Mother of the Moon - Chapter 174 - The Dead Prophecy

Lunaya.

I stared at the dirty woman, who looked like she had been through her own version of hell. The little boy in her arms was digging himself as far into her embrace as he could. I imagine that they’d both reek of fear, if I could stand to smell them over the grotesque smell of human filth.
“Who are you?” I hissed quietly. The woman shielded the boy from my view, pulled her lips back over her teeth and growled at me.
“Why are you here?” I whisper yelled. Still no response, just more growling. Can this chick even speak? Ah fuck it, I don’t have the time right now.
“I’ll be back” I said firmly before closing the door and putting the locks back in place. I put the chain around my neck and made my way back up the stairs. I pressed my ear to the door and listened. I could hear shouting. One male voice was yelling for someone to come back, while another male voice was yelling about backup. I guess things have progressed in the ten minutes I've been down here. I pushed open the door and snuck a peak through the small crack. I can’t see anyone, and the yelling is coming from the kitchen area. I stepped through the door and pushed it closed behind me. The sound of glass shattering and more yelling and screaming filled the house, followed closely by growling barking and snapping bones. I ran to the walkway where the hallway opens to the kitchen and living space. The scene here had definitely changed. The Weres that I saw in there earlier were now dead, and their blood covered the walls. Alpha Hina was standing over one of the bodies in her human form. She was drenched in blood, but if it was at all possible, I don’t think she has a scratch on her.
“You made quick work of them” I said as I stepped into the room. Cleo’s wolf dropped a human arm and growled. I don’t need to hear her to tell me that she’s mad I came in here without her. Hina turned around and smirked wickedly.
“They are weak” she hissed. Two more Luna Eclipse wolves were in the living space with them, one of which I think is Phoebe.
“Did you find the Prophet?” Hina asked as she stepped over a body,
“I found something” I quipped back with a roll of my eyes. She crossed her arms, which made her bare breasts lift and push together. I'm not blind, and I'm still part human. I licked my lips as I gazed at her perked nipples. Not the time Lunaya. I scolded myself as I shook my head and looked back up to Hina’s dark eyes. She was smirking at me with a raised eyebrow.
“I’ll show you after, but first, Artemis. I think he is upstairs” I said feeling a little flushed. Hina motioned her hand and turned her body, allowing me to take the lead. I stepped around her as her eyes remained firmly on mine. We headed towards the back of the house, looking for a staircase. More bodies were splayed out on the floor, with more blood covering the walls and hardwood floors. They really did work quick in here. We got to a large stairwell, and I went to head up. Hina grabbed my arm and pulled me back, then waved her hand for Cleo and the other two wolves to go first. She held me there for a minute as we listened. There was a loud crash, then a yell, then silence. Another crash, more yelling, some barking and then silence again.
“Okay” Hina said and let go of my arm. I ran up the stairs and went to the right first. A few dead Weres were spread out here and there. But no Artemis. One of the rooms was interesting though. No door, no glass on the windows, and deep cracks etched into the brick walls. Looks like something big went down in here.
“Lunaya” Hina’s voiced called out. I left the room and followed her voice to a room at the other end of the house. She was standing by the door, leaving me enough room to step in. As soon as I did, I spotted the Were I came here for.
“Artemis” I growled as my anger ignited. He sat in an armchair in the corner of the room. Cleo stood beside him in her human form with a firm grip on his shoulder. The other two wolves surrounded him as well. But he didn’t look like he wanted to run or fight. He looks like he is right where he wanted to be. I walked over to him, swung my arm back and then flew it forward, connecting my fist with his jaw. He grunted and his head snapped to the side. I have no doubt that if it weren’t for Cleo holding him, he would have gone flying off his seat.
“Traitor” I growled down at him. He lifted his head and smirked.
“I not betray, I help, I guide” he said with a cocky confidence.
“You turned on the Goddess, aided in her kidnapping. How is that not a betrayal?” I yelled.
“I do as prophecy foretold. Deliver her to the right Mate” he snapped back.
“The right Mate?” I mumbled confused,
“Gunner is weak, soft. Alpha Galterio is strong. He ready to lead, he ready to dominate. Wolf need this. Wolf need king, not boy”. I watched Artemis as he spoke. I can hear him, and although his accent is thick, I understand what he is saying. But what does this have to do with the prophecy?
“You took her from her True Mate, to what? Mate with another?” Alpha Hina asked him as she stepped up to my side. Artemis didn’t answer, just smiled wickedly. He thinks that she could take another Mate, even after meeting and mating with her destined Mate? Why would he think that is at all possible? What am I missing here?
“A True Mate can never take another. What kind of Prophet doesn’t know that?” Hina snapped at him, taking the question right out of my mouth.
“Prophecy foretold it” he said back, with the utmost belief and conviction in his words.
“You keep saying that, but I am starting to wonder if you even know what the prophecy is” I said with a tilt of my head.
“Spawned by the one who gave us breath. Vanished from life but spared from death. The Ethereal one gives she who is promised. To wield the power of the Triple Goddess...”
“Yes, yes, yes. Where the moon is three, two will come, blah, blah, blah. We've already done this” I snapped at him, becoming more and more frustrated.
“Yes, two will come. Two Mates. One weak, that Gunner. One strong, that Galterio. Triplí Theá must choose one and kill the other”.
Cleo growled and looked up over to me. Hina also turned to look at me now. All of them waiting and watching for me to react. I laughed. I laughed hard. Artemis frowned and shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. This fucking idiot. He has no idea. All this time I have been stressing and worrying over what he knows and who he has told. He knows fucking nothing. I rested my hands on my knees and continued to laugh. Letting all my pent-up stress flow out of me.
“Are you done?” Hina growled lowly. I stood up straight and sighed. A dramatic and overly exaggerated sigh.
“Oh Artemis. You’re not a Prophet. You're a fool” I chuckled. He growled and leaned forward, only to be slammed back again by Cleo.
“You think Gunner is weak, and yet the Moon Goddess herself picked him to be with her chosen daughter. You thought that you could replace her True Mate with that pretender. Please. Origin Wolf is a joke. They are egotistical and self-important douchebags. They have been since that first idiot, Gill” I snapped. My voice getting louder and harder as I spoke. I stepped forward and leaned down, placing each of my hands on the armrests, forcing Artemis to lean back further. I moved my head to his ear and growled.
“You think the prophecy speaks of two Mates. Well, you’re wrong. Very, very wrong. And now, you’ll never live long enough to learn the truth” I hissed into his ear. I heard him gasp in shock, but before he got the chance to question me, I slammed my fist into his chest. Punching through his ribcage and hitting his heart. I felt his heart rip apart from the force of my fist. Blood spurted from his mouth and dribbled down his chin. His eyes rolled back, and his head flopped to the side. I withdrew my hand from his chest, stood up straight and flicked the blood from my fingers. Cleo and Hina both looked at me with proud expressions.
“Come, I'll show you what I found in the basement” I said as I walked out of the room. Leaving Artemis and the dead prophecy behind me, hopefully for good this time.
