Mother of the Moon - Chapter 103 - Time to go
Lunaya.
Only twenty more minutes. The alarm will go off in twenty minutes and then it’s time to get up, get dressed and leave Luna Eclipse. I have laid in bed wide awake for just over an hour now, the excitement running through me just won’t let me sleep. Even falling asleep to begin with was difficult. Alyse, as usual, is passed out and curled up under my arm. She needs the sleep, so I won’t move yet and risk waking her.
Seventeen minutes. If only I had the will power to stop staring at my watch. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine what my child might look like today. Would she resemble me at all? I picture her with soft brown hair like my own but with Micha’s pale skin and bright golden-brown eyes. Both Micha and I are tall and muscular, so I would assume that our offspring would fare the same height and strength. Though being the chosen daughter of the Goddess and being blessed with the power of telekinesis, that is strength enough alone.
“I can basically hear your thoughts flying around like rabid bats” Alyse grumbled. I tightened my grip and looked down at her. She still had her eyes closed and her face held a small smile.
“How’d you sleep beautiful?” I asked her,
“Mm great actually” she moaned rolling onto her stomach. She lifted her body slightly and rested her head on her crossed arms over my stomach.
“Did you sleep at all?” she asked with a frown.
“A few hours, not as many as I should have though”
“I can tell”
“You wound me, are you saying I’m not pretty?”
“No, I’m saying you could have used an extra hour or two of beauty sleep” she chuckled. I fake gasped and pretended to swoon, placing my hand across my forehead.
“Oh, stop it. You know you’re always beautiful in my eyes” she laughed and pinched my cheek.
“Lucky. You nearly broke my heart” I chuckled sitting up on the bed.
Right then, the alarm went off and startled us both. I looked at the beeping watch on my wrist and tapped the face to silence the alarm. I smiled back at Alyse and held my arm out to show her the time.
“The watch has spoken” I said with a smirk.
“Okay boss watch” she replied with a smile and sat up on the bed with her feet off the edge.
We both quietly got dressed in our thick coats and double socks, lost to our own thoughts. If Alyse could change forms, we all would have travelled in our wolf form. It would have been quicker to get down the mountain but also harder to carry our bags in our jaws. I pulled on my boots and tightly folded the small blanket and put it in my backpack. I had our bags packed and ready to go the moment we found out that my child was alive. Styling my hair into a low ponytail, I secured it with my hair band and pulled my beanie down over the top. I tucked my gloves into my coat pocket and looked over at Alyse. She pulled on her coat and turned to face me with a closed lipped smile.
“Ready?” I asked her,
“Ready” she nodded.
Picking up our bags, we headed out into the cold and to the dining hall. Elaine and the three other warriors were already there eating breakfast, accompanied by Alpha Hina. We dropped our bags by the door and walked over to the table of women. With the five of them sitting there in close proximity, the large picnic table looked like a child’s playset. Hina is tall and muscular but Elaine, she has a very large frame for a she-wolf. Her short black hair melted into the base of her thick neck and wide set shoulders pathed the way for her large bosom and square torso. She towered over me, which is impressive given that I am just shy of six feet tall.
“Good morning ladies” Hina smiled as she stood up to greet us.
“Good morning Alpha” I replied with a small nod.
“Your breakfast is here, ready for you” she motioned to two plates in the middle of the table. One of the warriors grabbed the plates and passed them up to us.
“Oh, thank you” I said taking the plates. We sat down at the end of the group of women and ate our bacon, eggs and pancakes.
“Everything is ready for your trip, I have been discussing the finer details with Beta Elaine” Hina said as she moved down the table to sit next to me.
“Thank you for that” I mumbled with a mouthful of eggs,
“It’s not a problem. All you have to do is seek out the Lua Chei pack in the Southwest of Nova Scotia. I have come to understand that the pack run the Trout Point Lodge, it’s their main source of income. I’ve booked your first two nights at the lodge, so once you make it there it shouldn’t be too difficult to make the rest of your travel plans. Given that the Alpha cooperates”.
“Thank you Alpha, that is very kind of you” Alyse spoke from beside me.
“You’re most welcome” Hina replied, throwing Alyse a wink.
“Excuse me?” Elaine called from the end of the table and all three of us turned to see her.
“Once you have finished eating, we need to set off. It will take at least nine hours to get down the mountain in human form” she said standing at the end of the table.
“Okay. We’ll be ready in ten” I responded, trying my best to ignore Elaine’s somewhat hostile tone. She is still not exactly happy about travelling with Alyse, a half-breed, but because her Alpha has okayed it, she has no say in the matter. Her digs at Alyse have been subtle and she has placed her hatred, or caution, or whatever it is she feels towards Alyse, to the side for the time being. We will just have to wait and see how this whole adventure with her turns out.
Alyse and I finished our breakfast under the watchful eye of Hina. I gathered our plates and was about to stand when Hina placed her hand on my shoulder.
“If I could have a minute” she said gently, forcing me back down,
“Of course” I nodded, sitting and turning to face her. She kept her hand on my shoulder and leaned forward slightly.
“I just wanted to tell you that if for any reason things don’t work out, or if you don’t wish to stay with your daughters pack, you are always welcome here”.
Hina averted her eyes to Alyse and smiled softy.
“I mean the both of you. I am still very curious about your half-breed abilities” she said with a lustful smirk. A pang of jealousy ran through me, but it was quickly washed away by the memory of our almost threesome. Holy fuck that was hot! I would definitely be up for another go.
“But besides that fascinating and mysterious aspect, you are both wonderful she-wolves and I can see your permanent residence at Luna Eclipse having and excellent effect on our community. Please think about returning, even if only for a visit”.
Alyse placed her hand on my shoulder and leaned forward so that her chin was on her hand. I rubbed my cheek against the top of her head and smiled. I believe that we could make a really good life for ourselves here with Luna Eclipse. The pack already feels more like a home than anywhere else we have been so far. As much I could enjoy living here, there is something pulling us away. Even if my daughter doesn’t accept us and doesn’t want me to stay there, I could never live so far away from her. And New Zealand is a world away.
“Thank you Hina. You have no idea how much that means to us” I said softly as I placed my hand over her own.
“I can assure you that you haven’t seen the last us. Not yet anyway”.
Hina gazed at us for a moment, rubbing her thumb over my hand. Without a word she stood up from the table and halted at my side. She leaned over and placed a kiss on the top of my head and gently rubbed her fingers through my hair, then repeated the act for Alyse as well. With that she left the dining hall.
I turned to Alyse to see that tears had stained her cheeks. I pulled her onto my lap and wrapped my arms around her waist. She sobbed quietly into my shoulder for a minute while I soothingly rubbed my hand up and down her back. There was nothing to say. I know we are giving up a good thing here to chase a long-lost dream, but how could we not. It could turn out shit. My child could reject us, imprison us or just kill us. But Alyse knows that I will never, could never, truly rest until I see for myself.
“It’s time to go ladies” Elaine called from the door.
“Thank you, Elaine, we’re ready” I replied with a nod.
“Come on love, let’s get a move on” I said softly, prying Alyse from my chest. I wiped the tears from her pink cheeks and smoothed down her stray hairs. I cupped her cheeks and placed a soft kiss on her full lips.
“We will come back” I said firmly.
“I know, it’s just this place is the best we have come across. I’m worried is all”
“I know, me too”.
After a brief pause, Alyse got up off my lap and walked to our bags by the door, with me following behind. We picked up our bags and headed out into the small clearing in front of the dining hall. The snow had stopped falling through the night, but the ground was covered in knee deep fresh powder and the wind was harsh against my bare cheeks. It was still dark and too early for the other pack members to be awake. Pappi stood holding onto Hina’s arm, as they said their goodbyes to Elaine and the warriors. Alyse and I stood to the side to give them some privacy. It didn’t take long for Elaine to embrace Hina, kiss Pappi on the temple and turn to walk over to us. The other warriors joined her, and we all started to make our way out of the village. I stopped at the edge of the tree line and turned back to look at Hina. She was still standing and watching us closely. I offered her a wave and in reply she nodded her head slowly. I turned my back to her and caught up to the others. It took Alyse and I three days to climb this mountain and find Luna Eclipse. Now, we were going to try and get back down it in just one.
