Mother of the Moon - Chapter 92 - There is another

Lunaya.

I landed hard on my hands and knees on the fur pelt, the pelt that we were just fucking on not ten minutes ago. Alyse’s body was thrown beside me and I grabbed her to pull her into my embrace.
“What the fuck?” I snarled at the woman who dropped her, pushing down the urge to attack was more than difficult.
“Do one of you want to tell me what the hell is going on?” I demanded. I checked over Alyse’s face and neck for injuries, she appears fine, no visible marks. My question was ignored and when I looked up, I was instead met with glares from the multiple women standing around us. I went to stand but was pushed back down onto my knees. I turned my face and growled at the woman holding me. She pulled her hand back and frowned down at me, her lips curling back over her teeth in a snarl. ‘Touch me again’ I thought a silent warning glowering back up at her.
“You’ve been lying to me” Hina’s voice came from behind a wall in front of us. I snapped my head back around as he stepped out from behind it. She was now dressed in some kind of woven tribal dress with fur and leather patches, covered by a large fur coat. She stood before us with her arms crossed over her chest, scowling down at us.
“I haven’t lied about anything” I spat. She stepped forward and slapped the back of her hand across my cheek, my head snapped to the side and the skin on my cheek throbbed instantly. Alyse growled loudly and went to stand, I grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back down.
***Don’t attack, I’m okay***
***She fucking hit you***
***I’m okay, it’s okay***
The metallic taste of blood filled my mouth, I moved my tongue and felt a small cut on the inside of my cheek. I turned back to Hina with a frown and spat my blood at her feet.
“I haven’t lied about anything” I repeated lowly, my voice dripping with disdain and a soft growl coming through on the last word. She growled and crouched down in front of me, grabbing my chin and lifting my face to look at her.
“I will give you one chance and one chance only, do you hear me?” she growled. I nodded my head as much as I could with her death grip on my chin.
“What do you know of the Triple Goddess?” she hissed. My eyes flew open wide, and my heart just about jumped right out of my chest. Beside me I heard Alyse take a sharp intake of air. So, she does know about my history, maybe not everything but she definitely knows something. I stared into her face, I don’t know what I was looking for, answers maybe. But to what, I don’t even know the questions.
“The Triple Goddess” I said quietly. She squeezed my chin and growled moving her face closer to mine, I could feel her hot breath brush over my cheeks. Her eyes looked wild and full of fury, her lips pulled back over her teeth and her canines extended before my eyes.
“Ahh… okay” I groaned, the pressure on my chin starting to ache.
“The last Triple Goddess died two hundred and sixty-four years ago. She had very limited powers but was able to move small amounts of water. She died in her sleep at the age of ninety-six. There hasn’t been another since then” I spoke softly and slowly. Hina let go of my chin and roughly threw my face out of her hand. She stood up and huffed in annoyance.
“I’m not looking for a history lesson, Lunaya. I’m not asking you about the past” she snapped. What could she be talking about if not the past? What else is there to know? I raked my brain trying to figure out what she could know, what is she asking me.
“SPEAK OMEGA!” she boomed, her Alpha power rolling off her.
Alyse instinctually lowered herself to the ground, I however wasn’t affected by her Alpha demand. Could be because of Rhea, could be because of my lineage, who knows but I have never felt the effect of an Alpha’s anger or command. I looked up at her and she seemed surprised. I guess she expected me to cower from her.
“I’m sorry Alpha, I don’t understand. What are you asking me?” I asked her firmly while keeping eye contact. She just about lunged at me, her claws only inches from my face, when a soft voice interrupted.
“Alpha, there is no need for violence”.
I turned to see Pappi hobbling through the door and towards us slowly. One of the women ran to her and took her arm to help her walk. They made their way next to us and Pappi sat down on a chair that was placed there for her.
“Pappi” Hina growled.
“My dear” she returned with a small smile.
“What do you know about this?” Hina glared at her, folding her arms across her chest.
“I know that you won’t get any answers from this one. She doesn’t know what you want to know”.
Wait what, what don’t I know? Is this what she was talking about the other day? Is this what I was destined to be here for? My mind began to swirl with questions. Excitement and fear swarmed through me and I thought that I may start shaking. I took a deep breath to control myself, the last think I need right now is more reasons for Hina to kill us.
“What don’t I know?” I demanded, moving my gaze from Hina to Pappi and back again. Hina looked down at me and snarled but I didn’t back down.
“My scouts have brought back reports of young woman claiming to be the Triple Goddess” said Hina looking away from me.
“That’s not possible” I said softly. My stomach clenched and I could feel the sorrow and anger seeping into my heart. How dare some little no one claim such a divine right. That hope for the world died long ago. Taking with it my own hope.
“And how would you know that?” snapped Hina.
“I just do” I whispered dropping my head.
“I SAID HOW!?” she boomed, her voice bouncing around the room. I could feel her standing over me, her anger was coming off her like hot waves of lava.
“Because I am the last daughter of Selena” I yelled look up at her.
“Since the destruction of Moon Light, I am all that’s left” my voice broke slightly on the last few words. The tears I was holding back spilled over and rolled down my cheeks. Hina looked down at me, her face contorting between anger and pity. The room was deathly silent with only the sounds of my harsh breathing filling the void.
“So, you are from the line of Selene’s chosen daughters?” Hina asked, her voice still firm but a little softer now.
“I was” I croaked,
“Either you are, or you are not, which is it Lunaya?”
“I failed the Goddess. She gave me a task and I failed her. I have no right to claim her as my ancestor any longer” I cried out loudly, frowning up at Hina’s shocked face.
“No sweet child” Pappi said softly. I snapped my head to look at her and she was looking in my direction with a soft smile wrinkling her cheeks.
“There is another” she said.
“There can’t be” I disagreed with a shake of my head.
“Explain Pappi” Hina demanded. Pappi tilted her head to the side and breathed heavily, after a beat she straightened and smiled again.
“Your child lives”.
I stared at Pappi’s face scrutinizing every inch of skin, every wrinkle and every line. I was looking, searching for answers, for the truth. She can’t be serious, it’s not possible. I looked at Hina who was staring at me with a blank expression. I turned to look at Alyse who’s mouth was hung open and her eyes bulging, her skin had turned pale and her lip was shaking. My child lives? My child. It can’t be. No. How? No, no, no, no, no. I turned to look back at Pappi but the whole room continued to turn around me. I couldn’t see straight, everything was blurry. I tried to take a deep breath, but my lungs wouldn’t expand. They stopped working completely. I sucked in a mouth full of air, trying again fruitlessly to breathe. Nothing. My child? Oh Goddess, forgive me.
