Twin Moon - Chapter 287 - It Has To Be Me
Zelena.
I sat back a listened intently as they discussed their options. The main topic of the discussion was about how they can trap Whiskey without her turning her powers on them. They came up with a few different versions of surprise attacks, to power suppressing plants, to normal human drugs. I kept my mouth shut while I listened. I knew that none of them would work. The only option was me. Everyone is constantly on me about how I am yet to realise my full potential. How I am more powerful than I know. That I am strong and undeniable, basically a superhero. Whiskey is my other half. My twin, my equal. Selene created us this way. If I am as powerful as everyone claims, then she is too. No one will be able to stand against her. Not even Gunner. He can access a lot of my power and my strength, but I could always feel the blockage. I am the Triple Goddess, the power is mine. He can’t access all of it, not like I can. I stood up and cleared my throat, gaining everyone’s attention.
“Can I have a moment?” I asked, stepping up to the edge of the table.
“Of course my love, you are the Luna, you can always have a voice here” Gunner said as he pulled me to his side. His arm came around my hip and I wrapped mine around his back. I fisted his shirt in my fist at his stomach and swallowed hard.
“I appreciate what you’re doing here.” I began on a shaky voice,
“I know how hard you are all working. I know the lengths that each and every one of you will go to in order to protect this pack and its inhabitants. You’re good men, good people, Gunner and I are lucky to call you our friends”
“What’s going on Zee?” Smith interrupted. I glanced over at him and sighed slightly. This is going to go down like a bag of dicks.
“I understand that you all have more experience with this sort of thing, but I have a plan of my own” I said strongly.
“Are you going to share this plan of yours?” Smith asked with a smirk. I tightened my hand around Gunner’s shirt and nodded.
“Firstly, you need to move the women, children, and the elderly back to the safe houses. I know they have had to come and go multiple times now. With the hunters and all that. But if all goes to plan, this should be the last time they will have to leave their homes”
“Agreed” Felix added.
“Second, bring the warriors back to the village. They won't find her out in the forest, not if she doesn’t want them to”
“She isn’t the only one they are looking for” Daniel spoke up. Confused, I looked up at Gunner in question.
“Doyle” he answered on a growl,
“We think he may have more men hidden close by. When I encountered him the last time, he had many more Weres with him than just the ones he allowed us to see” Gunner continued. I had completely forgotten about the scary half-breed.
“Where is Doyle?” I asked,
“We have him secured and under strict guard in the barn” Felix answered.
“Good” I nodded.
“What’s next, Zee?” Smith asked, drawing my attention away from the memory of Alpha Doyle’s half formed face.
“Right, well, you’ve all come up with some good idea’s already” I started,
“But…?” Smith drawled out,
“But, none of them will work” I said bluntly.
“You can’t just simply capture her, she’s too smart for that. Like you said the hunters brainwashed her, tortured her, Goddess knows what else they did to her. We know they were looking for us back then, we know they knew about the Triple Goddess powers. It would make sense for them to use her for her power too”
“What are you getting at, exactly?” Gunner asked,
“I’m trying to say that you can’t underestimate her. She has already shown that she’s powerful”
“Not like you” Gunner interrupted,
“You don’t know that” I clipped back. I reluctantly let go of Gunner and stepped out of his hold.
“Whiskey and I were made as equals. However powerful I may be, she is just a much so”
“Where are you going with this Zee?” Gunner asked with a harshness to his voice. Though I think he has already figured out where I’m going with this. I swallowed hard and drew on whatever courage I could muster.
“The only one that will be able to stop her, is me” I said to the group.
“No” Gunner growled protectively. I knew this is how he was going to react.
“The prophecy says that one of us has to die” I said softly,
“And that will not be you” Smith snapped angrily.
“I don’t want it to be either, but that doesn’t mean I want her to die. However messed up she may be, whatever evil she has done in this world, she is still my sister”.
“Prophecies don’t work like that, you can’t save her. What is foretold will come about, no matter what you do” Felix added, crossing his arms over his muscular chest.
“I know what the prophecy means, I know what has to happen” I snapped at him annoyed. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. As I opened them, I looked over at Felix with a softer gaze.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to snap. This is hard for me, I'm sure you all understand that, but it doesn’t change the facts”.
“What are the facts then, Zelena?” Lupus grumbled.
“Whiskey and I are equally matched, power wise at least. She is too strong for any of you, not even Gunner can match her. I have an idea, but I don’t know if it’ll work” I spat out as fast as I could. Just thinking about it was starting to give me anxiety. I don’t even know if it will work, but I have to at least try. Whiskey deserves as much.
“There’s something I haven’t told you” Gunner piped up. I turned to look at him and frowned. I don’t think I can handle any more bad news at this point in time.
“What?” I blanched.
“To get her to come with me, back to the pack, I did something to her” he said hesitantly.
“What did you do?” Smith asked with a snap in his tone. Gunner faced him and growled, swiftly shutting down any possibility of a challenge. Smith stepped back and dropped his head, conceding to Gunner.
“I used some kind of compulsion on her” Gunner admitted. I hand to shake my head a little to make sure I heard him right.
“Compulsion? Like an Alpha command?” Felix asked before I did. Gunner shook his head and rested his hands on the table.
“No, I don’t think so. It didn’t feel like it at least” he said while looking at his hands. I looked down at my feet to think if anything like that has happened to me. I can’t picture any time that I managed to compel someone to do something against their will.
“What then?” Lupus huffed gruffly.
“I’m not sure. I think it was Goddess magic. But maybe it was mixed with Alpha power, giving it an extra kick”.
“Is that possible?” Smith questioned.
“I said I don’t know. But she was out of it, almost like she was hypnotized. I didn’t even know what was happening the first time I did it” Gunner answered.
“The first time?” I snapped,
“Meaning you’ve hypnotized her more than once?” I asked angrily. Something about this doesn’t sit right with me. He took away her choice, her free will. After everything that I saw the hunters doing to her, this just seems extra cruel. Accidental or not.
“I didn’t mean to, love. Not at first. But I couldn’t see any other way to get her back here without killing me, or trying to escape again” Gunner said gently while reaching his hand out for me to take. I was reaching up for it until he said the last part, then I swiftly pulled it back.
“She tried to escape? So you forced her to come here, I thought she agreed to it?” I asked angrily. I know what she has done, I know she has killed so many people. But I can’t ignore the protective instincts I feel. She is still my family after all.
