Twin Moon - Chapter 227 - Mia Dea

Whiskey.

As I approached the closed door, I heard Saxton speaking excitedly.
“You know what this could mean for us, for the pack. It's huge. The world will bow at our feet” he said happily.
“There are still tests that need to be done. We need to confirm this, multiple times, be one hundred percent sure of it before we make any moves. Which includes alerting the rest of the pack. You are not to say a word to anyone until I give the go ahead” the Alpha spoke firmly.
“What else is there to confirm, I've given you all of the information you need” Saxton clapped back.
“This is no small feat. We can’t go off half-cocked and start a war” The Alpha growled. What war? What are they talking about? If Saxton is so excited about it, why hasn’t he told me anything.
“The war has already started. In case you haven’t noticed, it’s been going on for centuries. At least Whiskey has been doing something about it. We both have. But this, this will help us. This will rally packs from all over the world. We can finally end this, for real this time” Saxton argued. What is he talking about? What have I been doing? Could he mean the hunters and me wiping out their compounds. I am doing that for me, not for them, for the werewolves. I don’t care if they benefit or suffer from my actions. I only care about setting out to do what I planned to do. And that is to kill every single one of the monstrous bastards that walk this earth. And then, once they are all dead, I will kill off their families. Their children, their brothers and sister, cousins, grandparents, uncles, all of them. I will not stop until the earth beneath my feet runs red with blood. I will not stop until the word ‘hunter’ has been wiped from the history books.
“I know, I know. But this, this is not something we can chance. If we spread the news and it turns out that you’re wrong, it will not end well for Red River” Alpha Antonio said softly.
“I’m not wrong” Saxton said strongly. I could hear the confidence in his voice. Which leads me to wonder, what is he so sure of? The Alpha sighed loudly. I heard a chair scrape and footsteps. A moment of silence and then he spoke,
“Tell me again, from the start” Antonio said slowly,
“The start you already know” Saxton groaned,
“Tell me anyway, I need to get my head around this”.
“We were caught and taken to a compound in Naples”
“You and Giana?”
“Yes”
“The same compound that she died in?”
“Yes”
“Okay, go on”.
“We were beaten and tortured for maybe two weeks, could be more, it was hard to keep time down there. One night the whole building lit up like a Christmas tree. Shouting, gunfire, the lot. It was clear that they were under attack. After a while it got real silent, and then she came through the door. I thought she was going to leave me there for a minute, but she broke the chains and helped me escape”
“Giana was already dead at this point?” the Alpha interrupted,
“Yes” Saxton replied quickly. He lied. Why would he lie? He knew she was still alive, he fought me to save her too. But once I told him that she wouldn’t make it, and he either leaves with me now or I leave them both, he gave up and left her hanging there. Why would he lie to the Alpha about that, who was she to him?
“As she was carrying me through the compound, I saw all of the bodies. They were all dead. I must have passed at least twenty of them. When I asked her where her team was, she said it was just her”
“And you didn’t see anyone else?”
“No. It really was just her”
“Okay, continue”.
“She didn’t say a whole lot at first, wouldn’t even tell me her name. It took maybe a week to get back to full strength, and it was fucking hard trying to convince her not to leave me during that time. When she found the next compound, she demanded I go, but by that time I was already in too deep. She’s cold and withdrawn, but she also has this magnetism about her. I watched her tear that compound to shreds, killing the hunters without mercy. It was an incredible sight. I can’t... I can’t even describe it”. Saxton spoke so proudly when he retold our first few weeks together. I could hear the astonishment and adoration in his voice. It was nice to hear how he really feels about me, unfiltered and honest.
“That was the night I first realised she had a power. I couldn’t believe it, I was sure I was hallucinating. But I wasn’t, I saw it, it happened. I was determined to learn more about her. I had my suspicions from the get-go, but I had to be sure before I brought her home. The next few months, I worked on gaining her trust and winning her heart”.
We agreed that my power would be kept a secret between the two of us. How could Saxton betray me like this? Why would he share that with the Alpha. And now I learn that it was his plan all along to bring me back here, but why? He has told so many lies, but I still don’t understand why. What piece of the puzzle am I missing here?
“And you did win her over, after six months?” the Alpha asked,
“Yes, it was six months later that we Mated. Though she didn’t know what it meant, she didn’t know anything about our ways or traditions”.
“That part I can’t get my head around. She knows about hunters, and she knows she is a Were, how could she not no more about her own kind?”
“Well after we did the ritual, she said she isn’t a real Were” Saxton said slowly, like he was remembering it as he spoke.
“That is the first time you have told me that part” the Alpha said loudly,
“I didn’t think of it, and I didn’t remember it until just now. I honestly didn’t think she meant anything by it, just that she didn’t grow up with a pack, so she didn’t consider herself a real Were”.
“She told you that? Well then, where did she grow up?”
“I don’t know”
“Who are her parents?”
“I don’t know”
“Why did she start hunting the hunters?”
“I don’t know that either”
“Then what the fuck do you know, Saxton? You have given me nothing but more questions and wild possibilities. This girl is a complete mystery, how could we even know for sure about who she is if she won’t even tell you, her Mate” the Alpha screamed. I could feel the tension in the room rising, it was seeping through the door. My own anger was growing considerably. The nerve of these beasts. Talking about me behind closed doors, trying to guess and speculate about my past instead of asking me directly. Granted, I wouldn’t tell them anyway, but still. I was ready to break down the door and demand answers of my own, but then Saxton began shouting back at the Alpha.
“What more do you need to know Antonio? She has power over the wind and air. She bares the mark of the Goddess on her skin. Everyone thought the line had ended what? Eighteen, nineteen years ago. She can’t be older than twenty. It fits Alpha, you can’t deny that all the pieces fit. If she isn’t the Triple Goddess, then I'm not a Were”.
Triple Goddess. What is that? And what mark is he speaking of, I have literally thousands of marks on my body. My skin is littered with scars, how could he think that just one of them makes me a what? A Goddess? These fucking dogs and their fucking gods. I've had enough of this.
I kicked the door with my foot, sending it crashing to the floor across the room. Both Saxton and Alpha Antonio spun to face the door, the both of them ready to fight. Only when they saw me, they relaxed some. That was a mistake on their part.
“Tesoro, why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?” Saxton said softly as he stepped towards me. I curled my lips back and growled a warning to him. He froze in place and lifted his head quizzically. I let the fire burn through my veins, allowing the rage to fuel my power. I summoned the air around me and used it to lift the Alpha off his feet. I threw him across the room to crash high into the wall. He hit the ground with a hard thud, and I quickly picked him up again. This time I held him upright against the wall with his feet dangling above the floor. The wind whipped around the room, sending my hair lashing against my face, and a mess of paper soaring through the air.
“Stop, what are you doing?” Saxton screamed as he rushed over to me. He grabbed my shoulder and tried to pull my attention away from the Alpha. I snapped my hand out and wrapped my fingers around his neck. He didn’t fight me, just stared at me with sad eyes. I pulled him close to my face and growled lowly.
“You lied to me” I hissed angrily.
“I’m sorry” he choked out. He lifted his hand and gently stroked my face. The show of affection after his blatant betrayal just enraged me more. I squeezed my grip and growled.
“You promised that it would stay between us”
“I know, let me explain” he said as he tapped the hand that was holding his throat. My mind was in two. I wanted to trust him, to believe him. But all of my instincts were telling me to snap his neck.
“Please Stellina” Saxton whispered. His eyes held so much emotion, so much love. I looked over his pleading face, his smooth caramel skin was starting to get red and his mouth was gasping in deep breaths. I know that he loves me, I can see it, even if he did break his promise. I sighed deeply and released my grip. He dropped to his knee and coughed. As I left him to catch his breath, I turned back to the Alpha and snarled. He had been watching me closely the whole time. His body was pressed up against the wall, his arms splayed at his sides, unable to move due to the pressure of the air around him. His eyes were so wide that his thick eyebrows were almost touching his hairline. His normally tanned skin was looking pale and sticky with sweat.
“Don’t try anything” I demanded of him. He nodded his head furiously in agreement, and I called back the wind. Antonio dropped to his feet and ran his hands over his body. I'm not sure what he was feeling for, or if he found it, but a second later and he turned back to face me. Saxton stood back at my side and slid his arm around my waist.
“I tried to tell you” he said with a cocky tone, like he had just proven his point. I peeked at him out of the corner of my eye, he had a proud smirk on his lips and his eyes looked down at the Alpha with a glint of malice. Could he have possibly known I was listening on the other side of the door, and that I would have reacted this way? Did he use me again, manipulate my anger to his own advantage? Would he go that far, again?
“Mia Dea” Antonio whispered before dropping to his hands and knees.
“My Goddess” he said softly. He bowed his head and lifted his hands out in front of him, holding his palms forward to face me. What the fuck is the idiot doing now?
