Twin Moon - Chapter 252 - The Blame

Zelena.

“Aurora...” Selene started, but she was cut short,
“My name is Whiskey. Aurora died with her dad. I never want to see you again” she hissed venomously. For being just a child, there was so much coldness and so much animosity in her. It was surprising, and it hurt even me.
“As you wish” Selene said sadly. She reached her hand forward and placed her palm on Aurora’s cheek. Aurora’s eyes rolled back, and after a moment, she slowly laid down on the mattress.
“What did you do?” I asked urgently as I looked down at Aurora. Selene stood up effortlessly, like she was gliding, and looked at me over her shoulder.
“I took her memories” she answered like it was no big deal. I held down the scoff I wanted to let loose. I know firsthand what a big deal it really is.
“She hates you” I said sadly,
“She does” Selene agreed.
“But why you?”
“She needed someone to blame, for all the monstrous atrocities that she endured during the first ten years of her life”
“And she blames you?”
“Yes”.
The room was freezing, and my body was still shaking from the shock of what I witnessed. Could she not have explained this situation without making me watch my father die. How could that have been helpful? I would have understood without watching it happen for myself.
“Why did you make me watch that?” I asked softly. I was on the tipping point between crying in hysterics and just shutting myself down.
“To understand, you needed to see” she repeated the same line from before,
“I didn’t need to see that, why would you think watching my father have his throat cut would be in any way helpful to me” I said with a half sob and half yell.
“There was more to see than just that”
“It’s hard to think of anything other than that right now” I scoffed.
“Go back to your Mate, your sister, and your loved ones. You will see, when you are ready to see” she said softly and turned to face me completely.
“Wait” I started, but I was too late. Selene waved her hand, and my body was falling, flying backwards through the air. I awoke with a jolt and flew upright on the couch. Gunner’s face was the first thing I saw, his worried eyes and furrowed brows looking down at me from where he was perched at my side. Next thing was Tobias, he too was looking down at me, though his expression was more guarded. He held both his hand on my ankles, once I saw them there, I could feel the soft vibration and the warmness. He was doing the energy thing again. I turned back to Gunner, met his worried gaze, and the dam broke. I tossed my arms around his neck, buried my face into his warmth, and howled with grief.
“It’s okay, you’re okay” Gunner cooed softly. He slowly rubbed his hands up and down my back, while Tobias kept hold of my ankles.
“He died. I watched him die” I cried out harshly,
“Who died my love, what happened?” Gunner said calmly,
“My dad, Trevor killed him and she made me watch” I wailed.
“It’s alright, it was just a dream” he offered, trying to calm me down. I didn’t have the emotional balance to explain right now.
After a while of intense sobbing, I very slowly started to calm down. As my heart rate steadied, I could feel the pain in my body. My head was throbbing terribly, and I felt exhausted, like I ran a marathon.
“What happened?” I asked through heavy breaths, as I peeled my face from Gunner’s shirt.
“You hit your head” Gunner answered,
“I figured. But what happened with Aurora and me?” I said plainly,
“Well, you grabbed Whiskey’s hand, then the both of you just like convulsed” He answered confused,
“What do you mean?”
“You both lifted off the ground a few inches. Then, you were kind of shaking, while she was stiff as a rock. There was this weird swirling light sort of thing surrounding you. Then boom, you flew apart like you touched a livewire or something. Then when you landed on the driveway, you smacked your head. But whiskey landed on the car, so the windscreen broke her fall a bit more”.
“Stop calling her that” I groaned and touched the back of my head,
“Huh?” Gunner blanked. I touched a lump on my scalp and hissed. I really did hit it hard.
“Her name is Aurora” I told him,
“Well according to her, her name’s Whiskey” he shot back with a shrug.
“Where is she?” I asked as I pulled my legs away from Tobias.
“She’s here sweetheart” Lunaya’s voice came from behind Gunner. He stood up and moved to the side so that I could see Aurora laying on the other couch, still unconscious.
“Is she alright?” I asked as I sat up. My head spun and my body screamed in argument.
“She’s fine, just unconscious” Lunaya answered.
“I saw Mother” I blurted out. The room went silent and I felt all their eyes on me again. I looked up to see everyone looking down at me.
“You saw Selene?” Roe asked.
“She walked me through her memories” I told them honestly. A few gasps sounded and Lunaya moved to kneel in front of my legs.
“What did she show you?” she asked excitedly. Her face was so happy and bright, how could I shatter that. I looked up to Roe, who was also waiting eagerly for my answer.
“I’m sorry, Mum” I said sadly as I turned back to Lunaya,
“What for darling, what happened?”
“She showed me a memory of Aurora, when she was ten” I started slowly, trying to delay the inevitable.
“And?” Lunaya pushed,
“And Dad was there too” I admitted. Lunaya’s eyes went wide and her face paled. A quietly choked sob bubbled through her quivering lips.
“Micha’s alive?” she whispered hopefully.
“I’m sorry Mum, but no” I answered,
“But you said he was in the memory, that means he survived the attack on Moon Light”
“He did. He and Aurora were captured and tortured by the hunters for ten years. The memory she showed me… it was…” I paused and looked at her eyes. They were so hopeful and excited.
“Was what?” she urged. I looked up at Gunner as a tear rolled down my cheek.
***I can’t tell her***
I flashed him. He understood what I meant, I saw the recognition flash over his face as I said it. Gunner has always been able to read me like a book, it’s a trait I love about him.
***You can, little wolf, you must***
He flashed me back. He placed his hand on my shoulder and squeezed gently. I reached up for his hand, letting the calmness of the sparks fill me. I took a deep shaky breath and looked at the woman who gave birth to me, who has only just come back into my life, and who might hate me after I tell her this.
“The memory she showed me, was of Dad’s death” I confessed. Lunaya froze, staring at me blankly while she digested the information. She then fell back onto the floor, landing on her butt. She covered her face with her hands and cried. Alyse was quick to her side, wrapping her arms around her to soothe her.
“I’m sorry Mum, I’m so sorry” I said again.
“Why would she show you something like that?” Roe asked, sounding both shocked and disgusted.
“I don’t know. She said I would know when I was ready” I told her.
A deep gasp came from the other couch as Aurora flew up from her laying position. Her eyes searched the room until they found mine. A brief second of sadness crossed through her gaze, before her golden eyes hardened into something dark, something angry, something resembling animosity.
