Mother of the Moon - Chapter 175 - Who's in the Basement
Launaya.
Neither Alpha Hina or Phoebe could get a word out of the mystery woman. Though I think we all had our theories on who they might be. Phoebe tried to coax her out of the tiny dark room. She offered her food, water, blankets, but nothing worked. I can’t help but wonder how long they have been in there. We checked over the house once more, confirming that there was no one else left inside, then we went back out to the yard. The battalion that I left Alpha Hina and Lupus to deal with, had been killed. Bodies littered the ground, both in wolf and human forms. The grass was stained with blood. We jogged around to the other side of the house where the Howlers had been fighting. They had moved on now too, leaving more bodies in their wake. We eventually found the rest of our allies. Taking out what looks to be the last of the Origin Wolf pack warriors and their allies. Before we left Tri-Moon, the leaders briefly discussed the possibility of surrender and taking prisoners. It is not in the nature of a Were to be forgiving, a trait that I have always disliked in our kind. Majority of the pack leaders were against leaving survivors. And they haven’t. I was just glad that I could not see the bodies of children among the dead. Meaning the young, the elderly and the unfit to fight, had been left in another camp somewhere away from here. The battle was brutal and very bloody. But we came out on top. As the last enemy wolf fell to the ground dead, the remaining fighters howled into the air to signal their victory. Hina, myself and the others howled along as well, and then broke apart to hug each other. Cleo wrapped her massive arms around my body and squeezed. A gesture I was not expecting from her. She is usually so reserved and sullen. Joy is a strange emotion on her fierce face.
“You fought well” she said firmly. She let me go and tapped my cheek lightly before turning to hug one of her pack mates. Hina grabbed my shoulders and rested her head against my forehead. She moved her hands up to cup my neck and I held onto her waist.
“Thank you for coming” I said softly,
“You’re welcome” she said back.
“I don’t know if we would have had the same outcome without you”
“I came for you too, not just the Goddess. You are very special Lunaya” she said as she moved her head forward, pressing her lips against mine. I kissed her back, just slightly, then we broke apart. Lupus walked over, with a very obvious limp. His wide thigh had a cloth tied around it tightly, but his blood had still soaked it through. Behind Lupus stood the red-head Smith, the warriors Felix and Faylene, and the tall Were with the long hair, Julien, I think. They were all covered in blood, Smith wore a few scratches across his chiselled chest. The she-wolf, Faylene, had a single slash from the top of her forehead, over her left eye and halfway down her cheek. She had tied a piece of cloth over her eye like a pirate's patch. Felix looked untouched, just like Hina. He must be an excellent fighter.
“Glad to see you’re alive” Lupus said roughly as he stopped in front of me,
“Is that sarcasm?” I asked with a smirk,
“Not at all, it would be a damned shame if you died before Zelena got to know who you really are” he said as he extended me his hand. I gazed at him wide eyed and took his hand. I had gotten the impression that he and Roe were not happy I had arrived. That maybe they thought I was going to replace them as her parental figures. Hearing a compliment from the brutish Lupus was a right shock. Lupus pulled me forward and pressed his forehead to mine, initiating Sevasmo. As his emotions and feelings washed through me, I felt that he was tired and weak from fighting. He wants to go home and kiss his wife. So do I, Alyse that is, if she’ll let me. Lupus pulled back and tipped his head to the side, while continuing to hold my forearm.
“Where is Artemis?” he asked me,
“He’s dead” I answered bluntly, Lupus snarled and squeezed my arm,
“Was that by your hand?” he questioned harshly,
“It was. Is that a problem?” I asked back, just as hard. I could feel that Cleo, Hina and Phoebe had come to stand behind me.
“He was not yours to kill” Lupus growled and dropped my arm.
“It was our pack that he betrayed, our Luna, our Alpha. His punishment was ours to hand down” Smith spoke up as he stepped forward slightly. He has shown on multiple occasions that he has guts to spare. I admire that about him. But he was wrong this time, he and Lupus.
“The Prophet made an attempt on ‘my’ life, aided in the kidnapping of ‘my’ daughter, and recited ‘my’ family prophecy. He was mine and mine alone to kill”. Lupus, Smith, and the other Tri-Moon Weres began to growl at my defiance. Alpha Hina stepped between us and raised her hands.
“What’s done is done, the traitor has been delt with. Let's take the win and move on. Besides, we still need to figure out who is in the basement” she said using her diplomatic Alpha voice. Lupus perked up at the mention of the mystery woman.
“Who’s in the basement?” he asked,
“Yes, that’s what I said” Hina quipped back. Lupus growled and huffed,
“No, are you saying that you found someone in the basement?” he asked annoyed.
“Yes, that’s what I just said” Hina teased him. I know she can handle herself, but she is playing with fire here. Lupus growled and stepped closer. This made all of the Luna Eclipse she-wolves growl and close in. Smith moved in front of Lupus and pushed him back.
“Show me” Smith demanded as he turned to face me fully. I shrugged and nodded my head and then turned to go back into the farmhouse. Smith and Faylene followed behind me, while the others stayed with Lupus and Hina. We descended the steps, and I unlocked the two padlocks. I figured that Origin Wolf have kept them locked up for a reason, and seeing as we don’t know what that reason is, it’s best we keep them under lock and key as well. At least for now. I pushed the door wide open and let the light shine in. The woman was still in the corner with the boy tucked away behind her. She was facing us with her canines extended and on full display. Smith stepped into the doorway and the woman growled and hissed at him.
“I wouldn’t get too close. She already took a swipe at Phoebe” I told him.
“Who is she?” he asked while studying the woman.
“Were you not listening when we said we didn’t know that yet” I answered sarcastically. Smith crouched down and extended his hand towards her. She growled and snapped her hand out, nearly clawing his arm. He jumped back and came to stand beside me by the door again.
“You have a theory though, I can see it on your face” he snipped.
“Yeh, I have an idea” I said as I looked over the small boy. The girl was young, not a teenager but perhaps early twenties. If she wasn’t covered in dirt and grime, and she didn’t smell like a sewerage, I would guess she was quite attractive. The kind of attractive that would lure in a cocky Alpha.
“Are you going to share it?” he grumbled. I crouched down and looked into the woman's bright green eyes.
“I think this is the Origin Wolf Luna, or at least the Alpha’s plaything. Which I would have to guess, makes that that boy the Alpha-son. Meaning he is a descendant of Gill. My rival. Zelena’s rival”. As soon as I said the word ‘Gill’ the woman began to snarl and bark. Her body was shaking, like she was having trouble changing form. I would bet my right arm that she is near on Feral. Without her Alpha here to help with the change, one more shift and I would guess she’ll be stuck. It sure as shit explains the aggression and lack of talking.
