The Moon's Descendant - Chapter 16 - Midnight Snack
Zelena.
Gunner carefully placed me down at the breakfast nook and walked over to a tall kitchen cupboard, he grabbed out a floral apron, put it on and curtsied with a big toothy grin.
“How can I serve you madame?” he asked in a terrible French accent. I giggled blushing again. He was so sexy, even wearing a floral apron. I put my elbow on the table and rested my head in my hand.
“What are my options kind sir?” I laughed, ignoring the pain in my chest. He walked around the kitchen going through the cupboards and the fridge, rattling off a bunch of words in his bad French accent. I kind of zoned out and forgot to listen to him, I was too busy drooling over his sexiness. He was wearing a grey shirt with a deep v in the front, his bare chest showing through. He had dark grey sweatpants on and when he turned around, I could see how they stuck to his perfectly toned ass cheeks. His hair was a mess flopping from side to side as he turned his head. Everything about him is positively delicious and I want a taste. Whoa, where did that come from? ‘Down girl’ I scolded myself, I need to get a grip.
“And that’s all there is”. He turned around to face me, I lifted my head snapping back to reality. I have no idea what he just said...
“Cereal sounds nice” I guessed.
“Huh, huh, huh, that is a very good choice” he chuckled, still going with the accent. I smiled and shook my head. He grabbed the coco pops and milk and put them on the table in front of me, he then took off the apron and hung it back in the cupboard. He grabbed two bowls and two spoons. He brought them over and squeezed into the booth next to me. I watched him as he poured in the cereal and then the milk. His biceps bulging a little as he lifted his arm. I breathed in through my nose smelling his sweet odour. Warm sunshine. A hot flash ran through my cheeks and down to my stomach where it danced around. I sniffed him again and my legs felt numb. My crotch tingled with a fiery longing. I squeezed my thighs together as I felt my heart begin to race. What the heck is going on with me. I nearly died and am still in pain, but all I can think of is ripping his clothes off and licking his body from head to toe. Get a grip girl.
“Are you okay?” he asked looking down at me. I felt the blush in my cheeks burn again. I smiled with my lips closed and nodded, worried about what I may say if I spoke aloud. He slid the bowl to me and held out the spoon.
“Bon appétit” he said with a smile. I dipped the spoon in my bowl and lifted it to my lips, as I opened my mouth and felt the cold wet spoon against my tongue, the kitchen door flew open. I peered under Gunner's arm and saw a small lady in a baby pink fluffy dressing gown. She had her chocolate brown hair tied up in a messy bun on top of her head. She looked over at Gunner and her body visibly relaxed.
“It’s late Gunner baby, why are you up?” she whispered from across the room, crossing her arms in front of her. Gunner didn’t say anything, he only leaned back in the chair so that the woman could see me.
‘Oh” she gasped, taking a small step towards us.
“Zelena, darling, you’re out of bed”.
She looked at Gunner, then at me, and back at Gunner again.
“Zee, this is my Mum, Romeá” he smiled looking down at me and then back at his mum. His mum, holy shit he just introduced me to his mother. I swallowed my cereal coughed a little and smiled at her.
“Nice to meet you ma’am”
“Oh, hush now, you can call me Roe” she said flicking her hand in the air.
“I’m surprised to see you down here though”. I don’t think she was talking to me as she was looking at Gunner as she spoke.
“We were a little hungry” said Gunner watching his mum and sitting forward a little, blocking my view of her. I leaned forward so that I could see her, and Gunner turned and looked at me with a frown dancing on his forehead. We were quiet for a second, gazing back and forward at each other, it felt very awkward, there was a strange tension in the air.
“Zelena, my sweet, I’d love to have a talk with you when you’re ready” she said with a smile,
“Not now Mum” Gunner snapped,
“Well of course not now Gunner, but maybe in the morning”
“Maybe” Gunner said as he looked back at his bowl. I don't understand why he is being so short with her. She seems lovely, and she’s being so nice, was I missing something?
“I’d love to Roe” I said smiling at her. Gunner looked at me and frowned a little. Roe looked happy and smiled brightly back at me.
“Okay my loves, just don’t stay up too late and keep the noise down or you’ll wake your father”
“Sure thing Mum” Gunner said watching her as she left the kitchen. Once she was gone, he looked back down at his bowl and kept eating. I stared at him trying to understand this mood he was in all of a sudden. He was so blunt with his mum and a little rude. I hope she didn’t think it was because of me, like I’m a bad influence on him or something. I turned back to my bowl and kept eating slowly. My throat burned with each swallow, which made me wince a little, but the food hitting my stomach was instant pain relief. Gunner finished before me and sat back in the chair and watched me eat. When I finished, I looked up at him and smiled, and he smiled back,
“Come on let’s go back to bed” he said as he stood up holding out his hand for me. I looked at his outstretched hand and hesitated for a moment, I’m still not used to this kind of human contact. Everything up until this point in my life has been hurt and pain. But with Gunner it was loving and caring and gentle, it made my head spin. I took his hand and struggled to my feet. He then bent down and scooped me up into his arms, kissing me on the forehead. He just actually kissed me. I blushed bright red. He carried me bridal style to the kitchen door where he motioned for me to get the light. I hit the light switch and then we made our way up the stairs, I again got to see the beautiful chandelier. As we got to his room, he gently placed me down on the edge of the bed and went to the other side.
“I’d like to use the bathroom” I said standing up slowly. He grabbed my hand and started to walk with me. I stopped and looked up at him and smiled,
“I think I can manage on my own”
“Oh yeah, sorry” he laughed letting my hands go and sitting on the end of the bed. I walked in, hit the light and closed the door. I sat down on the toilet and looked around at the little bathroom. Two dark green towels hung on the hooks behind the door. The shower was pretty big and had a glass door, there was a mix of shampoos and body washes on the floor. Next to me was the basin with a big mirror over it. I finished my business and went to wash my hands. As I looked up to the mirror, I saw my face and my heart dropped.
The old cut on my forehead was almost healed, however, there was a new cut below that on my eyebrow. It was dark red with a little white strip over it, holding the skin closed. My entire right eye was purple, from the bridge of my nose to my eyelid and halfway down my cheek. My actual eye was bloodshot and slightly swollen. A cut on my bottom lip made it swollen and dark red, and another cut lay on my cheekbone. Poking out of the bandages around my neck were blistered burns. I pulled the bandage down a little to see more of what was under it. My skin is dark red with small raw looking splotches. Parts of the skin was curling back and peeling. I was monstrous. How has Gunner been able to look at me without vomiting. I lifted my shirt and inspected the skin under the bandages there too. The skin of my torso was now a ruby reddish colour, littered with dark purple patches. Dropping the hem of my shirt, I slumped down on the floor and hid my head in my hands. Sorrowful sobs echoed through the small bathroom. How could anyone be this cruel, why would Hank do this to me. My own father. He’s a monster. Parents are supposed to love and protect their children, aren’t they? How could he so callously inflict so much pain and torment onto his own child. A light knock on the door, followed by a cautious voice, broke my sobbing.
“Zee, are you alright?” Gunner asked softly,
“No” I whimpered,
“I’m hideous”.
