Mother of the Moon - Chapter 99 - The Dress

Zelena.

“She has you wrapped around her finger” I chuckled stepping forward.
“Holy fucking Goddess” He screamed, jumping back and clutching his chest,
“You scared the fucking shit out of me. How long have you been standing there?” he huffed heavily walking towards me.
“Long enough to know that you seem to think my life is in danger” I answered bluntly, a subtle question hidden in my response.
“Well, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t” he answered meekly. Wrapping his arms around my waist, he pulled me into his body.
“I thought we took care of the hunters?”
“We did, that clan at least. But there are other dangers in the world Zee. More are slowly coming out of the woodworks”
“What is that meant to mean?”
He unwrapped his arms and pulled me away from him. Gripping my shoulders, he held me in place so that he could study my face.
“Don’t worry about it, little wolf. Just enjoy your shopping trip and we can talk more about it when you get home”.
He bent down and kissed the top of my head before smacking my ass and walking away to his office. Uh what? Excuse me sir, I wasn’t done with that conversation. I stood there dumbfounded that he just walked off without letting me speak. Since when was Gunner so dismissive. I felt a small fire light in my chest. He was not going to just brush me off like that, we’re meant to be equals in this. I was ready to storm into his office in a crazy rage and demand answers. Luckily, I was pulled from my short rage spiral by Nat running happily down the stairs, donning a short red skater dress with big black ankle boots. She should definitely try out for a modelling agency.
“You ready little sis?” she smiled at me. All my anger towards Gunner and his brutish brush off was completely forgotten.
“Totally” I smiled back.
“Let’s go” she grabbed my hand and pulled me to the front door.
“Mum, we’re ready” she screamed through the house, maybe a little too loudly.
“Alright, alright. No need to scream the house down girly. Let’s hit the road” Roe said walking passed us and out the front door. Deena was waiting for us at the bottom of the porch steps with a bright smile gracing her pretty face.
“Do you want me to drive?” she asked Roe as she glided down the steps.
“Ugh, no” Roe grunted, as she led the way to the front of the house.
“That tyrannical son of mine has arranged a driver, and a personal bodyguard to shadow us”.
“Wait seriously?” Nat whined.
“Yes” Roe replied bluntly, clearly unimpressed with the situation. As we walked up to the edge of the driveway, waiting for us by the black SUV was Felix. He was dressed in casual blue jeans and plain black t-shirt, sporting a pair of aviator sunglasses. His chocolate brown hair looks scruffy in the most natural I’m-not-even-trying kind of way. I’d never noticed before how handsome Felix is. He can’t hold a candle to Gunner, no one could, but he can definitely steal some hearts. He’s well-built and tall like Gunner, and his creamy skin shone brightly in the direct sunlight. Let’s hope there aren’t too many ladies at the shopping centre today, or else we may get mobbed.
We all climbed into the car, Roe in the passenger seat and Felix driving, the rest of us in the back. Nat, as per usual, hooked up some music for the trip. And we were off. The drive was slow, especially as we got closer to the city. It looks like everyone is out and about, trying to make the most of their last week of summer break before the new school year starts. I am so damn glad that I don’t have to do the high school thing anymore. That place was hell. I’m also so thankful to Lupus, he pretended to be my father and told the school that I finished my senior year doing online schooling. I was able to graduate and got my high school diploma. After everything that I had to endure during my schooling, the last thing that I wanted was to be a high school dropout.
“Once we get to the centre, I want you all to stick together. No stragglers, and no one is to walk off alone. Understood?” Felix’s commanding voice filled the car. We all mumbled our ‘yes, okay, understood’ as we pulled into the underground lot.
“You’ve got two hours before we are to be on the road again”
“Lighten up Felix dear, you’re spoiling the mood” Roe badgered.
“Let’s go ladies” Felix replied, ignoring Roe’s comment.
Roe and Denna led the way, Nat and I walking with our arms linked behind them and Felix bringing up the rear. The first dress shop was horrible. It was filled with tiny slutty dresses that would fit like a second skin. My aversion to tight clothes has most definitely not gone away. The next shop was not too bad. There was a lot to choose from but nothing that screamed ‘perfection’.
I was walking the isle of another shop, scanning the dresses on the racks, when a shiver ran down my spine. I felt like I was being watched. I looked around the store but didn’t see anything weird. Roe and Nat were arguing over a baby blue chiffon dress, Nat saying it was atrocious, while Roe thinks it’s cute. I’d have to side with Nat on this one. Deena was sitting on a pink velvet day bed listening to the exchange and Felix was standing by the entrance to the little boutique. His eyes constantly searching. There were two other young women in the store, but I couldn’t see anyone else.
Looking back to the rack, an emerald green silk material caught my eye. I pulled the dress out and held it up in front of me. It looks really pretty. I took the dress to the change room and undressed out of my denim skirt and baggy white crop top. The dress material slid over my skin like water. The cowl neck front accentuated what little cleavage I have, while the silk hung tight on my hips, giving me the illusion of having curves. I turned to see the back in the mirror and fell more in love with the dress. Thin spaghetti straps connected to the front of the dress and came over my shoulders and down my back in a criss-cross pattern, ending at the small of my back. The thigh high spilt made the dress feel a little more flowy and less constricting. This is definitely the most revealing thing I have ever worn, but I love it. I could not stop staring at myself. The dark green made my pale skin glow and in contrast with my raven hair, I looked like some kind of modern-day Snow White.
I stepped out of the change room and stood in front of the wall to ceiling mirror in the common dressing area. The change of lighting made me love the dress more again. Twirling in slow circles in front of the mirror and swaying the train of the dress around my legs, I felt like a princess.
“You look lovely” a deep accented voice came from the entrance to the dressing area.
