Mother of the Moon - Chapter 96 - Hurting

Zelena.

Gunner’s large wolf laid beside me, resting his head on my back.
***Why does this hurt so much?***
***It’s your Luna bond, you can feel his grief***
***It’s so painful***
***You just haven’t learnt to cut off the link yet, it will get better. I’ll teach you***
***I don’t deserve to feel better***
***Zelena, it wasn’t your fault, you have to know that. Cole is just hurting and is looking for someone to blame. He’ll come around eventually***
***I don’t think so***
Off in the distance the most sorrowful and pain filled howl that I had ever heard echoed through the trees. It’s Cole’s wolf. Gunner whined softly before throwing his head back and joining in on the howl. I rubbed my head into his neck before lifting it to the sky and howling as well. Soon the afternoon air was filled with howls from all around us, the pack hearing the mournful cry of their Beta and grieving with him.
Gunner lowered his head, nuzzling into my neck.
***I’m sorry he said those things to you***
***It’s okay, I should have listened to you and given him space***
***No, he should never have spoken to you like that, and he will be reprimanded***
I jumped to my feet and barked down at Gunner.
***Don’t you dare. He needed to say what he said, he didn’t threaten me or do anything dangerous, he was just expressing how he felt.***
***He disrespected you***
***It’s okay, please let it go***
***I can’t do that***
***Gunner please, just leave it alone***
He stood up slowly and shook out his fur, with a huff and a low growl he nodded.
***Just this once***
***Thankyou***
***Come one now, we should head back to the house***
Dinner came quickly after we got back to the house and Roe put on quite the spread. Along with the usual family members, she had invited Smith and his mum, Deena. I hadn’t seen her since the day of the battle, she left on the bus with many of the other she-wolves. She was very excited to sit and gossip with me. Also in attendance was Tobias and a warrior wolf, who’s name I believe is Felix. No Cole. After the events of this afternoon, I was exhausted and feeling too dejected to fully get into the spirit of family dinner. I hated that I was being so rude and withdrawn from everyone, but I was just not feeling it. After the main course Gunner came to kneel by my chair, drawing me from my blank daydream.
“Come on love, let’s get you to bed” he whispered, placing a soft kiss to my cheek.
“Your mum…”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it” he cut me off.
I looked over at Roe and she nodded her head and waved her hands in a shoeing motion. I smiled weakly and allowed Gunner to lead me out of the dining hall.
“I didn’t say goodnight to anyone” I said as we walked slowly up the stairs.
“You didn’t need to, anyone at that table could see that you’re a walking zombie” he chuckled,
“Was I really rude?” I sighed,
“No little wolf, don’t fret on it. But before we go to bed, I have a surprise for you”.
He led me past our bedroom and to a door few doors further down the hallway. He let go of my hand pushed oped the door and stood to the side to let me in. I stepped into the magnificent bathroom alight with only candles. The smell of lavender and honey filled my nostrils as my eyes fell on a huge bathtub filled to the brim with bubbles. The whole scene looked heavenly.
“You did all this for me?” I smiled back at him.
“Of course I did” he smiled, stepping forward and wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder.
“But when?”
“During dinner” he chuckled, and I huffed. I didn’t even realise he left the table.
“I’m not surprised that you didn’t notice I disappeared, you look exhausted” he said softly before pressing gentle kisses to my neck.
“Thank you” I whispered, still admiring all the candles and the scents around the room. Who knew my Mate was such a romantic.
Gunner gripped the hem of my shirt and began to lift it over my stomach. I lifted my hands to allowed him to pull it up and over my head and then toss it on the floor. He run his fingers softly up my spine and then unclasped my bra, letting it fall to the floor. He fingers slowly moved over the bare skin of my back before coming up and down my arms. He traced along my collarbone and gently between my breasts. Moving his fingers slowly down my stomach and stopped at my shorts, he unbuttoned them and tugged them down my legs. I stepped out of them and leaned back into Gunners embrace. He continued to move his fingers, ever so softly, all over my exposed skin. A calming heat and pins and needles were left in the wake of his fingers path over my body. My head was resting back on his chest and my eyes were closed, to better allow myself to feel his touch.
“That feels really nice” I croaked out.
He pressed his lips to the top of my shoulder and moved his kisses up my neck, continuing until he reached my temple.
“Hop in before it gets too cold” he said pushing me forward. I tuned and grabbed his hand, looking deep into his eyes.
“Please, will you stay?” I pleaded with him. He smiled and nodded, pulling his shirt off and tossing it to the floor with my own.
I stepped carefully into the tub and lowered myself into the still steaming water. I hissed a little as the heat shocked me, but my body welcomed the hot water. Gunner slid in behind me, pulling me to sit between his legs and lean against his chest. Without saying a word, he picked up a loofah ball, squirted some body wash on it and began to gently rub my chest. He lifted my arm and dragged the sponge up and down my arm, covering it in bubbles. He moved on to the next arm and repeated the process.
“Sit forward” he commanded, and I obliged. Sitting up I hugged my knees and Gunner began to move the sponge in circles on my back. He was so soft and gentle with his movements, like I was the most delicate thing in the world. He lightly swept he fingers over the mark on the back of my neck, outlining the shape of each moon. I adore this side of Gunner, the caring and romantic side. He is always caring but he usually has a bit more of a protective and passiveness to his love. Right here, right now, I can feel nothing but pure love and adoration coming from him.
He pulled me back into his arms and I rested my head on his shoulder as he gently caressed my arms and stomach. The bathroom was silent, the water was deliciously warm, and the scent of the lavender was seriously soothing. Before I knew it, I was out.
