The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 71 - Banishment

Gunner.

“No, we need to spread them out more, here” Cole said pointing to a section of the forest on the map that was splayed out on the table.
“We already have two battalions in this area, they can cover that ground as well” I replied.
“Yes, but now we have the extra wolves to utilise and that forest area is thick, they could use the additional eyes” Cole rebutted.
Cole has taken to his new official role as Beta wolf with ease. We always knew that he’d become the Beta at my ascension, but doing the job and training for the job are two different things. I trust him one hundred percent and that’s why I’m letting him argue his point, even if the Alpha’s word is final.
“Okay, I hear you. Place another ten there and there, others here and here” I agreed as I pointed at parts of our borders on the map.
“Son” I heard dad’s voice from the door behind me. I spun around to see him and nodded for him to continue.
“The Blue Moon pack fighters have arrived, joined by their Alpha” he told me as he stepped through the door.
“Their Alpha?” I echoed. It’s unusual for an Alpha to leave his territory for the war business of an ally. They usually just send the Beta or commanders. Why would the Alpha come as well? As I was considering reasons behind the new arrival, he made his way through the door. He was the biggest Alpha I had ever laid my eyes on. The aura of his power was visible all around him. Only he didn’t look to me to greet me, instead his eyes were fixed on Zelena.
“Hello, I’m Tobias, eldest son Alonzo Gilliano, Alpha to Blue Moon pack” he said proudly with his eyes still pinned on Zee. I held in a growl, knowing that if I show aggression it could cause a big problem. I did the next thing I could, I stood between him and Zee, forcing his gaze to me.
“Hello Alpha Tobias, I'm Gunner, the newly appointed Alpha of Tri-Moon. I offer my sincere thanks for answering our call” I said to him offering my hand in greeting. He took my hand and pulled me forward for Sevasmo, bringing our foreheads together. Well this is good I suppose, he is showing me respect and greeting me like an Alpha. I guess I overexaggerated his surveying of Zelena. I stepped back to the table and gestured for him to join me.
“If you’d like to…” I started,
“I have been told you are mated to the Triple Goddess” he interrupted stepping closer to Zelena. His advancement towards her fired me up again. I stood in front of her defensively, ready to attack.
“I mean her no harm young Alpha. I only wish to offer my undying loyalty and services to our Goddess” he chuckled. This fucker actually laughed at me. I could kill him right now and not blink twice, I don’t care how big he is. I looked him up and down and slowly stepped back to Zelena’s side and rested my hand on her shoulder.
***It’s okay Gunner***
***He is still a stranger little wolf***
***He just wants to meet me, you knew that some people would act this way***
***I don’t like how he’s looking at you***
I let out a low growl to warn him not to do anything stupid and nodded my head for him to approach. As he bowed and offered his hands to Zee, she put her own hands on his. I went to snatch her hands away but was halted by a sudden wave of calm washing over me. I closed my eyes for a second and let out a deep breath.
“I knew it” Tobias whispered.
“What was that? What does guardian mean?” Zee asked quickly, keeping her hands on his.
“A few weeks ago, the Goddess came to me in a dream and told me I was to watch over and protect her chosen daughter. She said I would be called to her and when the time came, I needed to answer the call” he paused enclosing his fingers around her tiny hands.
“I am to be your guardian, to help your mate keep you safe. My Goddess, I offer you my loyalty, my servitude, my allegiance and my life”.
What the fuck was this about? Mum never mentioned anything about a guardian to the Goddess. Does this mean this giant man is going to be around permanently?
“Well this is new” Dad said sarcastically.
“Uh, th-thank you” Zee mumbled.
“Do you accept me as your guardian, my Goddess?” Tobias asked. I really don’t like the way he is looking at her, like he is trying to see her soul. But there is something about him that seems genuine and if he was sent by the Goddess like he claims, then I couldn’t refuse him. Zee looked up to me and I nodded my head.
“Yes, I accept” she said softly.
“Excellent” Tobias bellowed as he jumped to his feet and slapped his hand to my shoulder.
“Alpha Gunner, please show me your plans and instruct me where to place my fighters” he said with a smile. I gently squeezed Zee’s shoulder once more before releasing her.
“This is my Beta, Cole” I said turning back to the table. They shook hands and we all leaned over the maps on the table.
“So far we have placed thirty-five fighters along this border. This section of the forest is very dense and would hold good cover for the hunters. We have traps set here, here, here, here and many more spread out through here” Cole spoke clearly and firmly as he pointed everything out on the map. Tobias nodded along, taking in the information we were telling him.
I could feel some anxiety coming from Zelena, she was worrying about something. I heard her stand up and shuffle her feet, I turned my head to look at her and she was standing holding the doorknob. She smiled to me but it was a forced smile, not reaching her eyes.
***Just going for a little breather***
***Don't go far from the pack house***
***I won’t***
I turned back to the table as she left, picking back up where Cole was at with Tobias.
“Our best fighters have been positioned here, it’s a more open area and easily accessible should the hunters enter from this direction” Cole continued.
“My men are highly trained warriors, with extensive combat knowledge and experience. They can be spread out and placed with your men here, here and here. Have you heard from the Crescent Wolves yet?” he asked looking at me.
“No, no word from our scouts yet” I answered his question. We should have heard from Smith by now, I wonder what is taking him so long.
“So far roughly forty pack members have elected to stay and fight. More will join them before the busses leave. They are trained in basic combat but not to the level of our fighters. We will be holding them back around here and using them as mostly clean-up crew. Once the fighters have taken out most of the hunters, they will be there to pick off the stragglers” Cole explained.
“You’re allowing your untrained pack to fight?” Tobias questioned turning to face me.
“I have not ordered them to stay, they volunteered. They want to protect their Luna, their Goddess. They aren’t useless, they can handle themselves” I snapped, I don’t need to defend myself to this man I huffed to myself.
“That’s admirable, I can respect that” he smiled leaning back over the table. Okay, I didn’t expect that response. Maybe I am judging Tobias to harshly.
I felt a sudden tinge of fury burn through my chest. I placed my hand on my chest and took a deep breath.
“Are you okay Gunner?” Cole asked peering over at me.
“Something is happening” I panted. I focused my hearing and tried to make out what was going on outside. An all too familiar howl burst through my ears and I knew Zelena was in danger.
“Fuck” I spat as I stormed out of the hall and onto the porch. I looked down at the people all gathered to watch the scene unfolding in front of them. There I spotted Zelena standing strong with her arms outstretched before her. I followed the direction of her hands and saw a small brown wolf struggling to get itself free from the air.
“ENOUGH!” I roared, my new Alpha tone seeping into the words. I jumped over the porch railing and quickly dashed to stand in front of Zee.
“Zelena, let her down” I ordered her, she paused for a second then dropped her hands. The wolf fell back to the ground with a thud, it lay there for a moment before shifting back to human form. The naked woman stood up and I almost charged at her, ready to rip her throat out. Fucking Zoe. After wrapping her body in a towel, she walked over to us but seeing the fury in my eyes she stopped a few metres away.
“Gunner, baby, she…” her high-pitched whinging voice just fuelled my anger,
“Quiet” I snapped at her.
“What happened?” I snarled turning my head to look at Zee.
“She came up to me and told me that I needed to leave” she replied quietly.
“And?”
“And that it’s my fault the hunters are coming”
“Is that all?”
“I tried to walk away but she got in my face growling and saying shit about you two being mated” the frustration in her voice was clear. The moment she relayed what Zoe had said I was ready to kill. I have told this slut time and time again that she and I are nothing. I have a Mate and I have given Zoe enough chances to accept that. But now she has attacked the love of my life, she has gone way too far. I turned back to Zoe with my lips curled back and my fangs exposed, I growled ferociously at her.
“Baby” she tried to speak.
“Enough Zoe! We are NOT mates. She is my Mate” I yelled pointing back to Zelena.
“She is a good for nothing freak that is going to get the pack killed” Zoe snarled.
I stepped towards her ready to tear her apart, growls from all around us echoed through my body, reminding me that others were present. The pack didn’t like what she was saying about their Luna and their anger was washing over me. I was holding back as much as I could but it was getting hard. The sound of Zelena’s defensive growl behind me, calmed me a little.
“G-Gunner, I still love...” Zoe stuttered.
“SILENCE!” I snapped loudly.
“For attacking your Luna with the intent to harm or kill, you are banished. You are no longer of the Tri-Moon pack. You have until nightfall to be out of my territory” I told her using my Alpha command.
Zoe fell to the ground and looked up at me, she was panting and tears were falling from her eyes. Pathetic.
“P-please” she breathed out.
“We’re done here” if I don’t walk away from her right now, I will indeed kill her.
