Twin Moon - Chapter 230 - Down Time
Zelena.
That got me mad. I was done with trying to soothe her, and I just wanted to let rip with my own disappointment now.
“I get it alright. Roe has filled me in on the rareness of twins. Trust me, I get it. Only one in a million she-wolves have twins. But is it really so difficult to grasp? I'm a werewolf, and I'm the Triple Goddess, and I have a True Mate. Why not just add one more impossibility into the mix. I've already shattered all of the other Were-kind myths and legends” I snapped at her. I took a small step back and tried to keep myself from shouting so as to not bother G. But I failed. I was nearly yelling by the end of my little rant. Lunaya looked up at me with red eyes and tear stained cheeks.
“You don’t like that I have twins. You've made that very clear. But you either get over it and get on board, or fuck back off out of my life” I hissed. I stepped forward and all but ripped my child out of her arms. I could feel my body shaking and the anger burning through my bones, making them stretch and twist with the need to change. I haven’t been able to change into my wolf since I fell pregnant. But now that the twins were here, I've been feeling the itch to change crawling incessantly under my skin.
“It’s not that. I am happy. I love them, the both of them. There are just things that you don’t understand” she cried desperately, trying to reach for me.
“Then make me understand! Explain it to me!” I yelled. The front door burst open, and Tobias stood there with the small blue blanket in his arm. Roe stormed out from behind Tobias and glared at Lunaya. She stomped over and carefully took G. from my shaking hands.
“What are you doing here? Haven't you upset her enough already” she hissed at Lunaya.
“Please, let me explain. I need to tell you the truth” she pleaded and stepped closer to me. I held up my hand to stop her, just as the bone snapped out to the side. I winced and scrunched up my face in pain. The change hurts so much more when you are fighting against it.
“You need to let your wolf out first” Lunaya said cautiously and took a few steps back.
“I’m fine” I growled through the stinging feeling of my canines trying to extend from my gums.
“She’s right little one. Change first, we can talk with your m...” Tobias started but I cut him off mid-sentence with a threatening growl,
“With Lunaya, we can talk with Lunaya at breakfast. You need to go for a run first” he said calmly and handed B. to Roe.
“Fine” I ground out and stomped down the steps to the clearing. Roe spoke quietly with Tobias as I removed my pyjamas. Lunaya just stood awkwardly on the porch, shifting her gaze between Roe and myself. After a minute Tobias nodded and jogged down the porch steps, pulling his shirt off as he went.
“After you” he said and threw his shirt on the pile where my own clothes were already sitting. I stopped resisting the fire and let it run through me freely. The snapping and cracking of my bones sounded as I ground my teeth together. I felt my tail slowly push through and my claws scratch into the dirt. My face and jaw stretched and elongated into my snout, and the fur burst through my skin. The change was done, and I stood panting softly as I looked up at Tobias.
“Such a pretty little puppy” he teased and went to pat my head. I growled and snapped my teeth at his approaching hand.
“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed” he feigned hurt and dropped his pants. His change was instant. A fact that enraged me further. I growled lowly and bared my teeth.
***You’d be mad too if she was your mother***
***I am still mad, but I believe there’s an explanation***
***I'm not sure I even care anymore***
***You can spout that shit all you want, but I know you better than to believe it***
***Whatever***
I huffed and took off into the trees. Unsurprisingly, they were right, Roe and Tobias. A run is just what I needed. I felt like my body had been curled up into a tiny little ball, locked away inside a tiny wooden box, hidden inside a dark cupboard. But now I was able to stretch out, unfurl my arms and legs and enjoy the freedom and release.
Tobias’s fur and my fur were close in colour. Though, where his fur was black like the forest on a dark night, mine was more like the black sky on a moonless night, so black that it shone with a purple tinge under the light of the stars. I was half the size of Tobias as well. His ginormous wolf looked more like a large mutant bear. I was so small that I could almost blend in with a pack of regular wolves. But Tobias and I still moved through the forest together in perfect synchrony. Where he jumped, I ducked, where he dodged, I weaved. Each of us ran gracefully between the trees and brush. I didn’t even know where we were running to, I was just enjoying the feeling. Who would have known that turning into a wild animal and running through a dark forest, would turn out to be an enjoyable experience. Definitely not me, and definitely not a year ago. Now though, I can't imagine not having this freedom, not having my wolf, and not having my special powers. I can’t see my life like that anymore.
Tobias and I ran for hours, well after the sunrise, and long past the point where the morning air felt crisp and fresh and had turned warm and steamy. I got the scent of a stream off in the distance and ran toward it. I didn’t hesitate and walked straight into the running water. I plopped down and let the stream flow around me, rushing over my tired legs and silky fur. I lapped at it as it flowed past. Tobias dropped his massive hulk like body down on the water's edge, he was panting with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. It was amusing to see such a large terrifying creature with a dopy look on its face. Tobias caught my staring and lifted his head, sucking his tongue back into his mouth.
***What?***
He flashed, with his black wolf eyes glaring at me. I chuckled, if a wolf can chuckle.
***Nothing, you just look adorable***
***I am not adorable***
***You are. Just like a fluffy little black cloud***
Tobias stood up and took up a stance like he was going to attack. Head low, front paws apart, canines on full display, and his hackles at full attention along his spine.
***Still adorable?***
He growled through the flash and his wolf growled as well, shaking the ground beneath him. I climbed out of the water and shook out my fur, spraying the water all over him.
***Yep. Still adorable***
I teased him as I smacked my head into the side of his neck. He huffed annoyed and shoved me back easily with his humongous head. I pretended to trip and fall down, I laid still and whined like I was hurt. Tobias was quickly at my side, sniffing around my neck and shoulder.
***I'm sorry Zelena, I didn’t mean to hurt you***
He flashed in a frantic tone. I quickly whipped over and snapped my jaws around the scruff of his neck, well, as much of it as I could fit in my jaws.
***Just kidding***
I laughed and tried my best to pull him to the ground, but it was like pulling the side of a building. Tobias growled gleefully and rolled down onto his back, making me fly up off the ground and land on top of him. I pushed my front paws into his fluffy chest and shook my head, growling playfully. For anyone watching us wrestle, with the stark size difference between us, I probably looked like an annoying bear cub pestering its mother. He chuckled and growled back at my attempts to get him to move. He managed to get his hind legs under my belly and flipped me over his head, sending me landing onto my back on the ground above his head. He quickly jumped to his feet and wrapped his giant jaws around my neck.
***You need more wolf training***
He teased me and easily fought off my ineffective kicks.
***You need to stop slobbering on me***
Tobias’s wolf chuckled and let me go. I jumped to my feet and shook out my fur.
***Maybe a little extra training wouldn’t hurt, I suppose***
***Thought you might say that. Are you ready to head back?***
***Yes. I'm starving, and I miss my babies***
***Me too***
***You too, you’re starving, or you miss the babies?***
***Both***
***You're a big softy, you know that***
***I'm not soft, or adorable***
***Sure, sure, you keep telling yourself that***
I love making fun of Tobias. No one else would see it, because no one else has the bond that we have. But even now, with all the serious and mysterious changes he went through since that day in the forest with Selene, he is still my closest confidante. Tobias understands me on an entirely different level from everyone else. That’s why he is so good for me. The perfect guardian. The best friend.
