Mother of the Moon - Chapter 135 - Alpha-daughter
Lunaya.
“Alpha Gunner” I called to him as I approached. He turned to me and the aggression he held on his face, dissipated instantly.
“I’m sorry, I have forgotten your name” he said quietly whilst running his hand over his face. The look of exhaustion was evident in his dark eyes.
“That’s okay Alpha, you’ve had a long night. I am Lunaya, this is Venus, she is also from Luna Eclipse. Two of your she-wolves are scouting the perimeter” I told him eagerly.
“Which she-wolves?” he asked, his voice sounding somewhat disinterested whilst holding a demanding tone.
“They told me their names were Casey and Faylene”
“Okay good, Faylene is second in command to my highest-ranking commander. You can trust her” he said tiredly.
“Yes Alpha” I replied. He went to turn back inside but stopped and turned back to me again,
“I forgot, I have called for my sister, she is bringing us some supplies” he mumbled, swaying a little on his feet.
“Alpha, have you had any rest?” I asked him, stepping forward and gingerly taking hold of his shoulder. He threw his eyes to where my hand met his arm, and a wary look came to his face. After a second, he turned his eyes to mine and slowly stepped out of my reach.
“I haven’t been able to calm her” he admitted softly.
“She hasn’t woken long enough for you to mate together? You know that is the only way to ease the pain?” Venus said accusingly. Gunner glared at her and snarled.
“Yes, I’m perfectly aware and as I have already stated, I will not rape my unconscious Mate” he spat.
“That is admirable Alpha Gunner, many in your position would not be so… accommodating” Venus said smartly, crossing her arms over her chest. She was testing him or pushing him. But for what, I wasn’t sure. I threw her a cautious glance and she responded with a small shrug of her shoulder.
“Thank you” Gunner growled lowly, well aware of Venus’s hidden overtone. Gunner went to turn back to the door but paused.
“One more thing” he said turning back to face me,
“Yes Alpha?” I asked.
“There will be a meeting at daybreak for all the lead diplomats. My Beta, Cole, is organizing it and running point. I would like for yourself and your Beta to attend” he said firmly. It was clear that the invitation was non-negotiable.
“As you wish Alpha Gunner” I agreed with a small bow. He huffed and went back into the hut.
“What was that?” Venus asked with a sly smirk,
“What was what?” I groaned,
“The whole ‘as you wish’ thing” she said in a mocking tone.
“He is the Alpha of this pack, and Mate to my daughter. We need his approval to stay on pack land and I need his acceptance if I am to get to know my child. Your attitude is not helping” I snapped.
“Okay, you’re right. I’m sorry. I don’t like males, especially Alphas. But I’ll try to ease up on him I swear” she said with a little more softness. I watched her face fall and her eyes dart around the forest. I couldn’t shake the comment she made about Alphas. I don’t know anything about her past, only that she came from India. I want to push, to get her to open up on what happened to her, but it really isn’t my place. We aren’t exactly friends, just travel companions. But damn me and my maternal instincts and my urge to sooth and protect her.
We stood together at the front door for a little while longer. As much as I wanted to, I didn’t press Venus for details on her comment. Casey came back again with nothing to report. Soon a tall she-wolf with short blonde hair, carrying a sports bag, came through the trees. She wasn’t surprised to see us, but she approached slowly and cautiously anyway. I could see the likeness between her and Gunner and need not ask who she was.
“Hello” she said as she approached,
“I’m Alpha Gunner’s sister, he’s expecting me”. She came to a stop a few steps in front of where Venus and I stood. She straightened her back and rolled her shoulders, allowing her stand taller and more confident.
“The Alpha is with the Goddess” Venus said from beside me.
“I know that, he asked me to bring these for him” the sister replied and dropped the bag at our feet. I smirked at the huffing sound Venus made and swallowed the chuckle that bubbled in the back of my throat.
“I will make sure he gets it” I said stepping forward and picking up the bag. The screaming started again at that moment, and the sister snapped her head to the door. Concern engulfed her face, her eyes wide and anxious. She took a step forward and Venus blocked her path. The girl growled lowly and hissed.
“Move” she seethed edging closer again.
“You’ve done your duty, now go” Venus growled back,
“She is my sister, this is my pack. You don’t give the orders around here she-wolf” the sister roared. She has quite the bark, but does she bite as well? As entertaining as a showdown between these two youngsters would be, I doubt the Alpha, Alpha-mother and Beta Elaine would appreciate it. I placed my hand on Venus’s shoulder and held firm.
“The Goddess is with her Mate, she is in heat, and they are alone. What do you think you would be walking in on?” I said to her, using the words that Roe said to me not a few hours earlier. It worked, just as it did on me. The she-wolf stopped growling and put her canines away. She shook her head, blinked rapidly and scrunched up her nose.
“Right, of course” she said with a disgusted scowl.
“We will take care of it. Best head back to the village” I told her as I moved in front of Venus.
She looked me over for a few moments, studying my face and body carefully. Her head tilted to the side, just slightly, and finally a look of recognition graced her face.
“Have we met before?” she asked me pointedly,
“Not that I am aware of Alpha-daughter” I replied without hesitation. She eyed me again, and Venus growled quietly.
“You’re sure?” she questioned me. A slow panic began to fill my stomach. Perhaps my child looks a little too much like me, and this she-wolf is the first to notice. If they are as close as I assume they are, then it would make sense that she can spot the characteristics that a mother and daughter share. The Mate would have been too consumed in the heat to take notice, but the sister. She would see it.
“I promise that we have not met young one” I assured her and turned my gaze away.
“Okay” she said slowly before turning away.
“Make sure my brother gets that” she called over her shoulder and began to jog off through the trees.
“That was weird, what’s that about you think?” Venus wondered out loud,
“Not sure” I quipped quickly. I turned and went for the hut door. I placed the bag on the little wooden table. I paused in the middle of the room, letting the screams of pain echo around me. The poor child. She is nineteen now, she would have had dozens of heats by this point in her life. Could each bout of heat have been as intense as this one? Surely not, the pack was unprepared and unaware of it. Why is this one so different? I shook my head and went back out the door. The sun was not far from rising. The eastern sky was slowly starting to lighten. The next two guards should be arriving at any time now. Cleo and possibly Alyse I imagine.
I was right, Cleo and Alyse appeared not long after the sister left. The sun was now visible through the trees, the meeting Alpha Gunner requested my presence at would be starting any time now.
“You need to go, the diplomats are gathering for the meeting. Beta Cole is expecting you and Beta Elaine is already waiting” Cleo said as they came to stop in front of us. I looked to Venus and she nodded her head.
“I’ll debrief, you go”. I quickly kissed Alyse on the cheek and ran off through the trees. The run would take a while in this form, and it’s time I don’t have. I cracked my head to the side and then to the back. My nose elongated into a snout and my body fell forward onto four paws. I picked up my speed and dashed through the forest in a blur. I came to the village edge in no time and saw Elaine in the distance. She was standing at the bottom of the porch steps that led up into the pack house. Her eyes found me as I burst through the trees, and she waved me over.
“Hurry up, we are the last ones to go in” she hissed at me. I changed back and stood in front of her naked. She groaned and mumbled to herself as she stomped up the steps of the porch. She didn’t go through the door though, instead she turned and walked over to the raining. I saw what she was doing then, there were clothes lined up, draped over the railing. She grabbed some and came back to me and thrust them into my chest, all while groaning about horny males and that we can’t be naked whenever we want anymore. She wouldn’t admit it to my face, but I could already tell she was missing Luna Eclipse.
I pulled on the large grey shirt and black shorts and then we hurried into the pack house. I followed behind Elaine as she pushed open a large brown door. Once we stepped inside, the chattering and booming voices stopped, and all eyes turned to us.
