Twin Moon - Chapter 240 - The Alpha

Zelena.

“So what do we do now, Luna?” Felix asked from across the table. I stood back up and looked around at the faces waiting for my answer. The truth was, I have no idea. I don’t know what to do or where to start looking. This world is still reasonably new to me. To say I lack confidence is an understatement, but what I lack there, I make up for in determination.
“The libraries” I said with as much certainty as I could force.
“We need to search the library. But not just ours, we will have to branch out to our closest allies too. We need to find any mention of prophecies, fortunes, visions, or anything similar that could help us”
“Luna Eclipse has a Seer” Alyse said softly,
“Of course, Papi” Lunaya squawked and smacked herself on the forehead,
“I completely forgot about her” she said annoyed.
“A Seer, you’re sure?” Roe asked, her interest was definitely piqued.
“Yes. She is the one that told me I needed to come to Nova Scotia, she is the one that told me one of you were still alive”
“Wait, a Seer, what is that?” I asked urgently,
“A Seer is someone that can see someone's past and their future, just by touching you” Nat said with a surprising amount of astonishment in her voice.
“They are rare, like seriously rare. Packs kill each other over getting a Seer” she said with wide eyes.
“No surprises Luna Eclipse was able to keep one a secret though” Lupus added nonchalantly while still gazing down at B.
“And this Seer, she told you that I was here?” I asked, walking back over to where Lunaya was standing,
“She said you were waiting for me and that I could find you in Nova Scotia” she confirmed. I felt my heart rate pick up and my excitement start to grow.
“And what else did she tell you? Did she mention Aurora, did she say anything about the prophecy or if my sister was alive as well?” I demanded.
“No, sweetheart, I would have told you already” Lunaya said gently,
“Would you though? You haven’t exactly been forthright with information” I yelled. The thin hold I had on my emotions was ripping apart. Why won't she tell me stuff? What is she trying to hide, doesn’t she trust me. She claims to care for me, she says she’s sorry for not telling me about Aurora, but she keeps withholding information. My hands were shaking at my sides and waves of heaviness were smashing against my body.
“Zelena” Lunaya sighed exhaustedly. I growled lowly. Struggling to get a grip back on my temper and power. I closed my eyes and took a slow deep breath. After a beat, I looked back at her and let my face relax again.
“I know, we’ve already talked about that. It's going to take a minute for me to get over it. Sorry” I said sullenly.
“It’s alright. I promise you that there is nothing more that I’m keeping from you. At least nothing important enough for me to remember at this very moment” she chuckled. I could see she was trying to ease the tension. Though I can appreciate her trying to make things better, I don’t appreciate the poor timing.
“So, the Seer told you nothing about your other daughter?” Felix asked,
“No. She was vague with any kind of detail and withheld more than she gave” Lunaya said speaking to Felix,
“Imagine that” I whispered sarcastically, only to be shot a firm glare from Roe. I huffed and sat down. She's meant to be on my side here.
“We will get in contact with Alpha Hina at Luna Eclipse, maybe we can convince Papi to tell us more about what she saw” Alyse said to the room.
“I’ll head home and talk with Lace about it, and go through the library there” Nat announced,
“I will call my brother” Tobias said without looking up,
“Blue Moon has an extensive library and he will be happy to help” Tobias offered. I was a little surprised. I was still undecided as to where he was with this whole thing, whether he knew about it, or he didn’t. But he is offering to help, so that has to mean he doesn’t know anything. At least I hope it does. That glimmer of hope and the reignition of my trust in him, it took a small bit of weight off my shoulders.
“I recommend you keep as much of this on the down low as possible” Lupus interjected. All eyes turned to him, waiting for an explanation.
“Zelena already faces a lot of danger just by being the Triple Goddess, that fact has been proven enough already. If the rest of the world discovered that the Triple Goddess is not only a twin herself, but has also given birth to twins...” Lupus started,
“There will be chaos” Felix added,
“Weres from all over the world will come for her” Smith said cautiously.
The room fell into silence, each of us contemplating the possibilities. Lupus is right, this news will send shockwaves through the gossip channels. Twin births are rare in Weres, this has been said to me enough times over the past week. A twin giving birth to twins, now that would be considered a miracle. Not to mention the addition of the Triple Goddess thing. I'd be a circus act. My pups would be bombarded by strangers from all over the world. We can’t let that happen. They have to be protected.
“So how are we going to handle this then?” Alyse asked, breaking the tense silence.
“I have to tell Lace, I won't keep secrets from him” Nat said quickly and firmly,
“No one expects you to keep secrets from your Mate dear” Roe answered her.
“But please keep it to only those who are close to you both, make sure they can be trusted” I said to everyone.
“I trust Lace and his Beta” Nat snipped,
“And everyone here trusted Artemis, look how that turned out” I snapped back. She lowered her head and went silent. I huffed and pinched the bridge of my nose. Artemis betraying Tri-Moon hasn’t really been talked about a whole lot. I know that everyone is still angry about it. But mostly there is a lot of shame and embarrassment. A lot of the pack, especially Lupus, Roe and other senior pack members, they all feel an air of guilt over it.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that” I grunted.
“No. You're right” Lupus chimed in,
“We were all fooled by Artemis. Each of us needs to be very careful with this information, share it wisely and with as much discretion as possible” he said with a heavy warning.
“Of course”
“Okay”
“I will”
The room chorused their understanding and agreement. Finally, it looks like we were getting somewhere.
“And what of the pack?” Smith asked.
“What do you mean?” I replied.
“I mean the twins still haven’t been introduced to the pack yet. They know that you’ve given birth, and they are getting impatient to meet the pup, or in this case pups. Are you going to tell them that you had twins?”
“No” Roe and I said at the same time. Roe raised her hand to me, indicating she had something to say before I explain my reason. I nodded for her to go ahead.
“I’ve thought about this over the past few days. The twins need to remain a secret, at least for now. But we do need to introduce the pack to at least one of them, otherwise they will start to get suspicious. And suspicion leads to questions”
“You want to keep just one baby hidden?” I asked. I was honestly a little hurt by the idea. The thought of hiding one of my babies like a dirty secret made me angry.
“Yes, and no” Roe continued,
“They look so much alike, I think we can use that to our advantage”
“How?” Nat asked,
“We only take one pup out of the house at any one time. We don’t let anyone else hold the pups, this will make sure that no one gets close enough to pinpoint the difference in their scents. Then after we have found more information on the prophecy, then and only then do we admit the truth”.
Everyone was quiet, probably doing what I was doing and weighing up our options. It's a good idea. We could probably pull it off without too much trouble, at least for a month or two. Though hopefully we won't need to for that long.
“And do we tell them they have an Alpha-son or an Alpha-daughter?” I asked,
“Son” Lupus, Felix and Smith spoke together. Nat huffed and rolled her eyes,
“Typical” she sneered.
“No! Not for any of that macho sexist crap you’re assuming” Smith argued while waving his hand at Nat,
“Think about it. Zelena is the Triple Goddess, the gene is passed from mother to daughter. So, if word spreads that she has given birth to a daughter, that could put G. at risk”.
Of course, that was one of the many threats I had already thought of. Hunters could come for G. just like they did for me and Aurora. Not just hunters though, but rival packs, other supernatural's’, really anyone that considered her a threat or wanted to claim the bloodline of Selena. Smith has a point. An Alpha-son would be cherished more by the pack, and yet probably of less interest to the rest of Were-kind.
“It makes sense” I said offering Smith a half grin,
“Well, I'll be damned” Lupus chuckled,
“I was thinking the same thing” he said proudly and nodded to Smith.
“So, it’s settled then. We announce the birth of an Alpha-son" Roe said with finality,
“I’ll make the arrangements” she nodded and stood up.
“I’ll head home first thing in the morning” Nat said, also standing up,
“You won’t stay for the announcement?” I asked, stopping her before she left. Nat took my hand and sighed,
“I want to, I do, but I have to get back to Howlers. I've already been gone for too long. And the sooner that I'm home, the sooner I can start scouring the library” she said squeezing my hand and offering a small smile. I nodded in understanding and let her go. Just as Nat went to push the door open, loud knocking sounded from the other side of it. She pulled open the door and stepped to the side for Daniel to enter. All eyes now turned to his flushed and worried face. As he looked around the room at everyone in attendance, his worry faded, and confusion took its place.
“Did I miss a meeting?” he asked, turning his attention to me. I swallowed, trying to think of something quickly as to not hurt his feelings.
“No, no. Just family stuff. What can I do for you Daniel?” I answered him with a shrug. He hesitated for a moment, the worry once again appeared on his face.
“Daniel, is something wrong?” I asked. I was getting a little concerned that he was going to puke. He was pale and flushed at the same time, is that even possible. He took a deep breath and turned to face me completely,
“The Alpha has just pulled into the driveway” he said with caution. His words were riddled with fear and anxiety. My knees almost gave out from under me and my stomach hit the floor. He couldn’t mean Gunner, why would Daniel be scared that Gunner was home.
“The Alpha?” Lupus asked, he handed B. to Roe and slowly stood up.
“Gunner” Daniel confirmed with a nod.
