Twin Moon - Chapter 277 - Smith, Help!

Zelena.

“You’re panicking” Tobias whispered,
“Of course, I'm fucking panicking. They could be here to hurt my children” I growled lowly. Tobias took my hand and held it to his cheek.
“No one will ever hurt those children, I swear it” he said convincingly. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. It's hard not to believe him. I know he will kill for my babies, he would die for them too, as I would. I felt the wave of calm wash over me, along with the sparks of energy tickle across my skin. I could see the aura around my fingers where the back of my hand sat against his face. I turned my hand around and cupped his cheek. He held his other hand over mine, covering it completely.
“I do love you, you know that right?” I said softly,
“I know little one, I love you as well” he replied. His voice was still low and quiet, though it held an aspect of sadness.
“What would I do without you?” I smiled,
“You will do what you always do. You’ll survive” he answered without missing a beat. He tapped my hand and smiled over at me,
“Come on, you need to try and get some sleep” he cooed quietly.
Tobias uncurled his legs and went to stand up, but before he was fully upright, it looked like he tripped and went stumbling forward. I caught his shoulders, but he is a giant and I am tiny. It was like a gerbil trying to stop a walrus, absolutely futile. Tobias’s body kept falling forward, forcing me back onto my butt and then onto my back, making my head thump on the carpet. Tobais was half laying, half kneeling over the top of me. He was holding his upper body off me with one hand and grabbing at his temple with the other.
“Holy shit, are you alright?” I questioned urgently. I can’t believe we didn’t just wake the babies with the sound of my head hitting the floor. When Tobias didn’t answer, I stared up at his face. His eyes were closed, and his face held a pained expression. I tapped his chest and quickly grabbed at his cheeks, trying to make him look at me.
“Tobias? Tobias, what’s going on? Are you okay?” I repeated his name over and over with no answer. I dragged my body out from under him and then tried to pull him up by the arm.
“Tobias what the fuck?” I whisper yelled. When he still didn’t answer I started to panic.
***Smith! Smith help, Tobias needs help!***
I yelled through the flash. Smith’s thunderous footsteps came up the steps just seconds later. He barged through the door and stood in the doorway for a second. He looked between me holding Tobias’s arm and Tobias still kneeling on the ground, before he quickly rushed over to Tobias’s side. Smith pulled him up much easier than I could have. He moved to stand in front of Tobias, still seeming to hold up most of his body weight. Tobias swayed on his feet, still holding his head with his eyes pressed closed tightly.
“Hey buddy. Tobias? Are you with us mate?” Smith coaxed but got no response. G. grumbled and groaned as she stirred.
“In the hall, quickly” I whispered harshly and began shoving Tobias and Smith towards the door. It looked like Smith was managing with Tobias alright as they shuffled out into the hallway. I looked back at G. to make sure she was still asleep, then carefully pulled the door closed. Smith had Tobias leaning on the wall beside the door while he was holding him up by the chest.
“Tobias, what’s going on buddy, speak to me” Smith called out as he snapped his fingers in front of his face.
“What happened?” Smith asked over his shoulder at me,
“I don’t know, it looked like he tripped over but then he was like this” I answered, waving my hands at Tobias. Smith turned back to Tobias and gently tapped his cheek. He then tried to lift his eyelid, but that didn’t work either.
“What were you guys doing?” Smith questioned while getting up close and personal to Tobias’s face,
“We were just talking. I don’t know what’s going on” I said urgently. My voice broke at the end and I felt the tears welling in my eyes.
“Come on Tobias. You can’t be a very good Guardian if you’re freaking out your charge” Smith teased and shook his shoulders. Tobias’s eyes flew open and a low growl bubbled from the back of his throat. He pushed Smith back and stood up straight.
“Whoa, I was just kidding” Smith forced a chuckle. He stepped back to my side and pulled me back another step with his arm over my stomach. Tobias moved his eyes to me, and his angry face softened.
“Sorry, I'm okay” he mumbled and stepped toward me. Smith pulled us back another step so that we were both now up against the other wall.
“You sure?” Smith asked cautiously as he moved subtly to place himself more in front of me. Tobias flicked his eyes to Smith and nodded his head once.
“What the fuck Tobias, you scared the shit out of me” I scolded as I wiped the fresh tears from my cheeks,
“I’m sorry little Goddess, I didn’t mean to” he said gently and held his hand out for me. I looked up at Smith and he slowly put his arm down. I took Tobias’s hand and he pulled me into his chest for a hug.
“What was that?” I asked as I swallowed a small sob. He patted down my hair and hummed,
“I just stood up to fast” he blatantly lied. I could hear and feel it. He must know that I could tell he was lying, he’s not that stupid. I stepped out of his arms and glared up at him. He didn’t say anything or admit that he lied, he just stared back at me.
“Tobias” I said harshly,
“It’s nothing Zee, I promise” he said earnestly. I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth and hummed unconvinced.
“Smith will get you to bed, I need to go... get a drink” Tobias said slowly while flicking his eyes up to Smith.
“I can get myself to bed, I'm not three years old” I snapped,
“I know that” he went to argue,
“Do you though, because you seem to be under the impression that I'm a child that needs coddling” I scolded angrily interrupting him.
“Zee, it’s not that” he went to argue again.
“Forget about it, just go get your drink” I said sarcastically while doing air quotes with the word drink. I wasn’t in the mood to pretend that I'm not pissed. Tobias sighed and rubbed his hand down his face. I watched, steaming mad, as he looked up at smith. If it was at all possible under his dark skin, he looked pale. As mad as I am, I wasn’t blind to the concern I felt circling around my stomach.
“She’s fine” Smith said confidently, any sign of amusement and joking was gone from his tone. Tobias spared me one last glance before he headed off down the stairs. I almost asked him to wait, I wanted to check if he was okay. I may be angry, but that doesn’t make me not care about his wellbeing. I went to step forward, to follow after him, but Smith took my hand, stopping me before I could. After he was gone and I heard the front door open and close behind him, I turned to Smith.
“What do you know?” I asked accusingly,
“No more than you” he answered back instantly. I could tell he wasn’t lying. I honestly don’t think that Smith has ever lied to me, that’s one of the reasons I trust him so explicitly.
“There’s something up with him” I said more so to myself than Smith. I dropped my hand and rubbed my hands down the outside of my thighs.
“He’s acting weird, that’s for sure. Well, weirder than usual anyway” Smith answered a little sarcastically. I turned to look in the direction Tobias just walked. I stared at the stairs and scratched the back of my neck. I need to find out what's going on. He lied to me, right to my face, and it wasn’t even a good lie. Why would he hide something from me, after everything that has happened. It hurts. Tobias is supposed to be my rock, my anchor, my calm in the storm. Why would he need to lie about anything. Fuck it. I'm going to get to the bottom of this, I won't stop until I figure it out. Tobias can lie and pretend all he wants, but I can see right through him.
