Twin Moon - Chapter 216 - Confrontation

Zelena.

“Venus. Good Goddess she was something else, wasn’t she?” Smith said with a faraway tone.
“Well, I could arrange for another visit from the Luna Eclipse she-wolves. And put in a request for a specific diplomat” Lunaya said from the bottom of the porch steps.
“Hi” I said with a happy smile,
“What are you doing here?” I asked as I struggled to my feet. Thankfully Smith pushed from behind to help me.
“Roe invited us for dinner, I hope you don’t mind” she said as her and Alyse walked up the steps.
“Of course I don’t mind”. I walked over to them and stopped in front of Lunaya as she let down her umbrella. I was set to give her a hug, then second guess myself, which resulted in me flailing my arms back and forth awkwardly. Alyse chuckled and stepped forward, wrapping her arms around my upper body.
“Hi beautiful, you look good” she said into my ear,
“Hi Alyse” I smiled. She cupped my cheeks and smiled back at me. She then let go and stepped back for Lunaya to move forward. I swallowed the hesitation and quickly stepped up to her, wrapping my arms around her waist, I leaned my head into her chest. As I went to step back again, she moved her arms around me to hold me to her. I immediately went stiff, but after a quick second, my body relaxed into her embrace. I found myself sniffing her, breathing in her scent. I listened to her heartbeat thumping and the air expel from her lungs. It was weird. The feeling of being in her arms. It felt so familiar and safe. I could have stayed there for hours. Eventually Lunaya let me go and stepped back. She wiped freshly fallen tears from her cheeks and sniffled. Alyse moved to her side and sniffled as well.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to be all emotional” Lunaya chuckled awkwardly,
“I just… I never thought I would get to hold you in my arms again” she said sadly with a forced half smile. Tears started to well in my eyes as I gazed at her. I can see traces of myself in her features. The shape of her eyes and her curve of her chin. We have some similarities, here and there, but not as many as I imagined. When I was a child, I pictured her often. I thought of what she looked like, the shape of her smile and the sound of her laugh. I wondered what kind of perfume she would wear and the colour of her eyes. I pictured her a thousand different ways. But now that I'm looking at her beautiful face, my imagination never did her justice.
“I'm sorry that happened to you” I said sadly,
“Oh, sweetheart, you have nothing to be sorry for” Lunaya said as she stepped forward and took my hands.
“If anything, it’s me that should apologise. But I'm afraid there aren’t enough hours in the day to express how truly sorry I am. I should have never given up. I should have fought harder for you”
“No. You really don’t have to. I'm sorry for what I said to you. It was wrong of me and not at all warranted” I said with a shake of my head.
“You were right to say what you did. Never apologise for feeling the way you feel” she replied and fondly stroked my cheek,
“But I need you to know that I was wrong. I know you tried. You did your best. You fought hard and you gave up so many years of your life. I'm sorry that I made you feel like it wasn’t enough. My childhood, the attack on your village and the death of my father, none of that was your fault”. Lunaya pulled me into her arms once again and held my head to her chest.
“Goddess bless you” she cried.
“I’m so sorry to interrupt” Roe’s voice came from the door. Lunaya let me go and we both stepped back from each other, each of us wiping the fresh tears from our face. I turned to smile at Roe, who was looking back at me with love and pride shining from her eyes.
“Dinner is on, ladies” she said and looked at each of us,
“And Smith” she said smiling at him.
“Thank you, we’re coming” I said back. I went to walk for the door when Lunaya took my hand again.
“Zelena, when you have some time, there are some things that we really need to talk about” Lunaya said urgently. I was actually a little shocked by the alarm in her voice.
“Okay, sure. Tomorrow?” I said slowly,
“Yes tomorrow, I'll come by after breakfast” she said with a shallow exhale. Alyse took her hand and looked up at her proudly. I don’t like this, I think this may be something big. Great. Now I feel nauseous.
“Come on, you need to eat, you look green” Smith laughed and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. We went into the dining room to sit and wait for the others. Lunaya and Alyse sat across from me, leaving the head of the table for Gunner and the two seats to their right for Roe and Lupus. As Smith sat down at my right, the place that Tobias would usually take, Lupus came in. He smiled and greeted me with a kiss on the cheek before greeting Lunaya, Alyse and Smith. A minute later Gunner came in with Felix hot on his heels. I kissed Gunner before he sat down and then I smiled to Felix. Conversation heated up all around me. I sat back in my chair, closed my eyes and rubbed my belly as I listened to the happy voices. A minute later Tobias entered, I opened my eyes and peered at him. He was glaring at Smith as Smith was talking animatedly with Lunaya and Alyse.
***Let it go, please***
I pleaded with him through our bond. He visibly clenched his teeth, fighting the growl that was begging to be let out. The room seemed to get quiet as everyone looked from Tobias to Smith. Then he looked at me and nodded before taking a seat next to Felix. In came Nat, dragging Alpha Lace behind her by the hand. She said hello to Gunner as Lace stood tall and still behind her. I glanced at Smith who was watching them closely. Smith stood up and I grabbed at his wrist in a panic. He patted my hand and smiled at me with a nod, mouthing the words ‘it’s okay’. He stepped around my chair and walked over to Alpha Lace. Gunner tensed as soon as he saw Smith in front of the Alpha. I held my breath, ready for fists to start flying. The whole room was quiet, all of us watching what Smith was going to do next. Nat placed herself between the two of them, with her hands behind her back, holding onto Lace’s shirt. Smith took a deep breath and smiled, then held out his hand for Alpha Lace. Nat’s eyes went wide and Lace stepped forward, taking Smith’s hand. After a second Lace pulled Smith forward and pressed his forehead to Smiths. Sevasmo. That’s a good sign. Smiths mouthed moved as he whispered something to Lace. Lace laughed and stood up straight, letting Smith go. He patted Smith on the shoulder and pulled Nat to his side, placing a kiss on her cheek.
“You don’t have to worry about that” Lace chuckled. Smith turned and came back to his seat beside me, as Nat and Lace went to sit at the other end of the table. Nat grabbed Lace’s face and spread kisses over his cheeks and lips. I turned to Smith and leaned into his ear.
“What did you say to him?” I asked in a whisper,
“I told him that if he hurts her, I will kill him” he answered with a shrug. I blurted out a snorted laugh, and quickly covered my mouth with my hand. The image of Smith trying to knock Alpha Lace over, hitting his fists against his chest, like a toddler hitting their parent filled my head. Smith is more than capable of hurting someone, just probably not a Were like Alpha Lace.
“What?” Smith grumbled and frowned at me,
“Nothing. That was a really nice thing you did” I told him proudly. He shrugged again and flicked my nose with his finger,
“I’d do it for you too”
“And that’s why we love you” I beamed up at him.
