Mother of the Moon - Chapter 172 - To the Farmhouse

Lunaya.

We kept running towards the farmhouse but were stopped when we came to another battalion. This one however, much bigger than the last. Without a pause we all dived in and fought. Blood was splattering everywhere and pained whimpers and dying howls echoed around us. It was a gruesome bloody scene. Not one that I ever wanted to see again. Not after Moon Light, not after what the hunters did to my pack. I've never liked killing. Hunter or Were. A life is a life.
I saw a large dark brown and red wolf, rip the head off one of the Luna Eclipse she-wolves. With Cleo at my side, we both bounded for the large wolf. I lept forward and landed myself half on its back, while Cleo got hold of one of its hind legs. I was snapping my jaws at its neck, trying to get a good hold on it, when it bucked me off. The wolf whipped around and slashed its claws over Cleo’s shoulder. She growled in pain but didn’t let go of its leg. As the wolf went for her again, I charge forward and got its front paw between my teeth.
***Pull Cleo!***
I screamed through our flash. At the same time, we each pulled as hard as we could. Cleo ripped the back leg from its body, as I did with its front. The large wolf howled out and fell to the ground. With only two legs it could no longer stand, but it also wasn’t dead. Cleo stalked over and pressed her paw to the wolfs neck. And with one swift swipe, she tore open its throat. Blood spurted from the open gashes and then settled to a steady stream, slowly watering the earth beneath it with its thick red blood. With a nod to Cleo, we each jumped onto our next target. We stayed close to each other, helping each other when we needed. Cleo is a fantastic fighter, and a brilliant battle partner. We can read each other and anticipate each other’s movements without needing to talk.
The last of the battalion was finally brought down, our side this time taking a heavier hit. There was still a lot of us, but many of the warriors were looking a little worse for wear. Some baring large slashes and patches of missing fur, others with missing ears and blood-soaked fur. We had taken a beating. Finally, I could see parts of the farmhouse through the trees now. We are getting really close. As we began to move in again, a shudder inducing chill ran up my spine. My fur stood up straight and electricity danced across my body. A second later, a hard wind slammed against us all. The force of it was like a large wave of water. But it wasn’t just any kind of wind, it was pure energy. It pulled at us, all of us, dragging our bodies to the ground. My body felt heavy, I felt compelled to drop to my stomach. But I didn’t. I managed to stay on my feet. Everyone else however, they were all laid flat on their bellies, whimpering and whining. It’s from Zelena. Her power. This can’t be good.
***What the fuck is this?***
Cleo growled through our flash. I looked over at her, and she was on her side, burying her nose into the dirt. Hina was not far beyond her, on her belly and scratching at her head with her paw.
***It’s Zelena. Her power. She must be in trouble.***
***She can do this at such a distance?***
***Clearly. Tell Hina to flash Gunner, he has to find her now!***
I struggled on my paws but was able to walk over to Cleo and nudge her with my muzzle. She whined and pushed her head into mine. The weight of the power was strong, I can only imagine what Cleo and the others must be feeling. I was taught as a child, by the Elder Maxine, that a Triple Goddess cannot use her power over her family. It was deemed so by The Moon Goddess, after the children of Lycaon began to turn on each other. Most of those tales have been lost to time, but it is told that a war broke out between them. Selena on one side and the eldest son, Gill, on the other.
After a few minutes, the heaviness dissipated, and the wolves began to stand up again. I went to Hina and nudged her side.
***Did Gunner find her yet?***
I asked Cleo, expecting her to be the middleman between Hina and myself.
***Yes.***
That was it, just ‘yes’. I don't know if the simple answer should please me or concern me. Lupus’s wideset grey wolf walked over to us, growled and shook his head, and then awkwardly trotted off towards the farmhouse, with the remaining Tri-Moon warriors following. Tri-Moon have been hit hard. They have already lost many fighters, and we haven’t even breached the house yet. Lupus himself is covered in blood and slashes. Luna Eclipse have only lost two. But those two will hit them hard. We came to the edge of the tree line, before the area opens up into the large clearing that is the front of the property. The Tri-Moon and Luna Eclipse warriors spread out through the trees. Off to the left is where Lua Chei were meant to be coming in from. But so far, no sign of them. Over to the right is where Howlers and the rest of Blue Moon are coming in from. As I was watching the tree line, I spotted a big dark grey wolf standing beside a large tan wolf. Alpha Lace and Alpha Marius.
The house was teeming with wolves. Some walking around the building, other stationed at the doors, some even on the roof. Whatever or whoever they are guarding, they must be important. As we stood watching the house, the sounds of more fighting was filtering through the air. This isn’t over. Not by a long shot. A figure in the upstairs window caught my eye. Brown coat, grey beard, dark beady eyes. Artemis. Finally. I threw my head back and howled into the air, giving the signal to attack. It wasn’t for me to make the call. But I was done waiting. The signal was returned on all sides, and then a stampede of wolves charged for the farmhouse.
We were met with more wolves, a lot more of them, filing out of the house and lining themselves up as a barricade. I hit the wall of wolves' head on, taking the leg of a smaller brown wolf between my jaws and throwing my head to the side. The leg ripped away effortlessly, and as the little wolf lifted its head to howl, I slashed my claws across its throat. A sharp pain erupted down my back, and I turned to see a grey wolf with its claws buried into my fur. I tossed myself at the ground in a rolling motion, dislodging the wolfs hold on me. I turned and jumped around as the wolf was getting back up off the ground, lunging myself forward, I grabbed the soft of its neck between my teeth and ripped the flesh away. A large gaping hole was left, seeping blood down the front of its body. The wolf fell to the ground, and I spat the chunk of meat from my mouth. As I turned to the next, I was tackled to the ground. A black wolf was on top of me with its teeth digging into the tender spot between my hip and stomach. I growled and kicked at the black wolf, but it didn’t budge. I could feel my flesh starting to rip at the sharpness of its fangs. Lupus’s large grey wolf appeared over me, and he grabbed the black wolf by its neck, tossing it away like garbage. I got back to my feet and immediately saw an opening in the enemy line. I pushed off hard from my paws, sending myself leaping through the air over a tan wolf, and landing on the ground behind the rest of their line. The tan wolf watched me as I went, but before it got the chance to alert the others, Lupus sliced his claws through its throat. Lupus nodded to me and turned to his next target.
I quickly dashed through the yard towards a Were standing by the door facing in the other direction. I leaped onto his back and buried my teeth into the soft flesh of his human form. He coughed and spluttered and dropped to the ground. The noise he made alerted another Were, who came charging towards me. He dived for my legs, and I jumped, kicking him to the ground with my back legs as I leapt over him. He rolled over at the same time that I turned around. He started to change form, so I quickly bit down into his upper thigh, piercing the femoral artery. He screamed out and his semi changed face reverted back to human. Moving as quickly as I could, I lunged for his neck and wrapped my jaws around his throat. I cut of his scream as I ripped the front of his neck away. By this point, the white of my fur was now red with blood. I got to the building and ran along the side until I came to a door. I snapped my head up and to the side and shook out my fur, then slowly stood up in my human form.
