Mother of the Moon - Chapter 163 - True Mates

Lunaya.

Alpha Hina stood firm with her gaze piercing into mine. I have questioned her intentions, in front of everyone. This can’t possibly end well. When all of a sudden, Hina began to laugh. A full and happy belly laugh. I can safely say, that was not the kind of reaction I thought she was going to have. I expected growling, snarling and even violence. Not this.
“I have missed your crazy imagination” she cackled and wiped an imaginary tear from her eye.
“We are not here to steal your child, Lunaya. After hearing that she had seen, spoken to, and even visited the home of the Moon Goddess, I knew that she is beyond special. I had to meet her for myself. And just as well too. We have come right on time to help you get her back” she said with an amount of humour and joy in her voice that I had never heard from her before. It was actually quite weird and uncomfortable.
“You swear it?” I asked her,
“You doubt me?” she quipped back,
“Do I have reason to?”
“I’m glad to see you haven’t lost your spunk. I promise Lunaya, I only want to meet the child. If she wants to come with us, I will take her. If not, then okay” Alpha Hina chuckled as she patted my shoulder. I turned to look around at the rest of Luna Eclipse and the surrounding Tri-Moon pack. Cole and Lupus pushed their way forward through the warriors. One of Hina’s warriors growled at Lupus as a warning to stop. Lupus stopped and turned his head to glare at the she-wolf, he growled back at her, ten times as powerful and vicious. The warrior twitched and fought against the urge to drop her head, but she let him pass. I’ve got to give her props for just attempting to dominate a Were like Lupus.
“Alpha Hina, this is Beta Cole and the former Alpha, Lupus, of Tri-Moon" I said as I gestured to each of the men.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you both, and thank you for housing us on your land” Hina offered them. She extended her hand to Cole first, he took it and she pulled him in close for Sevasmo. After they broke apart, she did the same to Lupus.
“We appreciate your assistance in getting back our Luna, and may I offer my apologies for the hostile greeting” Cole spoke with firmness and authority well beyond his years.
“I’m happy to let it all go over a big feed” Hina said with a wave of her hand,
“Of course, my wife and the she-wolves have been hard at work in the kitchen for hours. The food will be out shortly. In the meantime, shall we fill you in on the plan so far?” Lupus said with his loud voice booming like always.
“Sounds good, but first, where is the Alpha?” she asked. Just like Alpha Hina to not hold her punches. I have no doubt that Elaine has filled her in on what Gunner has done, and where he is being held. But this is just her, testing them, just like she did with Alyse and I after our arrival at Luna Eclipse.
“The Alpha is currently unavailable” Cole grunted in reply,
“Oh, I am very aware of that” Hina said condescendingly,
“I am curious though, why he is still breathing after threatening the life of the Goddess?”
Lupus growled and stepped forward, standing only an inch away from Hina and towering over her. His lips curled over his teeth and his canine slowly extended. It was a truly terrifying face. Not a look I have seen on the former Alpha before, and not an expression I want to be on the receiving side of.
“Are you threatening my son?” he growled at Alpha Hina.
“Not at all, simply asking a question. I assumed any person that dare threaten the Triple Goddess would be given a swift death” she quipped back as she placed her hands on her hips.
“Not when it’s her Mate” Lupus snarled,
“Oh, so if she meets her death at the hands of her Mate, it’s okay, just not if it’s done by anyone else” Hina said sarcastically. Cole and Lupus both growled at her, to which Elaine growled back.
“Alpha Hina” I hissed. Is she trying to start a fight? What could she possibly gain out of stirring them up?
“I think it’s a fair question. I am actually surprised that you, her own mother, didn’t end his life yourself” she smirked at me.
“We don’t believe he attacked her knowingly, he doesn’t even remember it. But irrespective of that, even if execution was an option, which let me make clear it is not, it wouldn’t matter anyway, he can’t be killed” Cole told her.
“Everyone can be killed” Alpha Hina sneered at him,
“Not if you want her to stay alive” he snapped back. Hina looked at him curiously, evaluating what he just said. Her face hardened and she crossed her arms over her chest,
“Explain” she demanded.
“They are True Mates. You weren’t aware of this?” Cole said with a smirk of his own. True Mates? How did I not know this? If this is right, the most powerful Triple Goddess since Selena, and the Moon Goddess has opened a way for her Mate to access her power. This can’t be right. Would she really allow a male, not from her direct line, to use her power? This could change everything. Gunner has to come with us to Little Mabou. If he can use her power without consequence, we need him.
“You’re telling the truth?” I asked, my full attention now on Cole. He looked at me and his smirked dropped.
“You didn’t already know?” he asked back,
“Of course I didn’t know”
“I’m sorry Lunaya, I thought you knew already” Cole said softly.
“It doesn’t matter. You kill him then you inevitably kill her. End of discussion” Lupus grunted roughly. I grabbed Cole’s shoulder and turned him to face me.
“Has he used her power?” I asked him urgently, Hina was now watching our conversation closely and with keen interest.
“A few times yes” he answered quickly,
“Incredible” Hina whispered.
“He has to come with us, to Origin Wolf, to the fight. If he has her access to her power, we could use him” I rushed out.
“They have only ever shared the power when in close proximity. We don’t even know if he can access it when they aren’t next to each other. Plus, with whatever is going on with him, the risk is too great. I’m sorry, but no” Cole grunted firmly.
“Well I’m sorry Cole. But if you don’t let him out, I will. Gunner has to come, he has to fight. If can use the power of the Goddess, he can almost guarantee our success” I told him defiantly. Alpha Hina seemed to agree with me as she grunted and nodded her head. Cole and Lupus looked at each other and back to me, and then at each other again. A silent conversation went on between their lingering gazes. After a few moments, Lupus nodded his head and Cole puffed out a harsh breath.
“Fine” he huffed.
