Mother of the Moon - Chapter 141 - Revelations
Lunaya.
“How do you know this she-wolf?” Gunner asked him as he pointed at me. His loud and firm voice bounced off the walls.
“I took the time to speak with her. Believe it or not I take my role as Beta seriously, I'm not just going to let anyone roam around my pack” he quipped. Gunner stepped forward and pushed out his chest,
“You mean MY pack” he said condescendingly.
“Whatever” Cole huffed and crossed his arms over his chest.
“What do you know about her?” Gunner demanded. Cole stood tall, staring at his Alpha, but not answering him. His defiance must have hit a nerve in Gunner. Gunner leaped forward and grabbed Cole by the scruff of his neck.
“You are the Beta of this pack” he roared,
“You may not have attended the ceremony, but you still made a vow. A vow to protect the pack, honour the rules and obey your Alpha. I am your Alpha dammit!”
Cole’s hard face softened, just a little, but still he didn’t respond.
“Do you really hate us so much that you would threaten the safety of your Luna, of your pack mates?” Gunner asked him, his hard and violent voice was softer now, almost pleading with Cole.
“I would never” Cole snarled.
“Then why would you keep information from your Alpha, why would you allow the risk of danger?” Gunner yelled in his face,
“Because there is no danger here!” Cole yelled back, he grabbed hold of Gunner’s wrist and pulled it off him and shoved him back. Cole stood up tall and stepped forward.
“I can see her laying there, I'm not fucking blind. I can also see the panic in your eyes, your blinded by it, by her. I don’t care if you don’t trust me anymore, but I would never betray my pack”. The room was silent, all of us watching the tense interaction between Alpha and Beta. Gunner dropped his head and let out a slow breath.
“Then now is your chance, prove it to me. Tell me what you know” Gunner said softly. Cole moved his eyes to mine, and I knew right away that he would talk. It was written all over his face, an apology. He was going to tell Gunner all that he knew.
“I know who she is, she told me so” Cole said quietly, his eyes still glued to mine.
“And! Who is she, is she here to hurt Zelena?” Gunner asked him urgently,
“You really think so low of me?” Cole asked as he moved his sorrowful eyes back to Gunner.
“I don’t know any more Cole, you’re not the Cole I used to know. You're not my best friend anymore. I don’t know who you are now”
“I’m your Beta, your best friend since we were pups. I'm still Cole, and I'm just fucking grieving. It would have been nice to have my best mate around while that was happening”.
My heart broke for the boy in that moment. He was so broken and so hurt, and apparently, had been facing it all alone. I wanted to hold him and make it all better. But someone beat me to it. Alyse pushed passed the young male, who was too distracted by the scene to notice. She stepped up to Cole’s side and slipped her small hand into his. Cole snapped his head to hers and paused for a moment, I guess trying to decide what to do about her show of affection. Cole lifted his eyes to mine, I smiled weakly and offered an encouraging nod. His fingers tightened around Alyse’s hand and he turned back to Gunner.
“I’m sorry” Gunner said softly,
“I’m sorry about Spartan, I loved him too. I'm sorry I left you to deal with it alone. But Cole, you can’t do this anymore, you can’t keep shutting us out. You can’t keep stuff from me”.
“I know” Cole said with a nod,
“And I would never willingly let someone hurt her, you have to know that”. I knew he secretly liked her. He wanted to hate her or blame her, he tried too. But I saw it, he cares for Zelena. Gunner turned to look at his Mate, still lying unconscious on the floor.
“I didn’t know that, I had no way of knowing that” Gunner’s voice started to raise again. He was getting frustrated. I understood his frustration, all I wanted was to hold my child and make sure she is okay. But I couldn’t, because they don’t trust me.
“It’s time to talk Cole” Gunner said firmly. Cole looked to me once more and pulled Alyse’s hand a little closer to his side.
“She’s her mother” Cole said confidently.
“She’s whose mother?” Gunner asked exasperatedly. Cole didn’t answer him, instead they stood quietly, staring at each other. Romeá’s eyes bore into me with keen interest. She was a bright woman, very smart and inquisitive. Her head was tilted to the side, and she had her bottom lip between her teeth. Her eyes widened and she paled. It took her all of a minute to put the pieces together. She gripped hold of her son’s shirt and began to shake it roughly. Gunner shook off his mother and stepped closer to Cole.
“I’m running out of patience Cole” Gunner growled. Romeá grabbed his shirt again and kept shaking him, all the while her eyes stayed fixed on me.
“Mum” Gunner snapped and pulled himself from her grip and spun around to face her,
“What the fuck are you doing?”. Romeá opened and closed her mouth a few times, trying unsuccessfully to voice the revelation she had made.
“Mum?” Gunner asked with a more worried tone. He stepped forward and grabbed her by the shoulders and tried to get her to look at him, but it was pointless, her gaze was pinned to mine. Gunner followed his mother's eyeline and caught me staring back at her.
“What did you do to my mother?” he snarled and let go of Romeá and stepped toward me. Tobias moved his hand back to my neck and growled a warning, right up in my face. Behind Gunner, Romeá started to shake her head from side to side violently. She mumbled the word ‘no’ a few times before she grabbed Gunner’s arm and pulled him back around to face her.
“Aren’t you listening? Have you not heard a thing anyone has said?” she snapped at him. He seemed surprised by her harshness, everyone did.
“Use your brain Gunner, I know it’s in there. Think!"
Gunner stared at his mother blankly and then turned to look at his father who just offered him a shrug. He looked down to Zelena on the floor and held his gaze there. The room was silent as we waited for him to put it together. After a few moments, he turned to Cole and whispered,
“She’s her mother”.
“That’s what I said” Cole answered with a nod. Gunner’s eyes finally turned to mine and he blanked.
“Her mother” he whispered to himself. Tobias had loosened his grip slightly, but he didn’t release me. Zelena moaned from the floor, the first sign of life she has shown this whole time. Gunner dropped to her side and raked his eyes over her body. Zelena flew upright with a loud gasp and looked around the room. I tried to pull myself from Tobias’s hands, to go to her, but he held me firm. I growled at him loudly, warning him to let me go. Instead, he leaned forward and growled back.
“What the fuck is going on?” Zelena spat.
“Baby, are you okay?” Gunner asked her urgently as he pulled her into his lap. She gently cupped his cheek and ran her thumb over his bottom lip before pressing her lips to his. She pulled back and rested her forehead against his.
“I’m fine” she answered him. Her voice held so much love and devotion for her Mate, it was hard not to soften at the sound of it. She pushed herself off him and stood up. She slowly looked around the room, carefully eyeing each Were present. She held her gaze on Cole for longer than any of the others, before finally settling on Tobias.
“Tobias, why are you strangling her?” Zelena asked as she placed her hand on his shoulder,
“I don’t trust her” he snarled back, not looking away from me. But I paid him no mind, I was too busy staring at the beautiful creature that is my child. Her magnificent golden eyes looked like pools of warm honey. Her deep black hair made her skin look like porcelain. She is exquisite.
“That is no reason to kill her” Zelena cooed softly at her mammoth guardian. Tobias leaned closer and growled right in my face, I could feel his hot breath against my cheeks. I saw her hand squeeze his shoulder and she stepped closer to him again,
“Can you let her go, please” Zelena requested of him kindly. He growled in my face once more and slowly peeled his hand from around my neck and stepped back next to the Goddess. Alyse and Elaine rushed forward, and each of them held onto one of my arms for support.
“What happened?” Zelena asked turning to Elaine. Elaine was about to answer when Gunner cut her off,
“Cole, Smith, take the Luna Eclipse she-wolves to their tent and make sure that they are well guarded. They are not to leave and at no point are they to be left alone” he demanded,
“Son” Romeá said softly, but he ignored her and pulled Zelena into his chest.
“The Luna and I need to talk”.
