Chapter 10 Signing the Bill

Sadie, being the creditor, was fully aware of her role and didn't think there was anything wrong with the title. She promptly sent over a string of numbers. She said, "This is my bank account number. By midnight every day, send me half of the day's earnings." The thought of soon receiving money put Sadie in an incredibly good mood.

But, of course, someone had to ruin her good mood. Sadie's phone rang; it was Samuel calling. Hearing his voice reignited her anger, and she mercilessly berated him, venting all her grievances in one go.

"Stop pushing me! I don't have money to pay the bill. I don't want the job at VIC Group, okay?" she snarled, not caring about Samuel's possible reaction. "I won't let you have your way. Despicable! Shameless!"

After hanging up, Sadie still felt a bit stifled, but Micah gently placed a glass of wine in front of her. She was momentarily stunned but naturally took it, downing it in one gulp. It felt as if the burden had lightened after venting her anger.

"It's all your fault that I can't even find a job now. I finally found one, and I got framed by some bad guys." Sadie grumbled as she sipped her drink softly, feeling somewhat relieved. Her brows were slightly relaxed.

Micah asked, "Someone at VIC Group framed you?"

"There's nothing I can do. I'm just unlucky." Sadie downed the glass of wine. She didn't want to engage with him, but then she quickly asked, "By the way, can you sign the bill? It's about thirty thousand dollars."

Micah nodded. "Sure!"

Sadie had Micah sign the bill for the private room, which totaled thirty-three thousand eight hundred eighty-eight dollars. She felt like crying over the expense, but keeping her job was more important. No matter how proud she was, she had to think about the baby formula for her three kids.

"It'll be deducted from your compensation!" Sadie declared, smiling slightly, secretly pleased with how decisive she appeared in front of Micah.

With the bill temporarily settled, Sadie decided not to quit the job. She couldn't ignore her colleagues, so she went back to the private room with them, her face full of helplessness.

When her colleagues learned that she had really paid the bill, they all looked at her with sympathy. One colleague asked, "Did you really pay the bill? I heard it was over thirty thousand dollars."

"Yeah, I maxed out several of my credit cards. I'll have to save money from now on." Sadie said with a bitter smile, "But as long as you guys are happy!"

"Well..." Some colleagues hesitated and couldn't bear it, so they looked at Samuel.

"Sadie is too modest. This amount of money isn't even enough for her to buy a bag. Why would she use credit cards?" Samuel interrupted sharply, "But still, thank you. Next time, it's on me!"

Sadie was furious with Samuel, this shameless man, but she couldn't lose her temper for the sake of her job. She could only ignore him and usher her colleagues out.

Back home, Sadie couldn't calm down. She kept thinking about Micah and started texting him to ask about his earnings.

Sadie: [How's it going? How much have you made?]

She eagerly awaited a reply, but after a long wait, she still hadn't received one, and a sense of unease crept in.

Sadie muttered to herself, "Could he be planning to renege?" She couldn't help but feel suspicious, a wave of anxiety washing over her. Even though their previous transaction had been so meticulous, she couldn't avoid worrying about the future.

"It's okay. I'll wait a bit longer. If he didn't reply, I'll go find him in person tomorrow night!" Sadie reassured herself softly.

But the unease lingered. She gripped her phone, trying to send another message but unsure of what to say. Then, Sadie suddenly laughed, remembering how the heroines in TV dramas would cautiously text the guys they liked. However, her relationship with him was clearly that of a creditor and a debtor.

Micah, having received the message, glanced at it, casually turned off the screen, and placed the phone face down. A faint smile curved his lips. He thought, 'Sadie is so foolish, but in a lovable way.'

"Mr. Clemens, Panther has appeared!" Andrew Clemens reported as he entered. "We've already sent someone to monitor him and see who he meets secretly."

"Don't alert him!" Micah cautioned.

"Understood," Andrew answered.
