Mother of the Moon - Chapter 164 - Move Out
Lunaya.
It was almost time to leave. Two large busses waited in the driveway to take the warriors part of the way there. Hina offered the use of the two Humvee’s as well. With the four vehicles, it will be a very tight fit, but we will all squeeze in. The plan was to leave the vehicles around the Glendyer area, and then go in wolf form the rest of the way. We are to converge on the farm an hour before dawn, at the same time as the packs coming in from the south. That gives us a little over three hours to get there and get into position. Surprisingly, there was no fight and no push back from Alyse when I asked her to stay here. For her to agree so easily, to not even try to convince me she should come, she must be really upset with me. I’ve really fucked up this time, I just hope that I get the chance to make it right again when we return with Zelena.
Tri-Moon began to say their goodbyes and the rest of the warriors started to pile into the buses. A tight fit was an understatement. Every space on the busses was filled, some sitting, some standing, some sitting on top of others. It’s going to be an uncomfortable drive. I was standing by one of the Humvee’s watching Gunner say goodbye to his mother. He leaned down and pressed his forehead to hers while she cupped his cheeks. Her thumb rubbed affectionately over his cheek, as a tear rolled down hers. Their bond is beautiful, and if I'm being honest, I'm envious. The moment that I learnt I was pregnant, I dreamed of sharing moments like this. I saw myself as the loving and doting mother that would move heaven and Earth to see my pup’s smile. I saw our shared giggles and hugs while I brushed her hair. I saw a first crush, a first date and a first heartbreak. I saw our futures. And then I lost it all.
Gunner left his mother with his father and came to stand beside me. He and his Beta were to ride in the Humvee with Hina, myself and all the others. He leaned against the car at my side and pushed his hands into his pockets.
“You convinced them to let me out” he said without looking at me.
“I did” I answered him. He was quiet for a moment, just watching the last of the goodbyes.
“Thank you” he said quietly. I didn’t respond. I didn’t need to. We both know why I fought for him to come. We would both do absolutely anything to get her back. Or die trying.
As the last of the Tri-Moon boarded the bus, we gathered into the Humvee. The engine vibrated through the vehicle as it came to life and started to drive off. The drive was relatively quiet. A few hushed conversations between some of the Luna Eclipse she-wolves, but not much else. We are too lost to our own minds, getting ourselves ready for the fight ahead. Taking a life is never easy. In the moment, maybe. The desire and the urge leading up to it can blanket the fact. But it’s the after that is hard. The memory of it, the reliving it. No matter how noble or important the reason, killing does not come easily.
The first Humvee pulled off onto a rough track and drove for a few more minutes before coming to a stop. The two busses followed by the other Humvee pulled in behind us and everyone began to file out. The feeling in the air was anticipation mixed with excitement. The warriors were riled up after the cramped drive and ready to let loose. Impatient growls and wild looking eyes bounced around the large group of warriors, all ready to kill to get back their beloved Luna and Triple Goddess. Lupus came to stand with Cole and Gunner as Alpha Ambrose and the other Alphas, and Tobias, gathered around.
“Are your packs in place?” Gunner asked while looking at Alpha Travis,
“They are, they have been waiting for over an hour” he responded with a nod.
“Tell them to move in, spread out wide while keeping the lines thick. They are to wait for each of you to give the word before they attack. We have to do this as one, or else we lose the element of surprise” Gunner spoke while moving his eyes to each Alpha.
“Get your wolves to sniff each other out first. Commit the scents of the other packs to memory, so that they all know who not to attack”. Everyone listened closely as Gunner delivered his final preparations.
“Cole has filled me in on the plan you have all arranged, thank you for doing that in my absence. However, if the winds pick up, if our scents are blown in and our cover is compromised, don’t hold back. Don't wait, don’t hesitate. Call out the warning and then attack”.
“Tobias, I want you with me. I need your help to find her and get her out” Gunner said now looking at the giant Were. For an Alpha to admit to needing help is no small thing. It takes courage. Some could see him as weak, others could deem his request as brave. Either way, with Gunner asking for help in front of his strongest allies, it could go either way.
“Of course Alpha” Tobias replied.
“I’m with you as well Alpha Gunner” Hina piped up. I was surprised by her outburst, I thought she would stick with her she-wolves. But if she’s going, I am too.
“As am I" I said firmly, leaving no room for argument,
“And me” Cleo’s hard voice grunted from behind me. Now her, I did expect.
“Very well” Gunner said as he gazed around at the gathered group. His eyes studied each Alpha, each Beta, and every other Were in the tight circle. He had in front of him the head of each of his allied packs. He’s by no means in this alone.
“Let’s move out” he called loudly for all to hear. As the army began to move, so did we.
