Mother of the Moon - Chapter 111 - Trout Point Lodge

Lunaya.

We turned off the highway and onto a dirt road at the Trout Point Lodge sign. This was the beginning of the Lua Chei pack borders. We drove much slower along the gravely road, with the sun hidden behind the tall trees and the roughness of the road, it was way too dangerous to maintain our previous speed. After only five minutes on the track a flash of something dark darting past the window caught my attention. I searched the darkening surroundings for whatever it was, when I spotted another.
“There are wolves surrounding us” I said not taking my eyes off the pale brown wolf running through the trees alongside our car.
“Yes, I noticed” Elaine responded, seeming somewhat unfazed.
“And what if they don’t accept us on their land? Hina only booked the accommodation, she didn’t contact the Alpha to alert him of our arrival” I said turning to glance at Elaine’s stoic face.
“We will deal with that if it comes to it” she said lowering her eyes and tightening her grip on the steering wheel.
As we pulled up to the front of the lodge, I searched around the trees before exiting the car. I could no longer see the light brown wolf or any other wolf hiding in amongst the trees. All the front and interior lights were on, but of course they would be expecting a group to be checking in, they just didn’t know that it was a group of Weres. Elaine stepped out of the car first and I followed after her. I opened Alyse’s door and blocked her between the car and my body the best I could. The other car pulled up and the three warriors didn’t hesitate to get out of their car and stand by us. Walking together in a tight circle towards the door, to anyone else, we would have looked like idiots, but I have no doubt that the pack fighters could recognise our defensive circle. Elaine opened the front door and we all filed in. Standing in front of a reception desk, I took the chance to look around, it was completely empty but I knew they were all here. I could smell them.
Elaine hit the bell on the top of the desk, and I spun around to glare at her. The sound of the bell echoed through the eerie quiet lodge, waking all the ghosts and telling anyone that didn’t already know we were here, exactly where we are. A big grey wolf stepped out into a large open doorway that leads to what looks like an extravagant living area, another appeared at the top of a set of stairs. A dark brown and grey wolf stepped forward from around another corner and more now stood outside around our cars. We weren’t going anywhere. They had made sure of that.
Growls and barks filled the lodge, even more swept in from the other wolves outside. We are severely outnumbered. The warriors and Elaine concealed Alyse and I between their bodies and took a defensive stance, keeping us tucked away in the middle. The movement irked me a little, like we couldn’t take care of ourselves. Please. We have lived as Omegas for a long time. We know how to hold our own. But right now is definitely not the time for a show of strength.
“Please, we didn’t come for trouble” I called out pushing my way through the hard and strong protective women.
“We mean you no harm” I said to try and convince them to stand down. I held my arms up in surrender and shot my eyes between the wolves on either side of us.
“State your business here” a voice bellowed from the living area. A tall blonde woman came to stand next to the grey wolf. She was a little older, perhaps in her late fifties, early sixties, but still held an aura of power.
“We have a booking” I said turning my back on the wolves behind me and giving my full attention to the woman. This was a risky move, leaving myself open to attack from behind, but I needed to show her that we really did mean them no harm.
“And why should I let you onto my lands, you have come here unannounced and uninvited” the woman said firmly.
“Luna” I said with a small bow of my head,
“We have come from Luna Eclipse. We are on a diplomatic mission to offer our greetings and support to the newly risen Triple Goddess”.
The woman was quiet for a moment, her eyes raking over each and every one of us from head to toe. She was sizing us up and searching for signs of danger or deceit.
“How do I know you are being honest? Luna Eclipse is said to be just a legend”
“All legends start somewhere. In this case, from the source itself”.
“Hm” she mumbled. She crossed her arms over her chest and stared at me with an emotionless face.
“I swear on the Goddess herself, we mean you no ill intent. And we really do want to keep our booking” I chuckled with a large smile. Anything to lessen to thick tension swirling around the room. After a moment the woman laughed and stepped towards us.
“Thank goodness. I really didn’t want to deal with dead bodies today” she joked and patted my shoulder. Elaine growled lowly but stood up straight from her attack stance. She stepped up next to me and offered her hand to the woman.
“I am Beta Elaine to the Luna Eclipse pack”
“Wow, you are a big lady” she chuckled and took Elaine’s hand and stepped closer to initiate Sevasmo. Elaine bent down and pressed her forehead against the woman’s. After a brief second, they split apart, though she still held Elaine’s forearm.
“I am Luna Astéri, welcome”.
I motioned for Alyse to step forward and she came to my arm, pressing herself into my side. Astéri watched us closely before a bright smile took over her face.
“You must be the couple?” she said nodding her head in our direction.
“This is Alyse, and I am Lunaya” I said with a short nod.
“Ahh, perfect. We have your special room all ready for you” she said turning around,
“I’m sorry? A special room?” I questioned before she could walk away.
“Yes, as requested on your booking information, two double rooms and one suite” she confirmed and walked around the desk.
I looked down to Alyse who was now smiling at me with excitement. It has been a very long time since we have stayed in anything that could be considered a suite. My excitement began to bubble through, and I could feel the corners of my mouth turning up into a smile. Astéri stepped back in front of us and handed me a big old-fashioned key. She then handed two more keys to Elaine.
“Come now, I’ll let you get settled in before you have dinner. Please follow me”.
Astéri walked off towards the stairs but bypassed them and instead opened a set of double doors to the left. We followed her into a room that could only be described as magnificent. There was a large queen canopy bed made of hand-crafted wooden logs. The other the side of the room boasted a large stone fireplace, surrounded by plush sofas. The high ceiling was held up by exposed log beams and alight by a gorgeous small chandelier that hung above the bed. Another set of double doors opened out onto a stone patio take overlooked the most beautiful running river. The sounds of nature enveloped the room in a luxurious cosiness.
“This is for us?” Alyse gasped as she stood in place and turned in a circle, examining the marvellous room.
“Sure is” Astéri nodded as she glanced around the room, clearly proud of the luxurious space.
“Your separate bathroom is through that door. However, if you want something a little extra relaxing, there is a woodfire sauna or hot tub located by the river. You lot are our only guests at the moment, so you will not be disturbed. Your bags will be brought to you and I will let you get settled. Dinner will be served in two hours”.
With that she left the room taking Elaine and the others with her. I could hear her explaining that the twin rooms were located on the second floor as they all walked up the stairs.
