Twin Moon - Chapter 268 - A Promise

Whiskey.

“You!” I growled out and stepped back away from her touch. Her face remained the same but she sighed,
“You remember” she said with a nod.
“Oh, I remember. But why did I forget in the first place?” I demanded angrily.
“It was the only way” she answered after a second.
“Only way for what?” I grunted. My voice took on a low gravelly sound, the anger burning through my body was workings its way into my words.
“For you to survive” she quipped with hesitation. I scoffed and began to pace the floor. I need to do something, to move around, busy myself before I tear her beautiful face apart.
“There was another way, you could have taken me away from this hell-hole” I shouted as I paced the floor,
“You know I could not”
“That’s bullshit!” I screamed and turned to face her.
“Aurora, as I told you before, as I told the both of you many times, I could not interfere with the decisions of others”.
I turned away from her quickly, thinking over the words she used. The both of us. Could she mean... Zee, or Zelena, whatever her name is. I saw it in my dream thingy, the abuse that she endured at the hands of the man she thought was her father. Which leads me to think, that if perhaps Selene was watching over her too, Zelena also pleaded for rescue. The only answer I need to know now is if she helped her whilst abandoning me.
“And yet, she got free” I said venomously as I turned slowly back around to face her again. Selene looked back at me, not responding to my comment. The silence alone feels an awful lot like an answer. Anger was coursing through me, heating my blood and sending my heart thumping in my chest. After what felt like a long while, Selene sighed.
“In the end, she did. As did you” she said slowly,
“That’s different” I snapped harshly.
“You and Zelena are two branches of the same tree. You have grown in different directions, each forging your own path and each suffering through different trials. But in the end, you are still, inarguably, made from the same material. Your differences are what make you, you. Even if you have come from the same roots. You cannot compare your trials to hers. You cannot compare her life to yours. Do you understand?”.
Each word from her mouth only made me hate her more. My arms were shaking from the rage. My canines tingled and my claws pressed against my fingertips. I fucking hate her. She can spin all the stories and tell all the lies she wants to, the bottom line doesn’t change. She left me to rot in that frozen hell. All the while her precious Zee was living the good life. The life I should have had. She got a shiny new family, she got her own pack, she got friends and people that love her, she got Gunner. What did I get? Scars, lies and betrayal. I should be the one with the pretty family. I should be the one with Gunner. I deserve it. Not her. She stole the life that was meant for me. And I am going to take it back.
“I’m going to kill you”.
The whispered words slipped through my clenched teeth before I could stop them. But it felt better than good to say it out loud, so why not roll with it. I lifted my head slowly and glared at Selene with all the coldness in my heart.
“Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but I swear to you, one day I will kill you” I proclaimed as I stared her down. She looked back at me with no emotion on her perfect face. The room we were in moments ago was gone. We were no longer in the icebox that was my childhood confines. We were now in a white field, lined with white trees and white flowers. Selene was further away from me now too. She was halfway across the open field, a fair distance, but I could still see her clearly. I could probably even still reach her, if I ran for it, with the added help from my power. She stood stoically with her hands clasped in front of her. Her hair and dress blew in around her in the non-existent breeze. She stared back at me silently, with her face still void of any emotion.
“I swear it, with everything I am, your death will come by my hands” I hissed venomously. My entire body was trembling, rage coursing through my every atom, shaking me to the very core. Selene sighed heavily and unclasped her hands.
“I never wanted this for you” she said sternly and waved her long thin arm out in front of her. It was like I was hit with a wall of water. The air was forced from my lungs, and I could feel my body flying rapidly backwards. I hit the ground and got my breath back with one large gasp. I scrambled quickly to my feet and crashed into something behind me, a table, where did a table come from. My legs felt like jelly, I was panting hard and feeling disoriented. I was able to catch myself on the edge of the table before I fell down again. That fucking bitch with her mystical bullshit. Now I really will kill her, and to hell with waiting, I'm going to do it right fucking now. I glared up at Selene, but she was gone. Instead Lunaya, Lupus and the small woman were all looking down at me with worried expressions.
“Are you alright darling?” Lunaya blurted out and rushed to help me steady my feet. Lunaya, my mother. If you can even call her that. She's just the bitch that shat me out. I have no mother. I have lived without one my entire life, why change that now.
“Get away from me” I growled and slashed at her arm with my claws. She yelped in surprise and jumped back away from me. Lupus was quick to drag her behind his large protective frame, where the small woman fussed over the fresh wounds on her forearm.
“Easy” Lupus growled down at me. Lunaya pushed the woman’s hands away and shoved past Lupus again,
“What did you see?” she asked me urgently. I curled my lip back and snarled. She knew. She knew all along, who I was, what I was to her. By the anxious look on her face, she probably knew I would see Selene when she touched my forehead. That was her plan all along, wasn’t it. She wanted to force me to remember her, remember Selene, Zelena, my father, all of them. Did she think that would change things? Did she expect me to weep and jump into her arms, happy to be reunited once again. If so, she was naive. She was straight up stupid. This new knowledge changes nothing.
“Aurora, what did you see?” Lunaya asked more sternly,
“I saw enough” I snorted angrily and pushed myself up off the ground.
“So, you know then? You know who I am?” she asked stepping toward me. I hissed, flashing my sharp teeth and stepped back. Lupus gripped her arm, forcing her to stop from coming any closer. Her blood was dripping down her forearm from the slashes I gave her and creating a small puddle on the floor.
“Aurora?” she whispered gently. I hate that fucking name. That's not who I am. Maybe it was, once, when I was still in diapers and blind to the real world. But not anymore. They all made sure of that.
“Don’t call me that” I growled,
“What’s wrong my darling?” Lunaya asked sadly,
“I’m not your darling”
“Don’t you know, didn’t she show you?”
“She showed me everything, I remember everything. I know who you are”
“I’m your mother”
“I have no mother, you are no one”
“Aurora, why...”
“You are nothing!” I shouted cutting her off,
“Aurora, please...” Lunaya tried to plead with me,
“Don’t call me that!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. The sound of my voice reverberated through the kitchen. With it came the full force of my power. The wind swept Lunaya from her feet and over the benchtop behind her. The small woman skidded along the floor, knocking over a few bar stools as she went. Lupus ducked down low, and after digging his claws into the timber floor, he managed to only get dragged back a few feet. With the three of them down, I took my chance and ran from the kitchen. A large heavy looking wooden door was to the right, fingers crossed it was the way out. I pulled it open and ran out onto the porch. Once outside It took me just a split second to make my next move. The area below looked to be the main village, it was busy with people, all of which were completely unaware of my presence. I snapped my head around quickly, finding the closest section of bushland. I then jumped over the porch railing and continued to run to the left of the house, avoiding the heart of the village. The trees were closest in that direction and the area seemed semi empty. I didn’t hear any sounds of chase and I didn’t wait to look back to confirm it. I just ran.
After a few minutes of continuous running, I spotted a very large tree with thick long branches high into the sky. I didn’t slow down as I approached the wide trunk of the tree. Instead, using my power, I launched myself up into the air, landing halfway up the tree trunk. I dug my claws into the bark and climbed up to the first branch thick enough to shield me. I swung my leg over it and pressed my stomach and cheek to the rough bark of the tree. I was breathing heavily, huffing harshly through my nose. It wasn’t because I was exhausted from the running, no, it was from my undying anger. I hate them. All of them. Lunaya, my so-called mother. Zelena, the doppelgänger bitch that stole my life. Gunner, the idiot that fell for her witchcraft. And especially Selene, the whore that started it all. As far as I'm concerned, Aurora is dead. She died along with her father, ten years ago, back in Russia. I am who I have always been. I am Whiskey. I am the merchant of death. I will destroy these mutts, and every other mutt alive. The werewolf scum will be eradicated by my hand, every last one of them. I will be the ghost in the night that torments their every thought. I will find solace being their worst nightmare. Before I take my final breath, I will rain down pain and destruction onto their perfectly happy little lives. They will know fear like never before. They will know agony, they will know torture. Those monsters will feel the kind of pain that they never knew was possible. And they will never see me coming.
