Twin Moon - Chapter 284 - It's Not Her
Zelena.
“So this Were, what’s his name?” I asked, turning back to Roe.
“Konstantin” Roe replied quickly.
“Ok, so Konstantin thinks I have been possessed by this evil spirit, Besomar. Is that right?” I asked. I wonder what kind of vibes I give off for this guy to think I'm a demon in disguise. Maybe I need to work on my resting bitch face. It took me a moment to realise that Roe didn’t reply. I looked up at her in question, but she was looking at Lupus, the two of them were flashing.
“What’s going on?” Gunner asked firmly. Lupus grunted angrily and sat back in his chair, crossing his arms over his broad chest. Roe cleared her throat and looked at her son.
“I don’t think he was talking about Zelena” she said after a minute. The room was silent, all of them lost to their own thoughts. It was me that Konstantin was looking at when he said it, me he was screaming at, and me he was trying to get away from. Of course, he was calling me Besomar. I looked at Gunner, he was rubbing the back of his neck, something he does when he is unsure or concerned. I looked at my mother, she was chewing on her bottom lip while squeezing Alyse’s hand on the table.
“If not Zelena, who?” Felix asked, finally breaking the silence.
“You think he saw Aurora there, don’t you?” Lunaya asked before Roe could answer. She hesitated for a moment, then nodded her head.
“Wait, how could he think Whiskey is possessed, he’s not even seen her. She ran off before Doyle and his men got here” I shot out confused. Gunner squeezed my hand, pulling my attention to him. His face was contorted with his brows furrowed and his lips pulled into a straight line.
“Zee” he said softly. The tone of his voice and the heaviness behind it, it hit something in me. I understood then.
“You think Whiskey attacked his pack?” I yelled and shot to my feet.
“It makes sense” Smith said quietly.
“There has to be another reason” Lunaya said while shaking her head.
“He called Zelena Besomar. He was absolutely terrified of her. Who do we know that looks exactly like Zelena?” Lupus interjected angrily. It seems like he has already made his mind up about this.
“It wasn’t her” I said vehemently.
“But how could you know for sure?” Felix asked gently. Gunner pulled at my hand, dragging me back down onto my seat.
“Zee, I know you don’t want to hear this, but just try” he said softly. I could feel the tears burning at the rims of my eyes.
“You said that Selene showed you things, things about Whiskey and how angry she was” he said while wiping a tear from my cheek.
“That doesn’t mean she’s a killer” I shot back foolishly,
“But you also saw some of the things that the hunters were doing to her. They were torturing her, why would they do that for no reason?”
“Because they’re evil” I pleaded.
“Or because they were brainwashing her” Lupus scoffed.
“You’re not even trying to give her a chance!” I yelled at him. The large round table shook as the power of my voice rolled across it. Lupus wasn’t fazed though. He grunted and rolled his eyes with annoyance.
“She was emanating all kinds of bad vibes, right from the moment you two touched each other. You may not have seen it, but I did. She attacked her own mother for fucks sake” he growled with a wave of his arm.
“Sweetheart” Roe said sternly, warning her husband to rein in his anger. I whirled on my mother, who had been strangely quiet during this revelation.
“Are you going to say anything?” I snapped at her. She was quiet for a moment, like she was ignoring me. But her face lifted and she looked at me through red rimmed eyes.
“The reports say that all the Weres had been suffocated. We already know that Aurora has the power of Aerokinesis” she said emotionlessly.
“So? What's that got to do with anything?” I growled. The heaviness in my chest was crushing me from the inside out. I know where this was leading, and I was afraid of the legitimacy behind it.
“Areokinesis, the power of air, like what we need to breathe?” Lupus mumbled with a huff.
“The prophecy talks of two, one that brings love, the other that brings death” Lunaya spoke in a monotone voice.
“We still don’t know which one of us is which” I blurted out in a last attempt to reason with them. Though deep down I knew it was futile. The truth was becoming more and more clear. It can’t be ignored any longer.
“I think it’s a pretty safe bet” Smith said with a slight scoff.
I slumped back in my chair and released the hold I had on my tears. They poured down my cheeks as I sat and silently wept. I know what this means for me. It's been plaguing my mind persistently. One of us will die soon.
Gunner gently rubbed my thigh in some kind of show of comfort or solidarity. But then he stood up and began to address the room, making plans to find and capture Whiskey. I couldn’t sit there and listen to him make plans to trap my sister. No matter what she has done, she is still my sister. They are talking about her like she is a wild dangerous animal. After a few minutes of listening to them speak about how powerful and dangerous she was, and the steps they need to take to reduce the possibility of casualties, I couldn’t take anymore.
I pushed my chair back so hard that it toppled over as I stood up. I narrowed my eyes at Gunner before stomping out and slamming the door behind me. I stood on the other side of the door for a moment. My breath was coming out in short harsh bursts as my anger rolled through me. I need answers, and there is only one person that can give me those. I stormed through the house and out on the patio. My anger hadn’t dissipated in the slightest. If anything, it increased tenfold. I could feel my bones starting to twist and crack with the need to change. Maybe changing will help relieve the anger a little. I kicked off my shoes and ran down the steps. The change was coming too fast, and I screwed my face up with the pain of my bones rearranging. I tossed my head back with a grunt as my spine twisted and my face elongated. I threw myself forward onto the ground and landed on two midnight black paws. I panted hard and the pain slowly disappeared. I shook out my fur, shaking off the last of the ache in my bones.
“Goddess?” a female voice called to my right, but I ran off before I looked to see who it was. I headed to the edge of the clearing and through the trees, going in the direction of one of my favourite places. When I reached the flower field, a very slight feeling of calmness tickled through me. Even in the dark of the night the field was beautiful. I walked into the middle of the field and flopped down, rolling my wolf body into the soft grass. I stilled after a minute and laid on my back looking up at the moon. I took a few slow and deep breaths, trying to calm the rest of my anger and fears. I closed my eyes and thought of Selene and the Ethereal Plain.
“Mother” I called out in my head,
“I need you”.
The feeling of falling pulled me upright. I opened my eyes, and I was now standing on my human feet, in front of me was the ever beautiful Selene.
