Mother of the Moon - Chapter 189 - The End

Lunaya.

Zelena looked back over and caught me staring with my eyes starting to water. She averted her gazed and looked uncomfortable. Of course she is, a person that she doesn’t know, a stranger, is staring at her in awe. I lowered my head and began to fiddle with the locket around my neck.
“You said ‘he’. You wanted to make sure that ‘he’s’ alright. You're having a boy?” Alyse spoke up, breaking the awkward silence that was currently sitting over all of us. Zelena chuckled and I lifted my gaze back to her face. She is even more beautiful when she smiles.
“I don’t know for sure, it just feels like a ‘he’ you know” she said as she rubbed her hands over her stomach. Gunner growled lowly and buried his face into her hair. Such an Alpha male.
“Please don’t say anything, we haven’t told Gunner’s parents yet. We haven’t told anyone yet” Zelena pleaded looking up to meet Alyse’s gaze.
“Of course, our lips are sealed” Alyse smiled at her,
“Roe is going to be so excited” Alyse said with a chuckle. To that Gunner groaned and Zelena laughed.
“Don’t remind me, she’s suffocating enough as it is. Now we’re giving her a grandpup, she’s going to be impossible to live with” Gunner grumbled with a roll of his eyes.
“Hey!” Zelena snapped as she hit his chest,
“Be grateful. She loves you. You should be more appreciative that you actually have a mother around to act all crazy and obsessive over you” she chastised him. Her words felt like a knife to the heart. I pressed my hand over my chest, my way of trying to hold the pieces of my heart together. I wish I could have been there to suffocate and obsess over her as she grew. But I'm here now, and I'm going to make damn sure that she knows how much I love her. I looked up to see Gunner’s piercing gaze scrutinising my blank face. I looked to Zelena, and she had a crestfallen expression. She may have been able to hide her envy form Gunner, but I could see the sadness and longing all over her face.
“Zelena...” I whispered. I want to tell her, I need to tell her.
“I’m sorry, I'm sorry. I didn’t mean to put a downer on the conversation” Zelena said as she waved her hands through the air and placed a forced smile on her face.
“I guess I'm just emotionally exhausted you know. That whole thing with Galterio and Artemis, being kidnapped and finding out I'm pregnant, and that weird ass prophecy stuff. I'm just drained, I'm sorry” she said dismissively. The prophecy, she knows about that. How?
“You know about the prophecy?” I barked out. I didn’t mean for it to come out so harsh and abrupt, but she surprised me. I sat up straight and stared at Zelena intently.
“The thing about choosing between two Mates?” she asked me. She was wary of my hard face and curious expression, as she should be. Gunner growled possessively and pulled her into him.
“What are you talking about?” he growled at me, or her, I'm not sure who he was asking. Zelena looked to me, waiting to see if I was going to answer the question. I’m not. I want to hear what she thinks she knows first.
“Artemis was helping Galterio because of some kind of prophecy. Apparently, I am meant to choose between two mates, one good and one bad. Galterio thought that he was the other choice, besides you. That's why he...” Zelena paused, she had a faraway look in her eye, and her hand flew up to the mating mark on her shoulder,
“That’s why he marked me. He was trying to get rid of our bond, so that I would have to pick him. But it didn’t work”. Gunner lifted Zelena from his lap and stood up. He paced back and forth in front of the booth with his hands fisted at his sides. The anger coming off him was thick. It hung in the air, threatening to choke us. Zelena sat still and quiet, watching Gunner stomp back and forth. Without warning, Gunner roared and sent his fist flying through the wall. On instinct, I jumped to my feet and placed myself between Gunner and Zelena, knees bent and claws out, ready to attack. I growled a warning and eyed the angry Alpha. He turned to me and snarled, his blue eyes were gone, and black orbs had taken their place. This was no longer Gunner, this was the darkness in control.
“You knew about this?” he growled at me. I didn’t respond just nodded my head slowly.
“There’s a prophecy about her and you didn’t think to fucking tell me!” he roared. Whisps of black smoke began to seep from his fingers, wrapping around his hands and crawling up his arms. I have read and heard so much about the darkness, about how it works and how it affects the being it controls. But I have never before seen it in action, and as incredible as it was to witness, I know just how dangerous it is. And how dangerous it can make the person wielding it.
“Gunner, please don’t! Remember what she said Gunner! You have to let it go” Zelena screamed from behind me. I could feel her close to my back, peering at Gunner from over my shoulder. But I have no doubt that Alyse is keeping her there. I wondered what she meant by that, who said what? I can contemplate that later, first the Alpha. Gunner looked at Zelena and growled, his lips curled back and his canines extended. I stepped to my right, blocking his view of her and forcing his dark eyes to snap back to me.
“The prophecy is dead” I said with a level voice. Part of the training, speak slow and calm. Do not whisper and do not yell. The darkness feeds on fear and sorrow.
“Then why does she wear another male's mark, why did that fucker think he could Mate her?” he yelled and took a step closer. I stood to my full height and crossed my arms over my chest. Remain passive, do not attack and do not show violence.
“Artemis told me before I killed him, he thought the prophecy spoke of two Mates for the Goddess. He obviously conveyed this to the Origin Alpha” I answered him. My voice still level and even. The back whisps were slowly be drawn back down his arms and into his hands. His anger was still fresh and overbearing, but the darkness was withdrawing.
“And does it? Does she have two Mates?” Gunner growled,
“She does not. Once a True Mate bond is formed, neither Were can claim another, or in turn be claimed by anyone else. There is only you”.
“How do you know all this?” Zelena’s soft voice spoke from behind me. I looked over Gunner’s arms, the black smoke was gone. His eyes still held darkness, but blue was the dominating colour. He is back. For now. I turned around, keeping my half my body still facing Gunner in case the darkness came back out. I looked over Zelena, Alyse had her arms wrapped around Zelena’s shoulders, keeping her from going to Gunner. Just like I expected. Both the women were kneeling on the booth seats, directly behind me.
“I was taught this as a child and continued to learn about it until my early twenties” I told her. She looked at me with such curiosity and fascination. If she keeps looking at me like, I will tell her anything and everything. I will hand her the secrets of the world on a silver platter. I looked back over at Gunner, he was calm again. No signs of black smoke and the scent of anger had decreased significantly.
“You may go to your Mate, Goddess” I said as I stepped to the side. Alyse let her go and Zelena jumped off the seat in into Gunner’s arms. He lifted her up and she wrapped herself around him, just like before. Gunner nuzzled his face into her neck and hair, while Zelena ran her fingers through his hair. They need each other, desperately, their connection is unlike anything I have ever seen before. He won't be able to dispel the darkness without her, I can see that now. After a moment of them embracing each other, Gunner placed Zelena back on her feet. He held her in front of him with his arms around her waist and hands on her stomach.
“You know about this prophecy?” Zelena asked me,
“I do” I answered.
“How do you know so much about all this, about me?” She looked at me intently, those bright golden eyes burning into me, eating away at my resolve. I shifted my eyes to Gunner, who was also watching me. I held his stare, silently asking if I could tell her the truth. He nodded his head and rested his chin on Zelena’s head.
“It’s time” he said.
“Time, time for what?” Zelena asked confused.
“Zelena, there is something I have been meaning to tell you” I said softly. Alyse came to my side and slipped her hand into mine. I was so relieved to feel her support, to have her at my side. I looked down at her and she was smiling back up at me. She nodded her head and gestured to Zelena. She is just as keen for her to learn the truth. I looked back to those beautiful eyes, their deep golden depths were staring at me, waiting.
“What do you know? Tell me please” Zelena rushed out, she was starting to panic.
“Zelena, I do know about this prophecy. I heard it for the first time when I myself was pregnant. I know all about you, your history, your ancestry line, and your Triple Goddess abilities. I know all of this, because a long time ago it was once my history too” I said slowly,
“I don’t understand what you mean” she said as she tipped her head to the side,
“Zelena, sweetheart, I'm your mother”.
