Mother of the Moon - Chapter 140 - Call the Beta

Lunaya.

Zelena was on the floor, unconscious. I was still holding her hand in mine, but everything else was a blur. I felt dizzy, and nauseous. What the fuck just happened? Before I could gather my thoughts and get my bearings back, I was hauled off my feet and my back was slammed hard against the wall. I could swear there will be an indent of my body in the plastering. A feral growl made the whole room shake and I was snapped back to reality. My airway was being blocked and my feet were no longer touching the ground. But that wasn’t what concerned me. What did, was my child, laying comatose on the floor.
The room burst into a whirlwind of commotion. Gunner and his mother ran to the side of my daughter. Elaine, Alyse and the others all prepared to attack. The sounds of growls and yelling echoed around the room until it all mixed together in one undecipherable sound. I tried to kick off of the wall and rush to Zelena’s side, but my movements were blocked. I lifted my head to glare at the one holding me. It was Tobias, the colossal guardian. His wild black eyes bore into me furiously. His canines were extended and a bead of saliva was dripping down his sharp fang, giving his expression that much more of a dangerous and feral look.
“What did you do?” he roared at me. I gripped hold of the hand on my neck and tried to lift myself, to get a little more air in through my constricted windpipe.
“Release her!” Elaine growled and took a menacing step towards where Tobias had me pinned to the wall. Lupus and another red-haired male that I didn’t know, jumped in between us and kept them from getting any closer.
“Stay where you are” the young male demanded. Cleo stepped towards him and growled down at him ferociously. I could see the hair on the back of his neck stand up, his nature called for his wolf to come forward, to protect against the threat Cleo issued. But he didn’t change instead he stood up taller and growled back. Brave lad.
“Let her go now” Alyse barked, I snapped my eyes to her and concern for her safety flooded my thoughts. If they hurt her, I will kill them all, regardless of if they are my daughter's pack. Tobias pulled my body forward and slammed it back into the wall, his way of bringing my attention back to him. My head hit the wall with a thud, and I turned my gaze back to the giant Were.
“What did you do to her?” he growled, leaning his face closer to mine, his canines bared and ready to rip my face off.
“I didn’t do anything, I swear it” I gasped out from beneath his tightening grip,
“Your lying” he snarled and snapped his jaws at my face,
“I’m not. I wouldn’t hurt her”. Gunner stood up from Zelena’s side and stepped up beside Tobias. I now had the guardian and the Mate looking at me murderously.
“What have you done?” Gunner snarled, Tobias squeezed my throat and a gagged gasp left my mouth. Phoebe launched herself forward and collided with Tobias’s side. I expected him to go down, to stumble, or to at least move. But nothing. Phoebe made no impact on his hold on me. Instead, Tobias grabbed the back of her neck with his other hand and threw her across the room in a very impressive show of strength. If it weren’t for the fact that this monster was about to kill me, I would probably be quite impressed by him. Phoebe hit the wall and a large crack appeared where she collided, and then she dropped to the floor. This had all the Luna Eclipse she-wolves, and Alyse, growling and snapping their teeth. They were ready to fight, and they wanted to.
“Stop!’ I yelled and held my hand out to them. Alyse obeyed, and although she was still furious, she backed off and stopped growling. Venus retracted her canines and her growls quieted down. Cleo and Elaine however, they were lethal. Cleo was flipping her gaze back and forth between the young male and Tobias. Her lips were curled back, and she was almost at the point of changing. Elaine completely ignored the large frame of Lupus in front of her and was staring directly at Tobias. If looks could kill, he would have been set on fire, covered in flesh eating spiders and buried in a desolate swamp. I tapped on Tobias’s hand in hopes that he would loosen his grip. He did, by the tiniest little bit, not enough to catch my breath though.
“I did not hurt her, I swear it. I don’t know what happened” I choked, Gunner growled and leaned in close,
“Why should I believe you?” he snarled, his hot breath hit my face like a hard slap. Tobias’s grip tightened again and I felt myself gasp for air.
“You’re killing her!” Alyse screamed, her pain and panic was evident in her voice.
“Then she dies. If someone doesn’t start talking soon, then you all fucking die” Gunner hissed at Alyse. My head began to feel quite heavy and black spot appeared across my vision. I was about to lose consciousness, I could feel the darkness lingering close.
“Son, she can’t talk to you if she is dead. Let her go” Romeá said from beside Gunner. He growled with his teeth bared, the sound vibrated around the room, shaking the furniture. The Alpha aura was strong and if I wasn’t already being suffocated, I would have really choked on it. Just as my eyes began to flutter, I was released. I dropped to the floor and my lungs screamed for air. I lay on my back with my eyes closed, taking huge gulps of oxygen. After a minute I opened my eyes and looked over to my daughter. Her head was cradled in Gunner’s sisters lap and she looked completely peaceful, just like she was sleeping soundly.
My shoulder was grabbed roughly, and I was pulled to my feet. Tobias held me against the wall once again, only this time his forearm was across my upper chest, instead of his hand around my neck. He and Gunner glared at me with the utmost hatred.
“Tell me what you did to her! Poison? A spell? What is it?” Gunner demanded,
“I promise you Alpha Gunner, I have not harmed her. I would never harm her” I told him, letting all the truth and sincerity mix with my words. He looked unconvinced.
“As soon as you touched her, she passed out. That is not a coincidence” Tobias said accusingly. I dropped my eyes to Zelena, she was still laying on the floor, out cold. Maybe it isn’t an accident. Maybe it has something to do with my being her mother. I don’t know. Maybe it’s a bloodline thing or a bond thing. I have no clue. But how am I meant to prove my innocence without revealing my secret? I looked to Alyse and Elaine, they were both watching me with careful eyes. Phoebe had now stood back up with the other she-wolves, looking at little angry or disappointed with herself. Alyse had wet tear stains down her cheeks and Elaine looked ready to kill. I have an idea, maybe a stupid one, but an idea non the less.
“Call your Beta” I requested. Both Tobias and Gunner raised their eyebrows, only Gunner looked more suspicious of me now.
“Excuse me?” Gunner blanked, Roe grabbed her son’s shoulder and pulled him down to her level so that she could whisper in his ear. Luckily for me they were close enough that I could still hear her,
“Cole said something the other day, about her, about who she really is, or something like that” she quickly whispered. Gunner reared his head back and gazed at his mother before his eyes flicked back to me. His suspicion had turned to anger once again, his eyebrows furrowed together and the corner of his lips turned up in a snarl.
“Why wouldn’t he come to me with this information?” Gunner hissed back at his mother quietly,
“You haven’t exactly been on good terms love. I think you need to call him in now. It's time, whether he is ready or not” she said softly, with a forlorn expression. I knew something was going on, I sensed a lot of animosity when I spoke to the Beta, Cole. He was grieving, but his grief had been fixed to anger, anger that he directed to the Triple Goddess. Perhaps that is the cause of the tension between the Alpha and his Beta. It was a long shot, hoping the Beta would vouch for me. And now that my suspicions of a rift between the two has been verified, my chances of Gunner taking Cole at his word has dropped significantly.
Gunner huffed and closed his eyes for a brief moment, before opening them again and glaring at me. In no time at all, Cole burst through the door with an annoyed look on his face. He froze in place and looked around the room, taking in the scene before him. He looked down at Zelena on the floor, and for just a quick flash, there was concern in his eyes. He quickly put back on his nonchalant mask and turned to Gunner.
“What is this about?” he asked as his eyes found mine. He stepped forward and glared at Tobias, a low growl bubbled from behind his clenched teeth.
“Release her. Now!” he demanded.
“I don’t take orders from you, Beta” Tobias snapped back, spitting the word ‘Beta’. Apparently Cole has upset a lot of people around here.
