine and I joined in. And all at once, in one collaborative movement, we charged.
We got a lot further in than I was expecting, before we came across the first enemy wolf. I guess the great and almighty Origin Alpha didn’t expect us to attack. Idiot. The enemy came at us in dribs and drabs. A few at a time and easily taken out. But the closer we got to the farmhouse, the more we came across. Soon we hit a tight line of warriors and could no longer push forward. Tri-Moon pack are good fighters. Skilled and quick on their paws. The Luna Eclipse she-wolves however, they were like slick blades, slicing through the Weres like butter. I had never seen them in action. And they most definitely lived up to their reputation.
I had the neck of one Were in my jaw when I spotted a large group of reinforcements closing in. I dropped the dead wolf and barked at Gunner. He ripped open a small tan wolfs neck and looked over at me, his muzzle was covered in blood, and he looked terrifying. I nodded my head in the direction of the wolves heading for us. Gunner snarled and barked over to Cole. Cole and Gunner snarled and growled as they flashed, then Cole quickly turned and ran for a tree. With impressive agility and ease, Cole bounded up the tree and jumped across the branches effortlessly. I was completely transfixed by his graceful movements that I didn’t see the Were coming for me. Cole disappeared through the trees in the direction of the farmhouse, as I was tackled to the ground. The Were managed to quickly get its jaws around my neck and squeezed. Right when I thought that I was done, a large set of snow white jaws ripped the Were from me, and then threw it across the ground. Hina growled and snapped her teeth, scolding me for losing focus.
I got back up and pushed off the ground, jumping over Hina’s back, landing on a wolf that was charging up behind her. I grabbed the wolfs ear between my teeth as I jumped, and ripped it clean off as I dragged it to the ground. The wolf howled and charged at me again. I reared up onto my back legs and swiped my paw across its neck. My claws ripped open the soft flesh and blood poured out of it. The wolf stumbled and fell to the ground. I turned to Hina with a wolfs version of a cheeky grin. She huffed and grunted and then leapt onto another wolf.
Quickly enough the large battalion was brought down, with minimal casualties on our side. The pack began to push through the trees once more, when Gunner stopped running and growled. He was flashing. He looked at Hina as they began flashing with each other. Fuck me, I wish I could hear them.
***Beta Cole has found your daughter***
A voice popped into my head. I looked around and found Cleo staring directly at me. Cleo? Cleo and I can flash?
***Cleo?***
I asked her and her wolf nodded,
***When did this happen?***
***I pledged to help you avenge your family. I gave you my loyalty, and with it our bond was made.***
Well, I suppose I can’t be too surprised. We have gotten very well acquainted. I would even call her my friend. This is great, Hina can fill her in on what’s going on and then she can relay it to me. Finally, a little clarity.
***You said Cole has her?***
***Yes***
***Where?***
***He is trying to get her to the coastline and then North from there***
***Excellent, let’s go then***
***Wait, he said that Artemis is at the farmhouse. He has been helping the origin Alpha***
A growl bubbled through my exposed teeth at the mention of that traitorous Prophet. I would love nothing more than to sink my teeth into his neck. Kill that bastard and that damned prophecy along with him. Fuck. Do I go to her, or go find him? Gunner started off again, but this time he was headed West, towards the coast with Tobias in toe. Lupus was leading the Tri-Moon warriors towards the farmhouse.
***She’s safe?***
I asked Cleo. She didn’t respond right away, so I assume she is confirming with Hina.
***They said she has some bad looking slashes and a fucked-up ankle, but nothing life threatening.***
***Artemis it is then.***
With both Gunner and Tobias going for Zelena, it’s safe to say that I can go after Artemis, and trust that they will take care of her. It's their job after all, the both of them.
