Twin Moon - Chapter 202 - Moments to Memorialise
Whiskey.
When no one came, I dragged the big guy from the doorway and propped him up against the wall. I checked the hallway was clear, then closed the door and moved onto the next room. It must have belonged to the big octopus, the door was wide open, and it smelt like him. I was about to turn away when a glimmer from something on the bedside table caught my eye. I hesitated for a just a second, but my curiosity got the better of me. I dashed over to the small table and picked up the item to inspect it. It was a folding knife with a gold dragon melded into the handle. Pretty. I slipped the knife into one of the pockets on my pants and went back to the door. The hall was still quiet, so I assume no one else had heard the commotion we created. I moved onto the next room and found both a woman and a man sleeping in the same bed, naked. They had their arms and legs wrapped around each other and the woman had a peaceful look on her face. If I wasn’t so infuriated by the sight, it might have been sweet. The room stunk of alcohol and sex. On the tall boy against the wall was a few empty glass bottles that once held scotch. These fools got plastered and then banged it out. Disgusting.
I went to the male’s side of the bed first. I crouched down low so that if the woman woke, she wouldn’t be able to see me right away. Then I plunged the Sai blade into the back of the man's skull, at the same time I gripped his forehead, so that the force of the thrust wouldn’t move him too much. He was dead before he even got the chance to wake up. I slipped quietly around to the woman’s side of the bed and looked over her sleeping face. As I watched the blissful and unaware smile on her face, an idea popped into my mind. I smirked down at the two bodies and slipped my blade away, then I went about putting my idea into motion. Silently I moved around the bed, the whole time the woman stayed peacefully asleep, completely unaware of the scare she was about to get. I rolled the dead man's face in his own blood, covering him all over. Then very gently I grabbed the woman’s hands and covered them in the blood as well. As I smeared the blood over the sleeping woman’s hand, I couldn’t contain the evil smirk that spread across my face. She was stupid to let her guard down. She was more stupid to get involved with a man. Love is weakness. She'll learn. I'm making sure of that. Once they were both sufficiently covered in blood, I pulled out the knife I stole from the last room and stabbed a few more holes into the dead man’s upper body. Then I gently placed the blood covered knife in the woman’s hand and closed her fingers over the handle. I stood back to admire my handywork and was pretty impressed with myself. It looked like a proper murder scene, and she definitely looked like the murderer. Perfect. She’ll eventually wake up and think she killed her lover. Fuck me, I can be pretty funny sometimes. With that I left the room and went to the next.
There were only three other rooms on the second floor and one of them was empty. Once the floor was clear, I went to the stairs and snuck down to the first floor. There was much more movement on this level. I could hear a few voices coming from the end of the hall, and one or two more from a room just a few doors down. I pulled both my Sai blades from their holders at my back and crept forward to the first door. I pressed my ear to it and heard nothing, no talking, no snoring and no heartbeats. I moved to the next and got the same result, empty. The next door is where some of the voices were coming from. I listened for a moment, counting the number of voices. I could only pick up on two, both of them were speaking Italian. I wasn’t completely fluent in Italian, I knew the basics, but conversation was hard to follow. As I listened to the voices argue, I was able to pick up on a few important words.
“Missione”
“Macellato”
“Sta arrivando”
“Dobbiamo partire”
I'd only be guessing, but it sounds like they have caught wind of my visit to the last outpost and they’re fucking scared. The pussies. The two men continued to argue, but as their conversation got faster, I couldn’t follow it any longer. I can’t hang around in the hallway forever. I took a deep breath and quickly pushed open the door. Both of the men turned to me at the same time, and the same confused looked dawned over both their faces. Time seemed to stand still in that moment. The three of us looked back at each other, until a look of recognition grew over the face of the man on the right. As if everything was moving in slow motion, I took a step forward and his skin paled. I took another step, and his eyes went wide. Another step, and he started to retreat. All the while the man on the left was still looking at me confused. Clearly this one isn’t as bright as the other. I jutted out with my arm, stabbing the blade into the man on the left’s stomach. Only using half of my available strength, I reefed my arm upwards, slicing the man from stomach to chest. His blood spurted out, splashing all over me, then the contents of his abdomen began to fall to the floor. I pulled my arm back, removing the dagger from his body, and he dropped to the floor face first. The other man’s mouth opened wide as he looked down at his disembowelled friend's body. A small, whispered scream came from his open mouth, but it started to get a little louder. I threw my blade at his head, and it sliced right through his forehead. That shut him up. He fell backwards from the force of my throw and his body hit the ground with a loud thump. I quickly jumped over to his body and withdrew my dagger from his head. As I crouched over his dead body, I watched the door and waited for someone else to enter.
I could hear footsteps were approaching quickly. Only light footsteps, so either a female or maybe a child. A body came around the corner and into the doorway, without hesitation I threw the blade across the room. It hit the person in the chest and sent them tumbling backwards into the hallway. Great. Everyone is going to know I'm here now. I jumped up and over the bodies and stopped before I went through the door. Another set of footsteps were running down the hallway towards me, the owner of the footsteps was screaming out something I couldn’t translate. I stood back against the wall next to the door and waited. The person stopped at the body in the hallway before checking the room. Rookie mistake. Always check your surroundings. Assess the danger first. Confirm the kill second. It’s basic knowledge, and kind of essential. Because why this dumb idiot was checking the dead person in the hallway, I slipped through the door and plunged my other dagger into the side of his head. He didn’t even get the chance to see his killer. So stupid. The person I threw the blade at was indeed a woman, a small one too. I threw the dagger so hard, that the blade had gone all the way through her body, impaling her against the wall opposite the door. Impressive kill. If I had a camera, I'd take a photo. I should probably look into that. Getting a camera. Some moments like these deserve to be memorialised.
I pulled the blade from her chest, and she dropped to the floor. I could hear frantic yelling coming from the room at the end of the hall. I was right, they do all know I'm here. No point in waiting and listening now. I kicked open the door and threw the blade in my left hand at the first person I saw. Then threw the blade in my right hand at the next. They both hit the floor and I did a quick intake of the room. There were five other people in the small kitchen like space. All men. All a whole lot bigger than me. One of them was holding a gun and was slowly lifting it to take aim at me. I threw forward my arm, calling forth the power inside me. A strong gust of wind picked up the man and sent him flying into the wall hard, really hard. Another man was running towards me from the side, I flicked my hand in his direction, and he too got swept up in the air and flew backwards.
As I was distracted by those two men, another managed to wrap his large arms around my upper body, pinning my arms to my sides. I growled lowly and flew my head back, connecting the top of my skull to the bottom of his chin. He grunted but didn’t let go, instead he picked me up, lifting my feet off the ground. I hooked my ankle behind his knee and called the wind back towards me. With the force of the air and my foot locking his leg, the man went falling backwards, with me still in his arms. As we hit the ground, another man had rushed over and was standing over me. I lifted my leg and kicked him in the face. I snapped my head back again, this time connecting it with the man’s nose. A crunch sound and a muffled yell, then his arms around me loosening, was enough to know I was successful. I let my nails grow forward and then slammed them deeply into the soft sides of the man’s stomach. He screamed and released me completely. I whipped around on his lap and swiped my nails across his neck, tearing away a large chunk of flesh. As I went to swipe at him again, my arm was grabbed. I looked up to a man with blood all over his face, and more still pouring from his nose. It was the man I kicked in the face. I slashed my nails across his stomach, and he screamed and jumped back, but still didn’t let go of my wrist. I stood up and dragged my nails up his abdomen in a quick sharp motion. That made him let me go. He grabbed at his stomach and hunched forward. I jumped up and around, landing a flying roundhouse kick to the side of his head. The man dropped to the ground with a thump.
