Mother of the Moon - Chapter 173 - The Cell
Lunaya.
As I stepped to the door, a sharp pain in my hip made me wince. I looked down and saw the deep seeping bite wound. I pressed my hand over it and grabbed the door handle. Locked. Of course it wasn't going to be that easy. I moved along, keeping to the side of the house. As I approached the corner, two men walked around it. They both spotted me at the same time, and I jumped into action. I pushed my body into a front handspring and wrapped my knees around the head of the Were on the right. Maintaining the rounding motion, the top half of my body kept flying forward, with my hands connecting with the ground. Keeping my knees locked on his neck, I activated my leg muscles and pulled the Were off his feet and tossed him to the ground a few meters away. I must have been moving too fast as the other Were hadn’t even turned around yet. I jumped up and enclosed my arm around his neck and gave a hard twist. His neck snapped cleanly and his body dropped to the ground. I turned back around to the other Were and met his hand connecting with my throat. His large strong hand gripped my neck as he growled angrily. I lifted both my arms up and thrust them down on top of his wrist, forcing his hand away from my throat. With my elbow bent, I then snapped it back upwards, connecting it with his chin. He fell backwards, landing on his ass. I stepped over him with one leg on either side of his. He reached out to grab at me, but I grasped hold of his hand. I twisted it harshly and his arm snapped loudly. This made him yell. I quickly dropped his arm and grabbed his head, thrusting my knee up, I slammed it into his nose. Now he was out.
I peeked around the corner of the house. Three more Weres were standing a bit away, facing away from me. They were watching our warriors fighting. It was the Howlers group and they were decimating the enemy. A few meters away from where I was standing, is a medium size window. I could go for the window, break it, and jump through before they turn around. But, I don’t know who might be on the other side. I looked back behind me. Lupus, Hina and the warriors were doing okay, but I couldn’t see Cleo. I would appreciate the back up right now.
I decided to go for the window, I can’t risk standing around out here in the open, waiting to be seen or captured. I looked down at myself, I’m naked, what am I going to use to break this window. I looked at the unconscious Were laying on the ground. That will work. I ripped the shoe off his foot and scrunched up my nose as I pushed my hand into the warm running shoe. I quickly checked around the corner again, they were still watching the fighting. I ran to the window, fisted my hand inside the shoe and thrust my arm forward. The glass shattered and fell to the ground. I pushed out the large shards left in the windowsill and then climbed through. I was in a bedroom. It was empty, but the lingering scent told me it hasn’t been empty for long. Which means they could come back at any moment. On the floor by the bed was a grey t-shirt dress, I picked it up and pulled it over my head.
I pressed my ear to the closed door and listened. I can’t hear anything, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone out there. I pulled open the door, the tiniest bit, and peered through the crack. I can’t see anyone. I opened the door a little wider and slipped through it, then began to tiptoe down the small hallway. I passed another bedroom with the door wide open, and a fancy looking bathroom. The hallway came to an end where it opened up into a large kitchen. The kitchen was a total mess. Like a bomb had gone off in there. Glass everywhere and furniture thrown all about. These guys are not too keen on housekeeping, apparently. The kitchen area was empty, but on the other side of that was a living space, and I could see four Weres in there. I waited a few seconds and then dashed past the wide walkway and to the other side of the hallway. The first door I stopped at looked a little ominous and out of place in this fancy house. A large and heavy looking wooden door with a padlock on it. It stood taunting me, my mind filling with the possibilities of what could be behind it. Is this what they are guarding? All thoughts of Artemis were pushed to the back of my mind as curiosity took over.
I gripped hold of the padlock and tried to muffle the sounds of it with my other hand. I pulled hard and twisted at the same time. The metal creaked and groaned at the force, and with one final pull, it snapped off. I looked behind me and listened, it seems like no one heard that. When I was sure that no one was coming, I threaded the rest of the broken lock through the hole and then flicked open the latch. I cracked open the door and angled my ear to listen. It was quiet. Next I put my nose to the slightly ajar door, and sniffed. I can smell a few different scents, some fresh and some aging. I checked behind me once again, and then I looked through the crack to make sure that there was no one standing there either. Once I was satisfied that the coast was clear, I slipped through the door and pushed it closed behind me.
It was pitch black, but I could tell that I was standing at the top of a staircase. I blinked my eyes a few times to help them get accustomed to the darkness. When I could make out more details of the narrow stairwell, I slowly walked down the steps. At the last step I stuck my head out and peered around the wall. On one side was a dead end, just a brick wall. On the other side though, were two Weres. One was sitting with his head leaned back and his eyes closed. And the other sat scrolling on his phone. This guy is actually sleeping, in the middle of a battle. Seriously, what the fuck? In between the two Weres was another door. A big metal door with a little bit of rust in the corners, held together by steel plates and bolts. By the looks of it, I really don’t think they want anyone in there. If I can quietly take out the Were that is awake first, and then move onto the sleeping one, I might actually be able to break in without being detected. And then I'll figure out what’s behind the door. I lifted my hand in front of my face and let my claws come forth. The long sharp black nails were still stained with blood. I crouched down low, took a deep breath and rushed around the corner. The first Were looked up at the same moment my claws swiped across his neck. The slicing sensation of skin under my nails, is always something that I have found pleasing. But it’s still killing. My nails tore into the neck of the sleeping Were before he even got the chance to wake up properly. His eyes flew open wide in fear, but quickly faded away again.
Once they were delt with, I stood back up and examined the door. Two more larger padlocks were latched onto this one. I searched the two bodies for keys, and found a small gold key hooked on a chain around the once sleeping Weres neck. I ripped it off and tried the first padlock. Bingo. The lock clicked open, and I pulled it off. The second one was a combination lock. Shit. It was a big chunky lock, and I don’t think I'll be able to snap it like I did the other one. These guys aren’t so bright so let's try the obvious. I put in 000. Nothing. 111 next, still nothing. 123 maybe. The lock clicked open, and I smiled to myself. Fucking dipshits. I threw the lock to the ground and pulled open the door. The smell that hit me was horrendous. I gagged and covered my mouth. My word! Are they hiding dead bodies in here? I pushed the door open all the way and let the dim light shine in. There, huddled in the far corner of the tiny little windowless room, was a filthy and scrawny looking woman. And under her arms, was a small boy, maybe three or four years old. They were both Weres, I could pick up a hint of their scent through the stench of their own filth. But who the fuck are they, and why are they locked in a cell?
